Chapter 670: Do You Know Why I Kept You Alive?
“Well done, you four! Frozen End, Radiant Sentinel, rest in the hospital rooms for a day. You’re free to do whatever you like for the next three days. Consider it a token of gratitude from the WAA Valenzia Branch for defeating one of the ten mythical creatures, eliminating a threat, and bringing glory to our region!”
Director Belford’s familiar old voice resounded throughout the luxurious office, bringing smiles to the faces of the titled adventurers—except for Frozen End.
She was not fond of breaks.
“Hmph, old man. I’ll take a day to rest since it’s my duty to be in peak condition before going out on missions. But three days? Isn’t that excessive? There are hundreds, if not thousands of threats lurking throughout the region, and you expect us to waste that time? I can’t accept this arrangement!” Frozen End protested, eliciting a chuckle from Midnight Fang and helpless shrugs from Radiant Sentinel and Piercing Zephyr.
They had expected her to complain.
However, she had a point—there were far too many threats for them to take three full days off.
One day of rest was more than enough.
“Sigh… Fine, do as you wish. I will give your handlers appropriate individual or duo missions. I doubt the main headquarters will assign you five to work together again anytime soon.” Director Belford sighed in resignation, looking at Midnight Fang the next moment. “By the way, where’s Crowley?”
“Oh, the lad? He said he’s going to investigate, or something, hahaha.” Midnight Fang laughed, “He’s probably after that wounded Wind Dragon, though, hahahaha!”
Had Shye heard Midnight Fang’s words, he would be scratching his head and blushing in embarrassment.
It seemed that it was too difficult to hide things from veterans.
“Oh? I hadn’t thought of that! Hahaha!” Piercing Zephyr joined in. “Well, let’s keep quiet about it. He at least deserves that injured Wind Dragon for himself after carrying the entire Phoenix hunting mission on his shoulders.”

Meanwhile, inside a hidden cave near the peak of the windswept mountain, one young human and one young dragon stared at each other.
The human wore a playful expression, while the dragon seethed with rage.
“What have you done to me, puny human? Are you meddling with Soul Arts?!” the Wind Dragon, Aeolus, roared in fury.
It could tolerate losing to the fiery bird, but being defeated by a human—especially through what it considered dishonorable means—was something it could never accept.
“Heh, Soul Arts? You must really be a young dragon if you’re that clueless,” Shye mocked, clearly irritated.
The accusation rubbed him the wrong way—it was as if the dragon was implying he only won by cheating.
Well, it wasn’t that he cheated, but he only capitalized on the dragon’s dumb decision to challenge the Phoenix one-on-one.
In fact, he would be the stupid one if he didn’t.
Why would one purposefully make things difficult for oneself when there’s an obviously easier way?
Upon hearing the human’s mocking retort, the flames of anger in the Wind Dragon’s heart intensified.
“You dare talk back to me, a dragon?! If I weren’t already drained from my battle with that fiery bird, how could you possibly hold this… s-s-superior position?! And you expect me to believe that a human as young as you could weaken me this much without using Soul Arts?! Absurd lies!” Aeolus raged, huffing and puffing as it squandered what little strength remained on its fury instead of conserving energy and devising a plan to turn the tide.
A dragon’s pride is truly both a blessing and a curse.
As a blessing, it enables the dragon to stay calm in a perilous, evenly-matched battle, as its innate pride would never allow it to accept defeat.
As a curse, however, it frequently hinders the dragon from making logical decisions, rendering its high intellect ineffective.
This time, unfortunately, it turned out to be the latter.
“Heh, what? Do you think there aren’t any humans capable of ripping you to shreds within minutes in a duel? Delusional! I can think of more than ten right now!” Shye sneered in disdain, further insulting Aeolus.
He wasn’t lying.

The heroes from other regions already numbered more than ten, and there were bound to be at least ten who could take down this young Wind Dragon in just minutes—especially the veteran heroes and those from the Yon Augenn Region.
Moreover, old man Sanada and that bastard Dweezel could likely take down Aeolus in just minutes, if not seconds.
Lastly, he could do the same.
However, since his two trump cards were on cooldown and he didn’t want to prolong the situation unnecessarily, Shye opted to drain the Wind Dragon’s mana and stamina instead, rendering it incapacitated.
This Wind Dragon was truly young and naive if it thought there were no capable humans based solely on the few weak ones it had encountered in the past.
“Lies! How could s–”
“Enough of that talk!” Shye exclaimed, rudely cutting off Aeolus’ words. “I don’t think you understand your current situation, Wind Dragon. I could’ve killed you without hearing your nonsense, but do you know why I didn’t?”
Upon hearing Shye’s words, a glimmer of reason returned to the massive dragon’s mind, making it realize that it was indeed at the mercy of a mere human.
It was in no position to look down on humans.
Not right now, at least.
With narrowed eyes, Aeolus decided to listen to the young human’s reason for keeping it alive.
Shye noticed that the Wind Dragon was now paying attention, prompting a wicked smile to spread across his face, which unnerved Aeolus just a bit.
“It’s because I want to try taming you!” Shye declared after a brief pause, causing the enormous dragon’s eyes to widen in disbelief.
After a few moments, however, Aeolus burst out laughing.
“Hahahahaha! You’d be better off killing me, you foolish human!” the Wind Dragon bellowed with laughter, completely dismissing Shye’s words as mere lies.
Not in the slightest did it believe him.
There had indeed been a few cases where special humans, born once in a million years, managed to tame a few of my kin. However, do you think you’re one of those humans?! Hahahaha! Delus—
“Hahahahaha! I am indeed one of those humans,” Shye interrupted with his own roar of laughter. “And you, Wind Dragon, will be one of the very few dragons in history to be tamed! Congratulations, you’ll make history!”
“[Tame]!”
