Chapter 615: Anubis
‘Hoh, I didn’t even need to look for it, huh?’ Shye inwardly thought with a smile as he read the appraisal window in front of him.

‘It’s fast!’ Shye thought to himself as his instincts took over, propelling him to leap backward as quickly as possible.
An enormous glaive, with a blade resembling a fan, then landed with a resounding boom in the spot where he had been, causing dust of clouds to billow and rocky debris to fly everywhere.
Shye wanted to at least see the darned Anubis’ skills.
However, it seemed that he wouldn’t even get the chance to do so as the monster targeted him and only him.
Moreover, it was incredibly fast, leaving him no option but to focus entirely on fighting.
‘Tch, I don’t even know how strong I am…’ Shye clicked his tongue as he sidestepped yet another attack from the Anubis.
It was then that he noticed something.
‘Hmm? Isn’t this the chance to show off I’ve been waiting for?’ He mused, temporarily opting to dodge continuously as he tried to study the Anubis’ attack patterns before going in to retaliate.
‘Was this creature sent by the old man to help me earn points?’
It was highly likely.
After all, only the old man would have the capability to infiltrate the WAA main headquarters and drop a damned (S) ranked creature from the sky out of nowhere.
Moreover, he had received a mandatory quest to slay an Anubis, a creature whose arrival was entirely unpredictable and highly improbable amid a densely populated city unless it was summoned personally.
With his deductions, Shye grew more confident.

The old man had always assigned him quests that were manageable if he pushed himself to the limit.
This suggested that Sanada likely knew his strength and skills would more or less be sufficient to defeat the creature after successfully receiving his crest.
‘Let’s go try it out then, nothing will change if I remain on the defensive. Also, once reinforcements arrive, I’ll lose this once-in-a-lifetime chance!’
After evading a net-like projectile composed of red slash marks, Shye charged forward, this time boldly confronting the four-meter-tall creature with the head of a black jackal and the body of a human head-on.
“Lord Hale, no need for reinforcements. I, Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn, shall take this monster down.” He declared heroically, eliciting mixed reactions from the onlookers.
People from other regions, unfamiliar with his abilities, scoffed at his claims of defeating the Anubis by himself, especially given his age.
It was well known that Anubises could hold their own against dragons for quite some time.
Although they would eventually be forced to retreat, dragons often found it quite difficult to kill an Anubis. This was why many outsiders doubted his claims.
Valenzians, however, was a different story.
They knew all too well how capable Shye was and how he could create miracles one after the other.
They wouldn’t be surprised at all if he could slay the Anubis on his own. In fact, some people, like Seira, were absolutely convinced that Shye could easily take down a dumb monster any day of the week.
Monster ranks? Irrelevant! Boss Shye was Boss Shye, and he would always be invincible.
Meanwhile, as Shye charged towards the Anubis, he felt the changes in his agility which had definitely increased by more than a hundred points, increasing his confidence up another notch.
‘Heh, with this, I could at least fight toe-to-toe against this beast.’
Soon, he entered the Anubis’s attack range, and its fan-shaped glaive instantly swung toward him, aiming to tear Shye apart.
He felt rather nervous about what he was about to do next. However, it had to be done; otherwise, it would be hard for him to fight effectively.
Shye doubted that he would be obliterated in a single head-on clash, anyway. He should at least be able to survive a single clash.
‘Power Slash! Lethal Edge! Boost! Boost! Boost!’
Slashing both greatswords diagonally upwards, Shye braced himself for impact.
The Anubis’ 800 points of strength was no joke. It would be a disaster if he was injured heavily simply because he held back.
*CLANG!*
A metallic clang echoed as the fan-shaped glaive collided with the dual greatswords, assaulting the ears of everyone inside the inauguration chamber and those watching on holographic television screens.
Soon after, their eyes widened as Shye was sent skidding back five meters, while the Anubis was pushed back about two and a half meters, a chip appearing on its glaive.
“What?! A draw?!”
“Shye Crowley…The first Valenzian hero…”
People from outside Valenzia were understandably shocked, as even the most skilled adamantite-ranked warrior-class adventurers from other regions would find it impossible to face an apex (S) ranked monster head-on and end the clash in a draw.
(S) ranked monsters were among the strongest, requiring even titled adventurers to work together with a few comrades to take one down.
A seasoned hero might be able to handle one alone, but a young, newly inaugurated hero?
They were initially skeptical, especially since Shye came from what was widely considered the weakest region.
Some even went so far as to belittle him, believing that a Valenzian hero would only be on par with a titled adventurer from other regions, or at best, the weakest among the seven heroes from different regions.
The earlier clash, however, served as a rude awakening for their hearts, minds, and souls.
Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn was a true, formidable hero, one who would not lose to those from other regions.
The young one could certainly hold a sizable chunk of the sky should it collapse.
