Chapter 657: The Ultimate Underling Discovers the Truth
“B-Boss…I know I’m kind of slow but…Are you messing with me right now or…” Seira said, half-scared, half-skeptical.
Shye had a habit of messing with her, delivering outrageous stories with a straight face, and she used to fall for them every time, only to realize later her boss was just feeding her a bunch of nonsense.
Naturally, despite how slow she was, Seira would eventually learn.
This time, she didn’t dare believe Shye instantly.
“No, this time, I’m truly serious.”
Shye just gave his underling a brief introduction of what he was talking about before explaining to her in detail.
He explained to Seira that the world was at risk of drying up because Mana Dungeons were draining its mana, and the one behind it all was Dweezel Hawkins, the greatest hero in history.
Shye then revealed that he was a member of Hadean Varsa, the most notorious terrorist organization working to save the world from Dweezel’s evil hands.
It was only natural for anyone to struggle to believe such an absurd story, where the roles of the hero who once saved the world from the black dragon and the most infamous terrorist organization were completely reversed.
“P-Please explain further if you’re telling the truth…I’m having trouble understanding why you would join such a terrorist organization, boss…Are you certain they’re telling the truth? Miss Shirley, is this all true? If so, how long have you known?” Seira asked questions one after the other.
Judging by Shye and Shirley’s reactions, it seemed he was telling the truth.
This left her feeling both afraid and betrayed, as deep down, she still clung to the belief that Dweezel couldn’t possibly be so evil and that terrorist organizations were naturally bad—just as any parent would teach their child.
Part of her even suspected that Shye’s kindness—helping her grow stronger—was simply a tactic to recruit her into the group, fueling the sense of betrayal that weighed on her heart.
Still, her boss was her benefactor—the man who saved her mother and little brother.
She would at least hear them out.
This time, it was Shye who was inwardly shocked.
He expected that Seira would eventually lean toward believing him and the terrorist group.
It turned out to be a smart move to attempt recruiting her first, as the belief that terrorists were inherently evil and that Dweezel couldn’t possibly be so wicked seemed to be deeply ingrained in everyone’s mind.
If even Seira, whom he had helped so much, struggled to believe him and the cause he had pledged his loyalty to, how could he expect others to?
He needed to rethink his recruitment strategy, making it more convincing and effective.
Otherwise, only a small fraction of the four hundred-plus members in his division might agree to join, and even some of his closest friends might opt out.
If it came to that and they ended up facing each other on the battlefield one day, he might be forced to kill them—something he desperately wanted to avoid.
Luckily, he still had a chance. Seira’s situation was a great wake-up call.
“Calm down, Seira. We’ve known each other for a long time, right? You know I’m not some shady person, and I’m not lying. I’m actually one of Hadean Varsa’s undercover operatives. The reason I joined them is because they abducted me once, during my champion inauguration ceremony. But they didn’t kill me. Instead, they calmly explained everything and showed me undeniable evidence to prove their claims. Here, take a look at these two recording crystals.”
Of course, there was no reason for him to lie, but Shye needed to adjust his stories slightly to make them more effective for recruitment.
Otherwise, he would end up having to explain everything, including the system, just to get people to believe him.
As Seira infused her mana into the recording crystal, a modest-sized holographic screen appeared, her eyes almost popping out of their sockets upon seeing the contents of the crystal.
It was the legendary battle between the Yon Augenn Heroes of fifty years ago and the Black Dragon.
She didn’t expect her boss to suddenly whip out a full, high-definition recording of such a battle.
Though she wasn’t sure how this would serve as proof, for now, Seira found it difficult to focus on such matters as excitement coursed through her.

She was eager to watch and see what would unfold.
Like other kids of adventurers, she already saw how Dweezel sealed the monstrous deity, but unfortunately, her father wasn’t prominent or influential enough to secure a full recording.
This was her first time witnessing the entire battle.
The same was true for Shirley, who hadn’t seen the recording since Shye hadn’t needed to persuade her as much.
Two young and passionate adventurer beauties tuned in.
Naturally, like Shye and Reginald, they were captivated.
Dweezel’s heroic speech, the terrifying first strike from the Black Dragon that sent the two warriors crashing to the ground, the Voidweaver’s takeover and display of power, Dweezel’s failure, Elune’s sacrifice, the intense moments as the remaining six fought valiantly, and the grim future that loomed over the Yon Augenn Heroes.
The two beauties watched them all with racing hearts and a myriad of reactions.
After a few minutes, the end, which almost everyone had watched, played out.
However, Dweezel didn’t look so heroic in Seira’s eyes this time.
Although she was slow and slightly naive in terms of intellectual stuff, Seira was a keen observer, and she immediately noticed that Dweezel didn’t do much except rely on the sealing scroll at the end.
The Yon Augenn Heroes’ win was still epic in her eyes, but she was slightly disappointed with Dweezel.
She still couldn’t wrap her head around this battle being a solid piece of evidence, though, voicing out her doubts the next moment.
“Boss, the battle was great, but it didn’t prove anything about your claims being true…”
Naturally, Shye also knew it wasn’t, so he merely nodded at Seira before taking out another recording crystal.
“I know. However, that video was just the prerequisite for this one.”
Infusing his mana into the recordings, the familiar holographic screen once more appeared, this time showing a white wisp of the White Dragon of Creation’s divinity, which Shye introduced and explained to Seira.
Soon after, a black wisp appeared. Seira immediately realized that this was the Black Dragon of Destruction’s divinity.
After all, she saw loads of it in the previous recording.
The midget’s eyes narrowed as the two wisps converged atop a huge bump in the ground which looked like a half-finished dungeon entrance.
Of course, Shye explained that it was one, which Seira didn’t doubt one bit as it truly looked like the entrance of a budding mana dungeon.
A few more moments later, the said entrance crumbled into dust and stones as the converged white and black wisp showered upon it.
“T-This is…” She muttered in shock and disbelief.
With such evidence, it was impossible for Seira, no matter how slow she was, not to understand that the Black Dragon, or at least its divine essence, was necessary to stop mana dungeons from forming.
Additionally, it was common knowledge that the spawn rates of mana dungeons had surged dramatically over the past fifty years.
Again, regardless of how slow one was, it was hard not to connect the dots after watching the two recordings.
“B-Boss…”
