Chapter 646: Bountiful Winnings
“YOU DIRTY BASTARD! AND YOU CALL YOURSELF A HERO?!” Jeremiah shouted in fury, his anger sparked by the sight of Karsa kneeling in shock, her expression empty as she stared blankly at the ground.
After using three of her [Rare]-tier trump cards simultaneously, victory seemed almost certain.
In just a few more seconds or a minute at most, she would prevail, as the aura she radiated rivaled that of dragons.
Although her time was limited, it should’ve been more than enough to take out any human, as it would be impossible for their bodies to be as tough as those of monstrous creatures.
However, to her surprise, her most ferocious blow was absorbed by a black spherical aura that surrounded Shye.
No matter how hard she tried, the barrier just wouldn’t shatter.
From that, all she could remember was that after hearing a mighty draconic roar, she was disoriented; and before she knew it the appearance of the youngster in front of her suddenly turned into that of a demon.
Her body shook and trembled in fear preventing her from doing things she needed to to defend herself.
Still, she was at least able to activate [Stoic Lv.5].
Unfortunately, despite her efforts, the world suddenly spun around her.
She found herself staring at her own body, twitching lifelessly before it dissolved into mana particles. Moments later, she was reanimated beside the dueling stage—alive but utterly devastated.
Karsa could at least tell what happened.
She was beheaded and lost the duel, in front of hundreds of thousands of eyes she was humiliated.
This setback was the first for her and it was so devastating that it felt surreal.
Jeremiah, the most staunch among his followers, was the one who couldn’t accept the result the most.
He believed that his romantic interest could even fight toe-to-toe against those in the top five in the regional adventurer rankings.
As a result, his mind instinctively refused to accept that Shye had won fairly, instead attributing the victory to a talisman he secretly crushed to protect himself during the fight—an action that violated the rules they had agreed upon.
“WASN’T IT AGREED UPON THAT NO ONE COULD CRUSH ANY SORT OF DEFENSIVE TALISMANS DURING THE MATCH?!” Jeremiah exclaimed, stepping up to defend Karsa, who looked lost and lonely.
Meanwhile, as he shouted at the top of his lungs in utter rage, people cheered wildly, including Seira and the others.
In the onlookers’ unbiased eyes, Shye dominated the duel. Karsa was no match at all.
Naturally, to Karsa, Jeremiah, and their underlings, the match had seemed extremely close—a perception shaped by their own bias.
This is why Jeremiah behaved like a sore loser, convinced that Shye’s victory was due to secretly using a peak-grade defensive talisman to withstand Karsa’s attack—an attack nearly as powerful as those from the apex (S) ranked monsters.
To him, there was no way Shye could’ve defended against such an attack on his own.
“Huh? When did I use a talisman? I know such an embarrassing loss would be devastating but no need to lose your sanity on it, no?” Shye mocked with the most annoying face he could make.
At that moment, he looked less like a hero and more like a bully.
However, given his reputation for being ruthless toward anyone who tested his patience, most onlookers watched with a hint of schadenfreude, holding no ill will toward Shye.
Thanks to his broadcasting channel, people knew he wasn’t the type to pick fights without reason.
They figured it was likely Karsa’s side that started the trouble, and they were now merely paying the price for their arrogance.
Initially, the crowd’s opinions were divided.
After all, while Shye was the most talented adventurer Valenzia had ever seen, Karsa was also extremely talented herself, especially in duels.

Plus she was a veteran seven years older than Shye.
Hence, half the crowd believed that Shye would win while the other half believed Karsa to be superior.
However, upon looking back, none of those who had dared cross Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn ever got away with it with their face intact.
It was either their reputation or their literal face would suffer a massive hit—ones that were usually career-ending, sending shivers down everyone’s spine.
‘One does not simply mess with Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn’ was the thought that unanimously crossed their minds.
Even Karsa Bloodwinter, undefeated in duels and ranked tenth in the entire region, had met the same fate as the others—reduced to nothing more than a stepping stone for the rising young dragon, or rather, the now soaring draconic sovereign.
With his current skills, it would be unwise to call him a budding rookie, as he was already as strong if not stronger than those in the top ten of their region.
He was now a fully grown dragon—one that matured far earlier than others.
“DON’T PLAY DUMB WITH ME! I’M A VETERAN, THAT BARRIER YOU USED COULDN’T HAVE BEEN A WARRIOR SKILL!”
True, it wasn’t a warrior skill, but there was no rule against using an item skill, as it technically fell under the category of personal abilities.
The only restriction in place was against using defensive talismans.
“So? One thing is for sure, though, I didn’t use defensive talismans.” Shye retorted, the annoying grin on his face still present.
“LIAR! THEN WHAT WAS THAT TRANSLUCENT BLACK SPHERICAL BARRIER?!”
“An item skill, idiot. What, are you going to call that cheating? The rules are crystal clear: ‘No defensive talismans.’ Did I use a defensive talisman?”
Upon hearing Shye’s explanation, the cat got Jeremiah’s tongue. Indeed, there was no rule established against using item skills, and an item skill certainly isn’t a defensive talisman.
Karsa lost fair and square.
However, for the sake of his devastated dearest, he found it difficult to back down.
Unfortunately, Shye wasn’t going to give an ounce of respect to such a sore loser.
After sneering in disdain at Jeremiah, who was at a loss for words, he immediately approached the event moderator to claim his winnings: 140,000 gold coins, ten uncommon-tier skill books, three rare-tier skill books, and five hundred units each of three high-grade training tonics.
It was a huge win.
Shye then immediately turned around and headed towards his underlings, one of them talking crap at the top of her lungs.
“HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! WHAT DID I TELL YOU LOSERS?! MY BOSS HAS NEVER LOST AND NEVER WILL!” Seira shouted with a hearty laugh, leaning right into Shye’s recording crystal before continuing:
“TO ANYONE THINKING OF CHALLENGING MY BOSS, SHYE CROWLEY OF THE BLACK DAWN, YOU’RE ALL WELCOME TO TRY. HOWEVER, YOU BETTER GET YOUR TREASURES READY—’CAUSE YOU’RE GONNA LOSE THEM! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!”
