Chapter 654: The Great Escape
“F*CK!! F*CK!!!!!” Greyson cursed as the weight of his predicament began to settle in. “YOU! THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT! YOU’RE COMING TO HELL WITH ME!”
Shye was the only terrorist left in the city.
Hence, Greyson and the defenders immediately assumed that he sacrificed himself to salvage the terrorists’ failing operation.
“I’ll use the little time I have left in this world to inflict as much agony and anguish on you as possible…” the Hawkin Commander muttered in a chillingly cold voice.
He knew he was finished, and the only thing that could soothe his soul now was to slowly torture the one responsible, dragging the bastard down to hell with him.
There was no way the damned Hadean Varsa Commander could escape.
With over a hundred adamantite-level combatants at their disposal, capturing Shye should be a breeze.
Only, Greyson didn’t expect that the bastard in front of him, despite being cornered like a rat in a cage, still had the gall to infuriate him further.
“Heh, you talk about torturing me, but have you even caught me yet? You should stop deluding yourself before it gets you into even more trouble,” Shye taunted, his words creeping under the Hawkin Commander’s skin, further fueling his rage.
“YOU STILL DARE TALK?! MEN, CAPTURE THIS BASTARD!”
Naturally, the defenders were enraged by Shye’s arrogance, especially given his current situation, and were all the more eager to execute their commander’s orders.
To their surprise, Shye retreated to the farthest corner of the researchers’ room.
However, instead of adopting a fighting stance, he simply stood there, watching them with a playful gaze.
They were done with his games.
Hence, they all used their strongest skills in an attempt to incapacitate him.
“Careful, I don’t want the bastard dying yet.” Greyson reminded his men. “I shall torture him with my own hands!”
Blades and deadly projectiles made their way towards Shye, but instead of panicking, he merely laughed.
“Hahahaha! Still delusional, I see. Well then, see you around, dumb bastard.”
After delivering one final insult to enrage Greyson, Shye vanished into a cloud of thin smoke, leaving the defenders’ attacks to obliterate the corner of the researchers’ room which then created a massive hole in the top floor of Dweezel’s Stronghold Fifteen.
The clouds of dust and black smoke produced by the violent attacks of the defenders slowly cleared, revealing the area where Shye once stood.
However, contrary to their expectations, the Hadean Varsa Commander was nowhere to be found, leaving Greyson stupefied for a few moments.
Then, upon realizing what happened…
“GRAAAAAAARGHH!!”
Greyson roared like an enraged monstrous creature, brandishing his enormous two-handed mace to violently open up another huge hole in another part of the researchers’ room.
“HOW DID THAT BASTARD ESCAPE?! HEAVENS, WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME?! WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG?! I CAN’T EVEN PUNISH THE ONE WHO RUINED MY LIFE?!” He shouted to the skies as though demanding an explanation for his rotten fate.
The defenders didn’t know what happened either, but they knew what was gonna happen next.
All the defenders stationed at Stronghold Fifteen, including Commander Greyson and likely Honorary Vice Commander Fifteenth Hawkling, were bound to face punishment.
Their commander’s fate was practically sealed.
After all, not a single researcher had survived, and the Ice Dragon Emperor’s Heart had been stolen by those damned terrorists.

Inside a modest-sized house, a human silhouette materialized from blue mana particles.
Shye gazed at the familiar ceiling of his room.
“Phew…finally out of that damned hell hole…” He sighed in relief.
Despite his cocky exterior, being left alone in the middle of enemy territory was unnerving.
Being back home was truly just the thing he needed.
‘Good thing I always leave a recall point at home before I leave for an important mission…’
Greyson’s angry reaction suddenly popped up in his mind, washing away the remaining bits of unease in his heart.
Angering his opponents had always been very satisfying for Shye.
“Pfft…Hahaha! That bastard is probably destroying random stuff right now.” He chuckled, lying in his bed to rest shortly after.
He didn’t feel that he needed to return to the old man’s headquarters. Hence, he simply decided to rest and relax for the rest of the day.
Meanwhile, inside a Death Zone three hours away from Valenzia City, three youngsters panted in exhaustion.
In front of them was the corpse of an enormous black bull, its head separated from its body.
“Phew.” Shirley exhaled as she wiped the sweat off her forehead, turning to look at the two who helped her slay the monstrous creature. “Well done, Miss Kusanagi, Harry.”
“Likewise, Shirley.” The two answered in unison.
Despite being two people down due to the sudden appearance of a pair of lightning wyverns, the remaining three still managed to complete the (S-) ranked quest—a testament to their unbelievable growth.
Soon after, the three looked in the direction where Kiin and Siegfried ran off to separate the two lightning wyverns from their target monster, one of them—Lesurii—donning a slightly worried expression.
Siegfried and Kiin were strong.
With their current abilities, killing lightning wyverns should be difficult but not dangerous.
Luckily, they didn’t have to worry for long as just mere moments later, the shrubbery to their left rustled in which a human figure emerged.
“Kiin! How was it? Did you manage to kill the wyvern?” Harry asked.
“Yeah, but I need help harvesting its corpse…” Kiin replied, glancing at the dead bull behind the three. “Let’s harvest that thing first before harvesting the body of the lightning wyvern I just killed.”
“Good plan.”
The four immediately began butchering the bull’s corpse. They weren’t worried about Siegfried at all, except for Lesurii.
Still, they knew that if Kiin won his battle, then Siegfried should have no problems on his side.
It was just that he was a warrior so it would be a bit more difficult for him to take down a flying creature.
Their instincts were soon confirmed when the shrubbery rustled again, revealing a slightly bruised Siegfried.
As expected, Kiin was the first to tease the young warrior, making a joke about his appearance.
“Hahaha! Sieg, what happened? You look pathetic! Was the fall that bad?”
“Sigh… What more could have gone wrong? If only I could shoot that thing down like you, I’d have come back unscathed,” Siegfried replied, sounding a bit dejected.
“Hahahaha! No matter, you’re still handsome in someone’s eyes. Isn’t that right, Miss Lesurii?”
“Y-Yes, of course! Don’t worry, Sieg, you look as good as ever!” the young, innocent maiden reassured her beloved.
Hearing Lesurii’s words, Siegfried felt a faint blush rise to his cheeks, slightly embarrassed.
He was unaccustomed to such sentiments, so he chose to steer the conversation in a different direction.
“A-Anyway, let’s harvest the quest item from this Berserk Barbary Bull first…”
