Chapter 630: Surrender
One of the two demons advanced ferociously while the other retreated with peerless footwork.
As a result, Shye wasn’t able to deal any true damage to Reginald.
However, this was fine for Shye, as he only needed to shrink the distance between them to open up two options for himself.
Sure enough, after relentlessly pressuring Reginald for ten seconds, Shye finally caught up, but before he could use one of his skills to prevent the cunning scout from escaping, a poisonous purple smoke screen suddenly emerged from the ground, cutting Shye’s line of vision.
His passive skill, [Intermediate Poison Resistance], was sufficient to neutralize the poison’s effects.
While it allowed Reginald to create some distance, it failed to achieve its main purpose of weakening Shye.
Reginald, oblivious to the poison’s failure, believed that as long as he continued fending off Shye’s attacks, his opportunity would eventually present itself.
‘That’s it, continue following me…’ He thought upon realizing that Shye was hot on his trail, a shadow of a smile on the corners of his mouth.
As the night deepened, it would only work to his advantage, as he was a close ally of the shadows.
Reginald immediately realized that despite his power-up, he still wasn’t a match to Shye head-on, thus wisely opting to prolong the fight instead.
He had never lost a spar or duel, and he had no intention of starting now.
While many saw fighting and winning through cunning as dishonorable, Reginald disagreed.
He believed there was nothing wrong with using any means necessary to prevail.
The mind, after all, was just as much a part of the body as Shye’s strong limbs and physique, and winning with intellect was just as valid as a brutish strike.
Besides, wasn’t outsmarting an opponent just another way to prove superiority?
There was no reason for him to envy Shye’s talents, as he had his strengths in the realm of psychological intellect—especially if he could defeat Shye right here and now.
Even now, he could effortlessly discern what Shye was planning, something that would have taken most others of the same class as him some time to do so.
The cat-and-mouse game continued for minutes and both their attribute-boosting skills finally timed out and went on cooldown.
As the chase went on, Reginald methodically retreated to the traps he set while dodging Shye’s aerial assault, attempting to cause all sorts of annoying problems for Shye.
Some traps unleashed Mana Nylons that restricted Shye’s movements, while others summoned four phantoms to attack him simultaneously.
A few traps also triggered poison daggers that shot toward Shye from all directions.
Nonetheless, nothing worked.
The poison daggers were effortlessly deflected, the phantoms couldn’t even pierce his skin, and the Mana Nylons were shredded as Shye simply ran through them.
‘Are you f*cking kidding me? What the hell is this?’ Reginald cursed upon seeing how easily Shye dealt with the traps he painstakingly set up while dodging lethal projectiles and explosions.
It was too darned unfair. How would he even employ hit-and-run tactics if he couldn’t even restrict Shye’s movement for a single second?
For the first time in his life, Reginald felt helpless.
‘So this was how all his previous opponents felt in the past, huh?’ He thought inwardly.
However, upon realizing that he was slightly wavering, Reginald took one deep breath to calm himself down.
It wasn’t over until it was over.
Initially, he believed that his cunning fighting style was the bane of all brute-strength type combatants, and that included Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn.

Hence, there was a small bit of arrogance in his heart when facing Shye.
Now, however, he had no choice but to acknowledge Shye’s immense skill and unrivaled potential, comparing him to an unstoppable storm that must be faced head-on to claim victory.
Shye embodied the saying, “In the face of absolute power, tricks are useless.”
Moreover, the guy was no brainless warrior, always analyzing the situation with a sound mind despite frustrating setbacks and employing the most efficient method to defeat his opponent.
In other words, they were the same.
It was just that Shye had options unavailable to him due to Shye’s monstrous strength and ridiculously tough physique.
Right now, Shye was just a better version of himself—a cunning little bastard who was also strong as hell.
‘Damn it!’ Reginald refused to believe so, but the facts were right before him.
He was the one unable to use his usual tactics on his opponents, as they were simply ineffective against the monstrous force of nature before him.
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the frustrated and slightly dejected Reginald, Shye was impressed at his performance.
After all, Shye was now certain that he had a significant attribute advantage over Reginald.
Yet, despite this, he still found it challenging to defeat him, which was a testament to Reginald’s combat prowess.
If Reginald could perform this well in a duel against a similarly intelligent opponent, Shye could only imagine how effortlessly he would handle monstrous creatures.
(S-) ranked monsters and even some (S) ranked ones would likely be played with to their demise by him.
Respect gradually grew in their hearts for one another, as they began to see the other as a reliable comrade for the battle against Dweezel, especially for Shye, as he once saw Reginald as a talented but lazy guy.
It seemed that he wasn’t merely lazing around as he had claimed; otherwise, he wouldn’t be so competent against someone who had already received their hero’s crest.
Unfortunately, despite the positive feelings that had developed, the spar still needed a definitive outcome, and Shye was determined not to lose.
Reginald, of course, felt the same way.
However, the odds were unfortunately stacked against him. He had but one chance to defeat Shye.
Only…
“Sigh, I surrender,” Reginald said, utterly confusing Shye.
“Why? Don’t you have a trump card or something?”
“I do, but it could only be used for killing. I don’t want to use it in a mere spar.”
“Hoh, let’s see it then. Don’t worry, I won’t die.”
