Chapter 616: The Valenzian Hero’s Might
‘Holy sh*t! Five hundred thousand points from just one clash?! Nice work, dastardly old man!’ Shye inwardly cheered, even giving some grudging praise to Sanada, whom he now despised almost as much as Dweezel.
If not for his clever idea of setting up a broadcast channel, he wouldn’t have been able to earn so much or increase his strength so quickly.
Now, however, he couldn’t squander points, as he might not earn any at all once he switched sides.
He had to save them for now and plan carefully when to use them.
…Now familiar with the Anubis’ strength and speed, Shye confidently charged forward once more.
Although he knew the Anubis was still stronger than him in terms of sheer raw power, he could at least match it in agility and dexterity.
Furthermore, the Anubis had somewhat below-average vitality and stamina for an (S) ranked monster, giving Shye a fair chance of inflicting severe damage if he used his trump cards wisely.
The battle was winnable, at the very least.
It wasn’t nearly as tough as Veidrax, though it was more nimble, more deft, and almost on par with the Void Dragon in terms of sheer strength.
However, the Anubis had one overwhelming advantage over Veidrax: its unwavering calm, indomitable morale, and unshakable heart.
It was impossible to piss it off and make it go berserk.
Still, Shye confidently parried the incoming glaive, spinning through the air and landing on the weapon’s massive shaft, which he used as a path to reach the head of the four-meter-tall monster.
‘Half-moon slash!’
Soon after, he slashed both greatswords as he sprinted forth, firing off two massive slash marks that formed an X.
It was easily countered, however, by a modest-sized golden ball that hummed with heavenly melodies.
As the luminous projectile made contact with Shye’s half-moon slash, it shattered the latter into particles and continued to travel along the weapon’s shaft until it exploded on the ground, sending clouds of dust billowing and debris flying everywhere.
Unfortunately, to the Anubis’ surprise, the human was nowhere to be found.
It was momentarily confused until it sensed danger from above.
There the little human was, harnessing mana to stay thirty meters in the air, unleashing fireballs, firebombs, glacial thorns, icicle spears, rock bullets, and all sorts of projectiles one after another from his elemental staffs.
It was a rain of elements, causing utter chaos inside the spacious inauguration chamber as winds howled, flames roared, the earth shook, and ice fragments shattered.
The havoc prompted Lord Hale and the other people inside the chamber to retreat to a safe area.
Yet, despite being bombarded with such a ferocious and horrifying barrage of elements, the Anubis stood firm, suffering only minor damage from all the basic mage spells Shye threw at it.
The next moment, it immediately retaliated by raising its left hand and manipulating space around Shye, causing his flight spell to deactivate.
‘Crap!’ He inwardly cursed as he fell, the Anubis waiting beneath to cleave him in half.
But of course, a hero—a pillar supporting an entire region, would never fall so easily.
Courageously facing the fall, Shye narrowed his eyes as he waited for the monster’s attack, feigning helplessness as gravity took the Anubis’ side.
It seemed as though he was destined for death, eliciting sneers of disdain from the onlookers from other regions—mostly high-ranked adventurers who believed they could’ve done better than the so-called Valenzian Hero in that specific moment where death loomed near.
To their surprise, the fan-shaped glaive slashed through nothing but air, as Shye used [Blink] at the perfect moment to both, dodge the attack and reposition himself at a prime spot to counterattack.
He then swiftly changed weapons to dual greatswords and slashed at the Anubis’ Achilles tendon, aiming to sever it and cause mobility problems for the ascended monster.
‘Power Slash!’

The Anubis was huge.
Thus, despite its rather high agility attribute, it failed to turn around in time, allowing Shye’s greatswords to pierce through the skin protecting the targeted tendon.
*SPURT!*
Blue blood which signified royals amongst monsters spilled and splattered across the ground as Adamance and Mithra’s blades sunk deeper and deeper into the Anubis’ flesh, eventually reaching the Achilles Tendon.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t strong enough to sever it, only managing to inflict slight damage before being forced to use [Swallow Step Lv.5] to narrowly dodge the incoming glaive.
The weapon’s impact made the ground rumble for a few moments before beams of light erupted from beneath Shye, forcing him to use another repositioning skill to evade.
Nevertheless, the damage he inflicted was enough to cause sharp pains that made the Anubis wince occasionally, disrupting its focus.
[Congratulations! You’ve earned 670,890 points!]
After yet another successful exchange that went his way, system points rained upon Shye, improving his mood which, in turn, allowed him to move calmer and smoother.
Meanwhile, the Anubis, despite doing its best to ignore the pain and stay focused, found its attention diverted occasionally, causing it to unknowingly slow down to cope with the pain.
The tide of the battle was gradually shifting in Shye’s favor.
For around two minutes, Shye was on the offensive, masterfully dodging the ascended monster’s strikes and skills as he valiantly advanced forth, the Valenzians cheering for his seemingly inevitable triumph.
However, little did everyone know: the Anubis was plotting something to catch Shye off-guard and kill him with a single blow.
Even he didn’t realize that as the monster fought defensively, it moved in a specific pattern with its enormous glaive carving lines—sometimes straight, sometimes curved—into the ground, gradually forming a kind of magic circle.
Soon, the two combatants clashed in the center of the crude circle, and, surprisingly, the Anubis was sent flying, causing Shye’s brows to rise in surprise and slight doubt.
However, ultimately, he decided to chase after the staggering monster to capitalize on the chance he created for himself.
At that moment, the magic circle suddenly lit up, summoning five indestructible angel-like entities.
Instead of harming Shye, they immobilized him by holding onto him tightly.
This gave the Anubis the perfect chance to slay Shye in one hit.
Gripping the shaft of its glaive with both hands, a golden aura enveloped the entire weapon, resonating with heavenly hymns as it moved toward Shye, without radiating any violent intent.
It even seemed as if the attack wouldn’t harm him at all. However, it was then that every hair on Shye’s body stood.
“Hoh? Might this be it for Valenzia’s Hero? Embarrassing…”
“Hahaha! Send in help! This hero clearly needs assistance!”
