Chapter 704: A Formal Introduction
With both competitors prepared, Moderator Scarlet swiftly raised her right arm, signaling the start of the match.
“Begin!” she declared.
Contrary to everyone’s expectations, neither competitor moved in the first few seconds.
“Oh? Miss Shirley, you’re not attacking?” Aziel asked, resting his tachi on his right shoulder.
Unfortunately for him, Shirley had no interest in conversation.
She silently assumed her fighting stance, approaching as she always did—maintaining a basic posture while stalking her opponent slowly, like a predator on the hunt.
The onlookers reacted in various ways.
The Valenzians wore mysteriously confident smiles, while the elitists struggled to hide their disdain, wary of angering Aziel if they mocked the woman they assumed would soon be his.
In their minds, it was only a matter of time before Shirley became Aziel’s.
After all, the young Yon Augennian warrior was one of the world’s most exceptional young men, and they believed no woman could truly reject him.
To them, Shirley Locke was simply playing hard to get.
Of course, if Shye knew what those fools were thinking, he would’ve laughed in utter disdain and felt the urge to show them all that Shirley was already his.
Aziel was truly quite fortunate that Shye was allowing this clown show to continue, possibly due to the twisted hobby he developed of humiliating arrogant bastards.
As for Aziel, he found Shirley’s cautious movements rather endearing, interpreting her slow advance as a sign that she was genuinely afraid of him but still doing her best to make the fight interesting.
‘Heh, you talk tough, but you’re trying so hard to win me over. I’m starting to like you more and more, Shirley Locke of Valenzia. Not only are you beautiful, but you’re also smart. Who would’ve thought a hidden gem like you could come from such a backwater region?’ he mused, walking confidently towards Shirley without even assuming a fighting stance.
At first, he had been cautious, thinking the beautiful young woman before him, like the other Valenzians, might prove to be a formidable opponent.
However, seeing her use the most basic and common fighting stance, combined with his own delusions, Aziel concluded that she was likely just acting tough.
She might have some skill, but she couldn’t possibly be as skilled as him, or so he believed.
Unfortunately for Aziel, his carelessness proved to be one of his biggest mistakes in the match.
As soon as she was within striking distance, Shirley suddenly lunged forward with a speed that caught everyone off guard—everyone except the Valenzians, with the exception of Belford.
She then swung her sword vertically downward—the most basic of opening strikes.
‘Hm?!’
Aziel was caught off-guard.
However, his reputation wasn’t for naught.
Although caught unprepared, the young Yon Augennian was still able to raise his tachi horizontally to defend himself, even if the block was somewhat clumsy.
Only, he didn’t expect that such a block would be insufficient against his current opponent.
*CLANG!*
The blunted katana and tachi clashed, producing an ear-piercing metallic sound.
In the next moment, the onlookers’ eyes nearly bulged from their sockets in sheer astonishment and disbelief.
Aziel’s tachi hit his own face!

Naturally, this indicated that his current strength attribute couldn’t grant him the luxury of a clumsy block against Shirley.
As a result, the young Yon Augennian’s head jerked backward, causing him to lose his balance and fall awkwardly on his butt, struggling to make sense of what happened.
Witnessing this, Siegfried smiled.
He understood just how relentless and persistent Shirley could be, having sparred with her more than anyone else.
This was why he knew it would take considerable effort for Aziel to recover from his current disadvantage.
It was a significant blunder on the young Yon Augennian’s part—one whose repercussions he did not fully grasp.
Nonetheless, Aziel realized that sitting on the ground wasn’t a favorable position, so he quickly attempted to get back on his feet.
Unfortunately, before he could do so, Shirley’s right foot was already right in front of him.
“MMPH!”
The muffled sound of a groan echoed through the grand halls of Chateau Manor as the young, female Valenzian warrior’s kick connected squarely with his face, followed by the clanging of Aziel’s armor as he rolled helplessly on the ground, his nose bleeding profusely.
The young Yon Augennian felt extremely dizzy.
However, he was still able to think clearly and didn’t hesitate to use one of his trump cards to escape his precarious situation.
Aziel now understood that he was in trouble.
*FWOOSH!*
A blue, roaring aura suddenly burst forth from the Yon Augennian youth leader, creating shockwaves that pushed the charging Shirley back by about fifteen meters, halting her relentless assault.
The blood from Aziel’s nose started to evaporate, revealing only the visible bruises he had incurred from the impact of both his tachi and opponent’s right foot hitting his face.
“Hoh, so you’re playing the pig to catch the tiger, are you, Miss Shirley?” the Yon Augennian said, a hint of fury in his voice.
Sure, he might have liked Shirley, but he wouldn’t tolerate her hitting his face after what he perceived as her pretending to be a pig to outsmart him.
In reality, however, no such thing happened, as Shirley simply minded her own business and fought the way she always did.
It was clearly Aziel’s overconfidence that made him suffer, not his opponent’s “scheming mind”.
Naturally, upon hearing her Yon Augennian opponent’s words, Shirley’s brows furrowed.
She struggled to understand why Aziel was accusing her of pretending to be weak, as she had never done so—at least not in this match.
Unfortunately, the Yon Augennian youth leader spoke again before she could answer.
“Fine then, no more mister nice guy for you, Shirley Locke.”
As a blue rune appeared on Aziel’s forehead, he suddenly vanished, reappearing next to Shirley an instant later with his tachi raised, ready to strike diagonally.
Even Orca and the youth leaders from other regions felt a chill run through them at the Yon Augennian youth leader’s terrifyingly swift and silent attack.
However, before their hearts could fully recover from the shock, something else occurred that left their mouths agape in utter disbelief.
*CLANG!*
What was supposed to be the sound of a tachi hitting a beautiful woman’s neck was replaced by an ear-rending noise of blunt metal clashing against another blunt metal.
Shirley Locke had successfully defended against Aziel Adramelech’s terrifying attack—remarkably so, as she stood her ground without being knocked back, a competitive smirk playing on her lips.
Soon after, an ever-familiar irritating voice resounded across the grand halls of the Chateau Manor.
“HAHAHAHAHA! Delusional Aziel Adrameowhatever of Yon Augenn, let me introduce you to Shirley Locke of Valenzia, the one and only woman worthy of standing by Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn’s side.”
