Chapter 639: Five and A Half Months (1)
Five and a half months flew by in the blink of an eye, as time tends to do when one is focused and fully immersed in their goals.
In the first month, Shye successfully met his goal of acquiring new twin greatswords along with the gemstones he wanted for their enchantment: a peak-grade Shade Onyx.
The gemstone would enable his greatswords to absorb and store dark elemental energy for combat, as long as he didn’t place them in the system’s inventory during his travels, which meant that from now on, he had to carry them on his back with the specialized sword straps he commissioned from Meido.
In addition, Darky and Murky now amplify the effectiveness of [Dark]-type skills by thirty percent—a significant boost, especially considering Shye’s attributes were nearly on par with (S) ranked monsters.
However, acquiring two pieces of Shade Onyx was no easy feat.
Shye had to max out his [Swim] skill, dive into the depths of a hauntingly silent, black-water lake, battle a massive (S) ranked Bakunawa lurking in the deepest parts, and locate the fabled small cave where water mysteriously couldn’t enter.
It took Shye four attempts to finally defeat the lake’s master, and he had to surface multiple times to catch his breath and consume Lazarus Pills, which granted him the ability to breathe underwater for two hours.
It was only then that he discovered the cave and the three pieces of [Legendary] rarity peak-tier Shade Onyxes.
He definitely did not have an easy time.
In the end, despite repeatedly risking his life, he secured what he needed, making it all well worth the effort.
During the second month, Shye completed his multi-element armor set, which required hunting a variety of true golems—putting the sharpness of his weapons to the ultimate test.
He defeated a Fire Golem, Ice Golem, Rock Golem, and various wind and lightning elementals to enchant his armor set, which was crafted from the scales of different Earth Dragons.
If Earth Dragons weren’t relatively weaker compared to other dragons, Shye might have needed Zeth’s assistance to simplify the process.
All the Earth Dragons had going for them was their immense strength and incredibly tough scales, which were tougher than those of most dragons.
Even so, without Darky and Murky, Shye wouldn’t have been able to inflict any damage on them, let alone kill a single one on his own.
The battles were far from easy, however, as Shye had to hit each scale precisely twice in the same spot to break it, which allowed him to penetrate their defenses and inflict minor wounds on each Earth Dragon he faced.
Despite being able to easily dodge their slow but cataclysmic attacks, Shye had to battle each Earth Dragon for over six hours straight before he could defeat one—demonstrating their unparalleled toughness in combat.
They were truly incarnates of resilience, which made their prime scales perfect for crafting his multi-element warrior armor set.
Naturally, Meido was thrilled to work with such high-quality materials.
She hadn’t even noticed that her fake love for money was gradually being overshadowed by her renewed passion for craftsmanship.
It turned out that she had merely grown tired of mediocre commission contracts.
What she truly desired was to create the finest weapons and armor sets using the best crafting materials, and earning money was merely a tool to alleviate her boredom.
Now, she often found herself eagerly anticipating Shye’s next commission, curious about the impressive crafting materials and enchantment gemstones he would bring her next.
Of course, Shye set out on several quests to test his new armor set, beginning with an (A) ranked quest that sparked considerable interest at the guild headquarters.
For that quest, he battled a formidable ember wyvern, bravely enduring all of its attacks, including its signature fireball, head-on.
He either blocked them with his arms or absorbed their impact with his chest plate.
Shye was a bit nervous in the beginning.
However, Meido and the finest armor set she had ever created didn’t disappoint.
The Ember Wyvern’s sharp talons did not affect his armor, and its tail swipe attack, which would have shattered every bone in his body before, now felt like a giant marshmallow hitting him.
As for the fireball attack, it was effortlessly neutralized by the Flameblight Ruby, which he had acquired from the (S) ranked Fire Golem and used to enchant his arm guards.

Shye was naturally happy about the Earth Dragon armor set’s performance, but his testing phase didn’t end there.
Next, he faced an (S-) ranked Moon Lioness, choosing to fight it at midnight when its power was at its peak.
The result was the same: his armor reigned supreme as none of the Lioness’ attacks ever worked.
Thus, he believed it was time for the armor to face its true test: battling (S) ranked monstrous creatures.
In the third and fourth months, Shye finally made up his mind to become a versatile mage, mastering multiple elements rather than specializing in just one.
To create the two elemental staff bases he needed, Shye hunted (S) ranked Elemental Jinns of various elements: Fire Jinns, Ice Jinns, Thunder Jinns, Earth Jinns, Wind Jinns, and the rare Light and Darkness Jinns.
Most of these Jinns, despite their (S) rank, were among the lower tier of (S) ranked monsters, so Shye had little trouble defeating them.
However, the Light Jinn proved to be a formidable opponent, as it neutralized his reliable [Nightfall Reaper] skill, making the battle particularly challenging.
Aside from that particular Jinn, Shye was able to acquire the elemental cores and bracers from the others with relative ease.
These materials were essential for crafting the two elemental staff bases he needed.
He naturally immediately brought the materials back to Meido, who finished the staff bases in merely two days.
However, while Meido could craft the bases, it was the renowned arcanist Valentina Kruger who transformed them into fully functional [Legendary] peak adamantite-tier elemental staffs.
If not for his status as Valenzia’s first hero and his impressive elemental staff bases, it would have been challenging for him to be selected by the legendary arcanist from the Yon Augenn Region for such a rare, once-in-a-lifetime commission.
