Chapter 636: Darky and Murky
Three days passed in the blink of an eye as Shye, Zeth, and Nookie passed their time at a nearby expert adventurer zone around Kossin City.
Unfortunately, being an academy city, there were no Death Zones nearby.
As a result, despite the lack of challenge, the trio decided to hunt within the zone, allowing Nookie to replenish its (A)-ranked puppets and slowly increase Zeth’s strength through monster cores.
Now, the scrawny necrollin had a total of ten (A) ranked puppets, seven (S-) ranked ones, and six (S) ranked ones including the Stygian Garuda’s corpse, which was now its most cherished possession.
It was a decent increase in strength.
…As Shye hurried back to Kossin City, an excited smile spread across his face. He couldn’t wait to collect his commissioned weapons.
He was quite the sentimental guy.
Thus, a few hours earlier, he cherished his few final hunts with Adamance and Mithra, knowing they likely wouldn’t see much action after today.
These two weapons had served him well, helping him rise to prominence, but now it was time for them to retire.
While others might laugh at his actions, to Shye, his past weapons and armor sets were more than tools—they were comrades-in-arms.
Upon arriving at Kossin City, Shye quickly walked towards Meido’s renovated shop, no one daring to stop his actions of skipping the queue.
“Crowley! I’ve been waiting for you!” Meido exclaimed with a wide smile, just as happy to see him.
Judging by her reactions, it seemed the crafting process had gone very well—exceptionally well, in fact. As a result, Shye grew more excited as he gazed at the two wooden sword boxes in front of him.
He was an equipment enthusiast. An upgrade would naturally make him giddy like a child. After all, these weapons were his first peak-tier equipment.
He was naturally eager to try them out.
‘Ahh…a shame. If only the gemstones I wanted to enchant these twin greatswords with were easy to find…’ Shye mused with a hint of regret.
Still, he didn’t feel too bad.
There was a reason why he opted to have his greatswords crafted first: to have an easier time hunting for the other materials.
“Are they inside these sword boxes?” Shye asked, full of anticipation.
“Yes, go ahead and take a look,” Meido replied with a smile.
With Meido’s approval, Shye eagerly opened one of the boxes, revealing a massive bluish-black greatsword with an unexpectedly reddish edge.
Knowing that the Sable Demonite bracers contained no hint of red, he couldn’t help but ask.
Well, after praising the sword, of course.
“Holy crap! What a magnificent piece!” Shye exclaimed, his eyes sparkling like a child who had just received his favorite toy.
Quickly grabbing the sword, he admired it for a good while before finally asking:
“I don’t recall the Sable Demonites having any red elements. I’m puzzled by this stunning red edge. How did you achieve it?”
“I knew you’d ask,” Meido replied with a warm smile. “I took some creative liberties and coated the edges with a treasure my late grandfather—who was also my mentor—left me: a bloodstone.”
Shye subtly frowned at Meido’s explanation.
He knew it would be rude to voice his displeasure right away, especially since the young blacksmith had likely used her most precious item as a gesture of gratitude.
However, Shye had his plans for the gemstones he wanted to use to enchant his twin greatswords, so he didn’t particularly appreciate Meido going beyond his original request.

Still, he allowed her to explain further.
“Don’t worry, bloodstones serve only as enhancements, not enchantments. You can still choose a gemstone of your preference for the enchantment.”
“I see…what are the effects of a bloodstone?” Shye asked with curiosity, the slight anger in his heart dissipating into thin smoke.
“This particular bloodstone I used is a [Legendary]-tier crafting material that my grandfather received from one of his adamantite-ranked clients in the Weaven Region years ago. The armor he crafted saved the adventurer from certain death, and in return, he was rewarded with it,” Meido recounted before answering Shye’s question with the continuation of her words:
“A bloodstone, when used to coat a blade, absorbs any blood it comes into contact with, including that of high-ranked monsters,” Meido explained.
“Once absorbed, the bloodstone slightly increases the weapon’s weight and sharpness. The more monsters you slay with these blades, the stronger and more destructive they become. This allows the twin greatswords to grow in power alongside their master.”
Upon hearing the young blacksmith’s explanation, Shye’s heart raced wildly.
He even felt a twinge of guilt for having been slightly displeased earlier.
“M-Meido… isn’t this a bit much? I can’t accept such a valuable gift. Besides, isn’t this practically a family heirloom? Why use it for me?”
“Hmm? Gift? Who said it’s a gift? You must pay me a hundred thousand gold coins for this.”
“W-W-What? I-It’s not free? But I don’t have that much money!” Shye said, stupefied.
“Pfft… Hahaha! You should’ve seen the look on your face! Of course, it’s free. It’s my way of thanking you, after all. Plus, my grandfather told me to use it on a worthy adventurer before my time here is up, and I doubt I’ll ever meet a more worthy adventurer than you, o’ Sir Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn.” Meido replied playfully after a cute, hearty laugh.
“Phew… well, I guess it’s a relief that you’re joking. There’s no way I could ever pay off such a huge debt!” Shye said, his heart still racing with nervousness.
He valued the bloodstone so highly that he would have likely attempted to haggle or pay in installments, even if Meido wasn’t kidding and she had decided to use the bloodstone on her own accord, despite it not being included in the commission contract.
“Hahaha! I’m just kidding! Why don’t you give Darky and Murky a try? You’ll be back frequently over the next few months, right? Let me know how they perform.”
“Also, let’s check their initial sharpness rating with this device, and then measure it again after you’ve taken down a few monsters.”
