Shye knew he had little time to read the Stygian Garuda’s appraisal window.
Hence, as per usual, he focused on the important details, skipping over the unnecessary parts and those that would take too long to read and understand—particularly the Garuda’s skills.
He could’ve taken his time if he had been the one to find the monstrous creature first.
Unfortunately, the situation was reversed, so he had to make do with the limited information he could gather in a short span.
‘Tch, a thousand points in vitality, huh? This thing isn’t just strong, it’s tough… and it’s not stupid either,’ Shye thought to himself, realizing the Garuda was a formidable monster to slay.
The Stygian beast wasted no time, instantly lunging at Shye with terrifying speed, propelled by a single powerful flap of its black angelic wings.
‘Here it comes!’
Shye learned a lot of fine combat techniques from his battle with Reginald, and he planned to apply and practice them in this battle.
He could easily dodge the Garuda’s fierce attack with a wide sidestep.
However, he didn’t do so; instead, he tried to dodge it with pinpoint precision, as Reginald and Siegfried always did.
Shye merely shifted the position of his body and slightly stepped back, narrowly avoiding the ferocious punch that would instantly turn a mortal human into a meat paste.
‘Tch, still too wide.’ Shye clicked his tongue in dissatisfaction.
He still couldn’t do it as well as Regi did. However, it was a decent start as despite the slightly wide dodge, he could still land a light attack.
Shye quickly brandished Adamance at the creature’s horrifyingly huge arms, aiming to dismember it with the help of his trusty [Power Slash]

The Garuda instinctively tried to dodge but failed miserably as Shye’s greatsword sliced a moderately deep cut into its arm, successfully wounding it.
Unfortunately, such minimal damage was far from enough to take the stygian monster out, or even affect its movements.
He knew he’d have to do much more than that.
“Phew… at least I drew first blood,” Shye muttered, consoling himself as he quickly stepped back to create some distance.
‘Let’s try fighting patiently…’
After his spar with Reginald, Shye realized that his exceptionally high attributes for a human often made him rush in for the kill.
While this approach wasn’t always wrong, it couldn’t be applied to every situation.
He needed to relearn how to prolong a fight—a style he had mastered as a first-year student but had since forgotten.
‘Harrowing Aura!’
Shye activated the first semi-passive skill he had learned back in his student days, inflicting [Fear] stacks on the Garuda at a rate of three stacks every ten seconds, thanks to the skill now being level five.
With this, the stacks grew at a rate of eighteen stacks per minute.
Although Shye wasn’t certain if he could make use of the skill since it required at least 150 stacks to start affecting his opponent, there was no harm in activating it—it could only help.
Moments later, the menacing humanoid avian flapped its wings again, lunging forward and halting right in front of Shye, its fist cloaked in a sinister black aura that sent chills down his spine.
‘Tch, even this damned monster knows not to rush in recklessly,’ Shye thought, feeling a twinge of embarrassment.
The Garuda’s choice to stop in front of him and methodically close in demonstrated that it understood fighting like a frenzied beast all the time was suboptimal.
“Fine then, let’s fight!” Shye exclaimed, steeling his resolve.
The monster was significantly stronger than him, and he would likely endure more internal injuries if he confronted it head-on.
He needed to be as adaptable as water, as calm as a lake, as graceful as a swan, as agile as a hare, and at times, as fierce as a roaring avalanche.
Shye was ready to make it happen this time.
Armed with courage, focus as sharp as an arrow, and well-trained reflexes, Shye stood his ground.
He calmly analyzed the trajectory of each of the Stygian Garuda’s punches, aiming to parry or dodge them as effectively as possible.
There were a few times he was grazed by the aura.
However, he remained unperturbed, and with each blow, his precision grew sharper. He stayed patient and on the defensive, waiting for opportunities to strike back.
As the saying goes, “The faithful shall be rewarded,” and after three minutes of persistence, his opportunity finally arrived.
A bit frustrated, the Stygian Garuda’s swing veered too wide, providing Shye with an opportunity for a lethal counterattack after he skillfully ducked the blow.
This time, however, he didn’t charge recklessly. He knew that such a sinister monster would have insanely sharp survival instincts.
Thus, Shye decided to feign a diagonally upward slash with his greatswords, appearing to aim for a diagonal cut that would split the Garuda in two.
This caused the monster to activate its defensive skill, enveloping its entire body in a black, shiny sheen.
Only for a moment, though.
By delaying his true attack, Shye allowed the protective skill to time out, leaving the Stygian Garuda defenseless against Shye’s [Nightfall Reaper].
The blades of his greatswords glowed with an eerie red light as he reappeared beneath the sinister humanoid avian using [Dash Lv.5].
Naturally, with its sharp instincts and rich combat experience, the Stygian Garuda knew it f*cked up big time.
However, there was no hint of panic on its face. The Garuda was confident that if it could strike Shye first, there would be no need to defend.
The monster was prepared to endure a severe wound for the sake of victory!
“Hmph! Admirable resolve and combat strategy. Unfortunately, it’s all for nothing!”
The Stygian monster opened its beak, and a horrifying ball of darkness materialized, shooting silently toward Shye, as deadly as a viper.
‘Barrier of the Condemned!’
The black ball skill, despite its deadliness, was destined to be absorbed by the Impious Origin Belt’s barrier, allowing Shye to survive and maintain his lethal strike.
It was too late for the Stygian Garuda to dodge. Hence, a few milliseconds later…
*SPURT!*
Black blood gushed from the grievous wound as Shye’s greatswords nearly cleaved the monster in two, from its left shoulder down to its right waist.
Had it not been for the shadowy black ball momentarily obscuring his vision, the monster would have been slain on the spot.
Unfortunately, it managed to survive, though it was severely injured.
Shye couldn’t help but be astonished at what the Stygian Garuda did next.
Despite its fatal wounds, the monster’s eyes stayed fixed on him, gleaming with a hint of viciousness and ruthless bloodthirst.
Its next attack—a punch enveloped in the same black aura but now possessing a gravitational sucking effect— then hurtled toward him with terrifying speed and lethal precision.
If Shye hadn’t stayed focused, he would have been struck and turned into meat paste.
‘Blink!’
Today wasn’t the Stygian Garuda’s day, though, as Shye effortlessly dodged its attack, reappearing directly above the seven-meter-tall monster with an elemental staff in hand.
‘Ninth Devastation Ray!’
An incredibly sharp tri-colored ray erupted from his arcane weapon, piercing through the monster’s body, including its skull and brain.
The next moment…
*THUD!*
A loud thud echoed as the sinister monster’s enormous body fell to the ground, unmoving.
‘Well done, master.’
