Chapter 655: Like Nothing Happened
“YOU BASTARDS!!! WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOUR COMMANDER COVERED YOUR ESCAPE?!”
A booming, furious voice reverberated through the vast metallic room as a middle-aged man seized one of his subordinates by the collar, his eyes shifting to a translucent red.
“C-Commander Maverick, please calm down!” The underling nervously replied “It was our hidden strike force’s commander’s order. He told us to immediately retreat with our escape scrolls once we retrieve the target item.”
Upon hearing his underling’s explanation, Maverick ever-so-slightly managed to tone his anger down.
If it was Shye’s orders, then the hidden strike force elites truly had no choice but to obey, as it would be insubordination to not do so.
Still, Hadean Varsa had a protocol where a commander’s safety was to be prioritized at every mission.
This was a small part of why Maverick was enraged. However, a large part of it was simply because Shye was his son, and he couldn’t stand the fact that his son was left alone in enemy territory.
“Maverick, calm down.”
A raspy, aged voice echoed from behind as Sanada, disguised as a menacing old hermit with piercing purple eyes, stepped out from the void.
“W-We greet the Supreme One!” The terrorists knelt in submission, all except for Maverick, a Hadean Varsa Commander, who was exempt from the gesture.
“How can I calm down wh–”
“He’s alive.” The old man interrupted Maverick, speaking the words he most needed to hear.
Realizing the old man had no reason to lie, Maverick finally managed to relax, letting go of the underling he had grabbed by the collar the next moment.
“Hmph, fine. I’ll be returning to my quarters to train.” Maverick said, turning around to walk towards the direction of his quarters, which was also his training area.
He had no time to waste.
As newly appointed commanders, he and his wife couldn’t afford to slack off.
Being the weakest among the commanders, they needed to catch up, or they wouldn’t be able to support their son in the final battle against Dweezel.
Sanada told them Shye’s secret around two weeks ago, which naturally made them inwardly happy.
At first, they couldn’t understand how their son had become so strong so quickly, and like any concerned parents, they feared Shye might have been using illegal tonics.
Hence, learning about the system eased much of the unease in their hearts, though the source of the system’s rewards deeply unnerved them.
Even so, they chose to turn a blind eye.
Maverick and Alicia knew they had to if they wanted to achieve their goal of “saving the world.”
At times, they couldn’t help but question their choices.
But whenever they recalled how deep they were into this—how they had even unknowingly allowed their children to nearly starve when they were young—Maverick and Alicia knew there was no turning back, even if they wanted to.
They already sacrificed almost everything for their impulsive heroism.
The two of them had no life to return to beyond this, especially if they failed.
When everything is over, they intend to do whatever it takes to mend their broken family, no matter the cost. If it meant groveling before their children, they were ready to do so.
Unfortunately for the couple, despite their genuine intentions, Shye wasn’t a psychic and couldn’t see into their hearts and souls.
Only father time could heal his wounded little heart.
While he naturally wanted to find it within himself to forgive his parents, he simply wasn’t ready to do so yet.

…Time swiftly passed, and the next day’s morning sun rose over the horizon.
Its warm, golden rays illuminated Valenzia City, rousing a young man who had been sound asleep after enduring a distressing ordeal.
“Aahhh, what a nice rest!” Shye said to himself, in an extremely good mood as he stretched his aesthetically pleasing, muscular body.
He then went to the bathroom, brushed his teeth, took a quick bath, and put on his adventurer attire.
Afterward, he enjoyed a hearty, pre-made breakfast that he had ordered from his favorite seafood restaurant a few days earlier and stored in the system’s inventory before heading out.
A few minutes later, he arrived at the guild headquarters.
As the region’s only hero, he was inundated with greetings, which he naturally responded to with as much warmth and enthusiasm as he could.
He wasn’t an arrogant scumbag, except for when he was facing enemies.
Arriving at the division lounge, Shye immediately made his way toward Siegfried’s secretary’s office, checking the progress of everyone in his division while waiting for Shirley and Seira’s party to arrive.
Naturally, Shye was pleased about the progress of his division members’ careers.
What pleased him most, however, were their printed attributes.
Three months ago, he required them to visit the division’s partnered appraisal shop and get their attributes appraised and printed every two weeks.
Seeing that most of them were now as strong as an average mithril-ranked adventurer, with only a few lagging behind, Shye was naturally pleased.
These individuals would be part of his personal unit, though he knew not everyone would accept his proposal to join Hadean Varsa.
However, Shye naturally had a method for dealing with those who chose to opt-out, ensuring no harm would come to them.
Later that afternoon, Seira’s party arrived, followed by Shirley’s, who showed up about half an hour later.
As expected, they were able to complete their quests smoothly.
Since both parties had managed to hunt (S-) ranked creatures in just a day and a half, they captured most of their guildmates’ attention as within the guild, they were the only mithril-ranked parties to achieve such a feat.
Even the guild’s top-tier mithril-ranked members, who were just a quest or two away from becoming adamantite-ranked, needed at least two and a half days to take down an (S-) ranked creature.
This highlighted the true strength of Shye’s division.
Brimming with talented individuals, it was clear that the Flashy Ravens Rising would soon rank among the top ten divisions in Valenzia City.
Shye met them in his office, complimenting them on their excellent performance.
He fabricated a reason, claiming that he wanted to test their complacency when facing weaker opponents.
But in reality, it was merely a trap for the rat, who left Shye’s office as if nothing had happened.
Archers, especially top-tier ones, always had passive skills that would allow them to detect if someone was gazing at them with furious, violent, or murderous intent, so Shye didn’t dare gaze at Kiin for too long despite the boiling anger and feelings of betrayal swirling in his heart.
What he did, however, was summon Seira to his and Shirley’s house later that day.
It was time to hear their reports.
