Chapter 620: Extorting Resources
“So, what brings you here, young lad?” Sanada asked with curiosity.
While he could observe Shye from time to time, it was impossible for him to watch him all day, so a few of Shye’s actions would naturally slip past his notice.
Shye didn’t hesitate and directly stated his business. After all, even he was still unsatisfied with his own strength.
He had to begin his training soon.
Otherwise, there was a high chance he wouldn’t be able to protect those dear to him once the time came.
“I’m training a private unit of trustworthy individuals to assist me in battle. Provide me with training tonics and skill books. Even rare and uncommon ones will suffice. I need them to grow as quickly as possible.” Shye said, causing a frown to emerge on Sanada’s face.
“Lad, you haven’t told them about the organization yet, have you?”
“Of course, I’m not an idiot. How could I tell them when there’s still a rat lurking around?”
Sanada’s expression eased after hearing Shye’s reply. The old man wasn’t against Shye growing his little army.
However, he should do it cleverly, or else, Sanada would have to intervene.
“Training tonics and skill books, huh?” The old man sighed. ‘This young man sure knows how to extort people…’
“Fine. How many do you need?”
Reginald was naturally surprised to see the old man so easily persuaded. He had never been treated like this.
‘Hmm…I guess Crowley truly has a special part in the old man’s quest for revenge and redemption, huh?’
Shye didn’t hesitate and requested for five-hundred units each of physique enhancement tonics, mind enhancement tonics, and skill mastery tonics.
He also asked for thirty skill books—twenty uncommon ones and ten rare ones.
Naturally, he understood that obtaining [Unique]-tier skills and higher was challenging, so he didn’t push the old man too hard.
After all, even though the old man always tried to accommodate his requests, he was a former hero far stronger than him—at least for now.
He didn’t want to risk losing the small advantages he had gained by pressuring the baldy too much.
It turned out to be the correct course of action as Sanada already frowned upon seeing his requests.
Ultimately, the old man still agreed, partly because of the talents of the people he was nurturing.
Siegfried and the others’ talents were no joke, and Sanada was sure that with a little assistance, they would grow to become little monsters that could wreak havoc upon Dweezel’s ranks, thus compelling him to agree to Shye’s heavy demands.
Most of them already had the attitude, discipline, and mindset needed to become top-tier adventurers.
All they required was time and some assistance with training resources. It wasn’t a bad trade for Sanada. However, there was something he needed to know first.
“I’ll provide the resources, but I want to hear how you would recruit them to join us.”
It was only natural for him to ask. After all, training resources weren’t cheap, especially the high-quality ones Shye requested.
Sanada needed assurance that they would join his cause.
Otherwise, if Siegfried and the others joined the opposing side, he would not only have squandered a small portion of the resources that he and his organization had painstakingly secured, but he would also become the fool who trained the very forces that might one day destroy his own.
The old man had seen his fair share of talents, and could claim that he had seen almost all of them, and thus was sure that the Colzen folks, the young woman from Aslan, and his resilient friends from Balkrow were no joke.
It was simply that they were born in a land lacking high-grade resources and came from poor households, unlike the geniuses from other regions.

This is why they fell behind their peers.
However, in Valenzia, they still proved formidable talents amongst their peers despite the lack of opportunities.
…Unfortunately, Sanada could never have expected Shye’s answer to his question.
“Hmmph! That’s exactly what I want to ask you! How am I supposed to prove to them that you’re the one telling the truth and not Dweezel? I can’t just drag you in front of everyone I recruit and make you answer all my questions with a truth orb, can I?” Shye asked in return, seemingly “fuming” in frustration.
Naturally, the bald old man felt a sudden urge to rip out his nonexistent hair once more. The little brat had thrown his question right back at him.
Now, he was the one who had to come up with a solution.
‘This kid…’
Despite his annoyed exterior, Sanada was quite pleased.
It showed that Shye was taking their mission seriously and even taking initiative without needing instructions.
This was a very welcome form of assistance.
Dweezel Hawkins, despite being a warrior-type adventurer in the past, was no slouch when it came to intelligence and cunning.
Plus, the faction he’d carefully built over decades would have to compete against the WAA, the longest-standing organization in Adthiopia.
For there to be any chance of success, Sanada needed his subordinates to exceed expectations; and to achieve that, a subordinate had to have the initiative and courage to challenge him.
In Shye’s case, hate and anger certainly fueled his actions.
“Hmph. You little brat, throwing my question back at me… Fine. Show them this,” the old man grumbled as he pulled out an ancient recording crystal from his spatial bag.
He then handed it to Shye, who infused it with mana and watched the recording.
Upon realizing what the recording contained, Shye’s eyes widened in utter surprise, his heart racing in excitement.
“T-This is…the Yon Augenn hero party’s Black Dragon hunt from fifty years ago!” He exclaimed with a borderline insane smile.
He had always been eager to witness what happened during that hunt—a battle between a direct servant of a god and seven humans.
Despite his now rather short fuse due to the heavy burden in his heart, Shye was a passionate adventurer.
Such a glorious hunt against a deity…
It would naturally make any adventurer’s heart race.
