Chapter 722: Among Us
“Everyone,” Dweezel said, “I sincerely apologize and feel ashamed for not fully attending the event. As you all know, I’m not as strong as I once was, and I’m certain that the leader of the Hadean Varsa terrorists, the former Voidweaver Sanada Eiichiro, will always be after me and my life. As arrogant as it may sound, I am a pillar of humanity, and I cannot allow myself to fall—at least not until a majority of the threats have been resolved.”
Upon hearing Dweezel’s words, the expressions of the heroes softened.
The Golden Sun Hero truly had a special place in everyone’s hearts.
“The WAA has guided us for millennia, and it’s no exaggeration to say they have been instrumental in shaping the world for humanity. The world leaders are human like us; they make mistakes too. I hope we can continue to trust one another and collaborate, especially during these trying times. It’s essential for everyone to unite if we are to have any hope of achieving lasting peace,” Dweezel continued.
However, the next moment, the retired hero’s expression turned icy.
Then, words emerged from his mouth that no one could have anticipated.
“That being said, the first step toward achieving such a monumental goal is to eliminate any moles. It’s disheartening, but… there is a traitor among us. Moreover, the traitor is most definitely a hero.”
Everyone’s eyes widened upon hearing the retired hero’s words.
Dweezel was implying that the reason the terrorists managed to attack wasn’t due to the live broadcast!
Naturally, Shye’s heart began racing wildly, though he immediately tried to calm it down the best he could the next instant.
He had prepared a recall point, but he still had to draw a recall circle for him to escape should things go sour.
‘Calm down, Shye… they’re just speculating… you haven’t been found out yet…’ Shye thought to himself, taking a quiet, deep breath. ‘I could still use an emergency escape talisman, but if I go that route, I’d be hunted like a deer in Valenzia City…’

He immediately began thinking of escape options.
“A traitor? Sir Dweezel, with all due respect, every hero has undergone meticulous background checks for weeks, if not months. How could there possibly be a traitor among us? Are you certain it didn’t come from the live broadcast? For experienced geographers, and with a bit of assistance from some mana-powered devices, pinpointing the location of the grand hall isn’t too difficult. I’m fairly certain that’s where the breach occurred…” Chellione Region’s mage hero questioned.
Most of the veteran heroes in the venue had the same thoughts, so they were glad that someone was courageous enough to voice it out to Dweezel Hawkins.
“Hmm, yes, I’m sure the terrorists could’ve pinpointed the location of the venue just from that,” Dweezel confirmed, further confusing the heroes.
“However, did you notice how well-prepared they were? They managed to coordinate with one another and brought numerous devices that assisted them in their attack. Furthermore, they even prepared reliable escape methods for their elites. It would be impossible for them to be that ready if they had only just learned about the location. No… I’m convinced that someone here is connected to a terrorist group and informed them, likely hours in advance.”
Upon hearing the retired Golden Sun Hero’s explanation, realization dawned upon everyone in the venue.
Naturally, they frowned, a few even gnashing their teeth and clenching their fists in fury.
Their long-time comrades and youth representatives were slaughtered because of the damned mole!
“I understand now, Sir Dweezel. But how can you be certain the mole is a hero and not a youth representative?”
“I don’t get that part either, Sir Dweezel. Could you clarify?”
Of course, Dweezel was more than willing to explain.
“That’s because the youth representatives weren’t given the location of the banquet. Only the heroes knew,” the retired Golden Sun Hero explained.
“But what if the heroes told their youth representatives where the banquet was?” A Fanfirian hero chimed in.
“Hmm, possible, but very unlikely. I’m confident that all of you received clear instructions not to share the location with anyone, though you may not have realized your representatives were left in the dark.” Dweezel patiently explained.
The heroes promptly questioned the remaining representatives at the venue, asking if they had been informed of the banquet’s location.
After confirming that the representatives truly hadn’t been told in advance, the veteran heroes frowned.
The mole was, as Dweezel had said, one of the heroes.

One of the sharper heroes suddenly had a flash of realization and spoke quickly, urgency in their voice:
“Sir Dweezel, could the traitor be one of the young heroes? The banquet has occurred regularly, and the attendees have been mostly the same—except for this year. Now we have Albus Verona of the Poison Cloud and the four newly inaugurated young heroes.” A mage heroine from Weaven speculated.
“Very perceptive, Lady Diana Lunaria of the Silver Moon. The traitor is indeed one of the five youngsters you just mentioned,” Dweezel confirmed.
The Hawkin Guard vice-captain then activated a metal cube device to secure the entire area, blocking anyone from escaping with emergency escape talismans.
Dweezel’s words caused everyone to turn toward the four young heroes, as well as the relatively young Albus Verona of the Poison Cloud, their gazes icy cold.
They were eager to unmask the traitor.
At this moment, cold sweat ran down Shye’s back.
He couldn’t believe that, despite all the convincing acting he’d done earlier, he was now so close to being exposed.
He had long accepted the role of becoming a villain and facing most of the heroes on his own.
However, not right now.
He wasn’t ready yet.
On top of that, he was exhausted and surrounded; if his allegiance were revealed here, it would undoubtedly lead to his death.
‘Sh*t! Sh*t! This f*cking Dweezel…I swear I’ll ruin every last bit of your plan if I manage to survive today…’ Shye cursed inwardly.
A part of him couldn’t shake the feeling that he might meet his end today.
With the way things were unfolding, it seemed increasingly likely that he would be discovered.
To his surprise, just as the deliberation about which of the five youngest heroes might be the traitor began, the young Deltran heroine suddenly bolted at full speed, panic flashing in her eyes and her teeth clenched tightly.
Riding her elemental staff, Axelle Vespertine of the Scorching Luminosity suddenly bolted toward one of the grand hall’s ceiling-high glass windows, attempting to escape.
