Chapter 633: Sable Demonite
Heroes, the pillars supporting the skies of an entire region.
In exchange for the trust and additional power provided to them by the WAA, heroes naturally have obligations they must accomplish now and then.
For Valenzia, since Shye was currently the only hero the region had, he had no choice but to complete mandatory missions every two months.
However, fortunately for Shye, the paperwork for the registration of a new hero would take months to process.
Moreover, this was the first time the Valenzia WAA Headquarters had to process one, so it took a bit longer than expected.
As a result, Shye was able to focus on hunting the monstrous creatures he needed, securing the crafting materials he had researched and sought after.
The first monster he targeted was the (S)-ranked Stygian Garuda, a darkness-element creature standing seven meters tall. It had a humanoid upper body and legs, sharp talons, an armored head, and pitch-black angel wings.
Since the backwater regions such as Valenzia and Krebori were somehow rich in darkness energy, high-ranked darkness element creatures were plentiful.
However, despite this, apex (S) ranked monstrous creatures like the Stygian Garuda were a rare sight.
Shye’s focus was on the metal bracers worn by the Stygian Garuda, crafted from a peak adamantite-tier ore known as Sable Demonite.
How the Stygian Garudas acquired this rare ore, found only in the deepest underground caves, and forged it into such intricate, high-quality bracers remained a mystery to all.
Naturally, although extremely rare, there were at least more than a hundred recorded hunts of Stygian Garudas in the past and the adventurers who defeated them tried using the bracers.
Unfortunately, the bracers only functioned as a subpar shield for adventurers, lacking the special bonuses they granted their original owners
As a result, blacksmiths typically smelted the bracers back into Sable Demonite to forge new adamantite-tier equipment imbued with bonus darkness-element attributes.
Once enchanted with peak-tier darkness gemstones, the resulting weapon would become a force of pure menace.
…After gathering information for a few days in the surrounding towns and villages near the Murky Mountains where the Stygian Garuda was last sighted, Shye finally began his arduous climb.
Fortunately, he was outside the adventurer zones, where only (A)-ranked monsters and above dared to roam, making his ascent to the peak of the rocky Murky Mountains relatively smooth.
Upon reaching the top, however, he was greeted by somber clouds and a howling blizzard that would easily end the lives of most low-ranked adventurers.
For Shye, it presented no issues other than a slight obstruction to his vision.
‘Ahh, crap, it’s so cold…’ He inwardly complained.
The biting cold and chilling murkiness exhausted him way faster than he expected. Hence, he decided to camp for a while and rest.
He left Nookie at the foot of the mountain to ensure that no high-ranked bandits or dastardly assassins could ruin his plans so it was only Zeth who was by his side.
However, wanting to treat this as a training experience, Shye commanded the duchess to temporarily transform into a black bracelet, forbidding her from assisting unless necessary.
In return, he promised her the creature’s core, while the corpse would go to Nookie.
The head armor, as the quest item, would be handed over to the guild, and the bracers would be his as he planned to use them to commission two peak adamantite-tier, darkness-element greatswords for himself from Meido.
After walking in the frosty somberness for an hour, Shye finally found a great, cozy camping spot: a small rocky cave.
He quickly set up traps in the surroundings that would notify him if a monstrous creature is nearby before returning to the cave and setting up the Small Camouflage Camp for extra safety measures, though, it would be useless in the face of the Stygian Garuda.
Nonetheless, it would provide enough protection to shield him from unnecessary trouble should any (A)-ranked or (S-) ranked monsters happen to be in the area and cross his path.
His short rest went smoothly as no monster or alarm traps disturbed his peaceful three-hour nap.
Upon waking up, he started a small campfire, roasted a generous piece of Void Elk hind-leg meat, and ate a hearty dinner before continuing on his journey to search for the Stygian Garuda last seen in the area.

It was usually unwise to hunt in the night as one would most likely end up being the prey instead.
However, for Shye who could see in the dark, there wouldn’t be any problems in terms of vision so there was no difference whether he hunted in the dark or not.
Additionally, Stygian Garudas are darkness-element creatures and are more active at night.
Thus, it would be better for him to search for them after the sun has set, as it would make the task somewhat easier.
Anubises were also a top-tier (S) ranked monster.
However, in terms of viciousness and attributes, Stygian Garudas were a step above.
Though rarely seen fighting dragons, they sometimes manage to wound and force even the weaker dragons to retreat.
They were extremely dangerous, bloodthirsty, and sinister creatures.
Nonetheless, they were prime targets for Shye, who aimed to both enhance his combat experience and acquire Sable Demonites, as many of his trump card skills were of the darkness attribute.
After searching for about two hours in the chilling darkness, jumping from rocky outcrop to rocky outcrop, Shye finally sensed a bloodthirsty gaze from behind him.
This caused his hair to stand on end and a chill to crawl down his spine.
Swiftly turning around, his eyes narrowed.
There it was—perched atop the highest rocky outcrop of the shadowy mountains, glaring at him with its pitch-black, sinister eyes and an eerie smile on its half-avian face, seated like a stone gargoyle.
Shye’s heart began to race, caught between excitement and wariness.
The aura it emitted was almost as strong as that of Veidrax. However, it was far more sinister and unnerving than that of the void dragon.
‘Stygian Garuda…show me the pinnacle of darkness then, sinister creature!’
