Chapter 676: Heroes’ Banquet
“Heroes’ Banquet?” Shye asked with curiosity.
“Yes,” Belford replied. “Have you heard of it before?”
“No, Lord Belford. Apologies.”
“No worries, it’s understandable. This has always been the case, with only those within the heroes’ circle and the WAA higher-ups knowing about it—for security reasons, you could say. With so many heroes gathered in one place, it would be dangerous if terrorist organizations discovered the location. That’s why the venue changes every time.” Belford explained, causing Shye to make a strange face for a moment that quickly vanished before the WAA Director could even see it.
“I see… so I have to attend this banquet. Is there anything specific I need to do there?” Shye asked, causing a rather troubled expression to appear on Belford’s face.
In the past, he never had any problems, as there was nothing for him to do except to attend and watch the heroes interact with one another.
This time, however, he had to attend the banquet with Shye.
As always, heroes were required to select ten of the most promising young talents to bring along.
These individuals would gain experience and spar with peers from other regions, supposedly fostering camaraderie among heroes while also preparing the next generation of potential heroes, though what actually transpired was far from the banquet’s ideal goal.
The other directors were aware of this as well, but it was beyond their control.
Some of the heroes themselves enjoyed watching the youngsters compete, even though it often led to resentment, rivalries, and lingering bad blood afterward.
What could they do?
This tradition began long before the oldest of the current directors were even born and has since become deeply ingrained.
As a result, Belford had no choice but to manage the situation for the first time, even though it meant his beloved region might once again face bullying and humiliation.
The white-haired director wasn’t too nervous about Shye, as the young hero would probably be able to hold his own, especially against similar-aged heroes.
The problem was the ten youngsters.
Belford had a few in mind, though he wasn’t sure if those guys could even put up decent performances against the youth companions from the eighth-ranked region and above.
They might not even necessarily win against those from Krebori.
Should the ten youngsters not even score a win, then it would be a disaster. This matter was what troubled Director Belford.
In the end, he decided to consult Shye, hoping he would know a few who could at least score a win against the Ninth-ranked Krebori.
If Valenzia could secure at least three wins, Belford would be able to breathe a sigh of relief and congratulate himself and his young talents for their decent first-time performance.
“Well, the meet’s main goal is for the directors to report the achievements of each hero in their region, which I did not have to do in the past, but this time, I would have to, but I’m happy about it, thanks to you.” The old director said with a smile, pausing for a while before continuing.
“However, heroes from other regions might challenge you to a spar, so you need to look out for yourself. I’ll help you with whatever I can, but I’m confident you’ll be able to hold your own, so that’s not my concern. What worries me is that we also need to bring ten young talents, and the heroes from other regions will be doing the same. I’m sure you already know what will happen between those youngsters…”
Upon hearing Director Belford’s words, Shye smiled, flabbergasting the old director.
“Hohoh, is there an age limit? And can we place bets on who will win the spars? It seems a bit dull and pointless to bring them if they won’t gain anything from it…” Shye said, further sending waves of bewilderment to the director’s old heart.
Lord Belford already witnessed Shye’s enormous appetite for benefits back when he and his champion party were on a mana dungeon-clearing mission.
Hence, he already knew that the young lad was planning to make the wallets of those from other regions bleed, regardless of whether they were heroes or not.
However, he wasn’t sure if the young man would succeed.
After all, the heroes were all peak existences of their regions, and none of them were stupid.
It would be difficult for Shye to outsmart and extort benefits from them.

In Belford’s opinion, there might even be a chance that Shye would be extorted dry instead, which made his old heart race with anxiety, causing him to pray to various gods and goddesses to guide the decisions of the greedy young hero.
He couldn’t lose face for Valenzia, especially since he was the only one holding the entire region’s newfound reputation.
“A-Anyone under the age of twenty-eight is allowed. A-As for the bets… well, there’s no rule against it, and it has certainly happened multiple times between young talents from rival regions like Chellionne and Fanfir, Deltra and Yon Augenn, and many others…” Belford replied stutteringly, knowing full well what Shye was planning.
“I see, I see! Hahaha! Can I choose which ten youngsters our region will bring to the banquet?” Shye asked with a beaming smile, evidently excited about the Heroes’ Banquet.
“Y-Yeah, of course, it’s the heroes who ultimately decide whom to bring, and since you’re the only one from our region, you can choose all ten.”
Belford’s words filled Shye’s heart with pure joy, as this ensured that Shirley and the others could participate, giving them the chance to make names for themselves and earn rewards through bets.
“Thank you, Lord Belford! I shall send you the list later. When will this event take place again?”
“It will take place three weeks from now, following the inauguration of three new young heroes from the regions of Hakk’Shatta, Deltra, and Yon Augenn. Additionally, keep in mind that these heroes are around your age, so they might challenge you after receiving their hero crests.” Belford said this hoping to instill a sense of caution in Shye’s heart, as the old director believed he was taking things a bit too lightly.
Unfortunately, nothing he said seemed to matter to the ashen-haired young hero.
“Hahahaha! Worry not, Lord Belford. Leave things to me and enjoy the show!”
