Chapter 723: Unexpected Assistance
For the first time in his career, Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn looked the dumbest among everyone present.
He couldn’t grasp what was happening and stood there, dumbfounded, as the other heroes swiftly gave chase, intent on capturing Axelle.
“HEY! SHYE CROWLEY OF THE BLACK DAWN! WHAT ARE YOU DALLYING FOR? QUICK! HELP US CATCH THAT TRAITOROUS HEROINE!” Amir Dawson of the Growling Peak called out, bringing Shye back to his senses.
Naturally, the best course of action for him would be to at least pretend to pursue Axelle, even though he wasn’t sure if she belonged to the same organization as him.
Meanwhile, the young heroine looked desperate as she tried to escape.
Though evasion wasn’t her strong suit, she managed to hold her own, with only a few heroes able to keep up with her as she soared over the tall walls, exiting Deltra Region’s Gorvingale City.
Hailing from Deltra, Axelle was familiar with the city and had enough geographical knowledge to outmaneuver most heroes, who could only vent their frustration after losing sight of her.
The only ones able to follow her for more than twenty minutes were her comrades from Deltra and a few other heroes like Alexander Aphelion and Shye, who easily tracked her with Zeth’s assistance.
However, while Axelle flew through the air, the king-class familiar galloped on the ground.
‘Sh*t! Sh*t! I can’t be captured here! This can’t be where I fall!’ the young heroine thought, hearing a familiar voice behind her the next moment.
“Heh, Axelle Vespertine, so it turns out your mother’s so-called death was actually her joining a terrorist group, huh? That’s the only explanation for why you’d join too. After all, everyone knows how much you despise your father, hahahaha!” the Deltran Archer Hero mocked, surfing through the air using an enormous magic arrow.
“Shut up! Don’t even bring that filthy molester up in front of me! Besides, you’re in no position to talk when your wife left you for a terrorist leader! It’s obvious that your thing is small. Otherwise, why would she leave you, a hero, for a terrorist?” Axelle retorted sharply, not slowing down in the slightest.
“You little wench!!! I’ll destroy you like how I would destroy that bastard’s organization…” the Deltran archer hero raged, continuing to give chase with a scowl on his face.
The chase continued for another twenty minutes.
However, it soon became clear that everyone had underestimated Axelle’s mana pool.
Even Alexander Aphelion was forced to abandon the pursuit as he had run out of resources to keep going.
In the end, only Shye and two mage-class heroes managed to keep up until Axelle exhausted her mana, though Shye deliberately lagged behind to see what would happen to the cornered young heroine.
This would give him an alibi, claiming that his familiar had run out of stamina on the way and that he too had failed to catch up to Axelle, even though that wasn’t true.
The two mage-class heroes could then verify his alibi, confirming that he was indeed not present during the final confrontation with the young Deltran heroine.
However, he now needed to come up with a solution to help Axelle survive without revealing his presence before the young mage heroine fell.
Fortunately, his high intelligence and wisdom attributes never let him down, enabling him to come up with a solid solution in just seconds.
Summoning Zeth and his newly learned [Legendary]-tier skill, the Ravenous Doppelganger, Shye instructed his familiar and the Doppelganger to return to Gorvingale City, ensuring they passed by the resting heroes along the way.
He would then command the Ravenous Doppelganger to establish a recall point for him in a secluded area of Gorvingale City, allowing him to return instantly.
With this plan, no one would suspect that he had assisted Axelle’s escape, as numerous heroes would confirm having seen him return to the city.
‘Damn, this skill is insane! Truly a legendary-tier skill!’ Shye inwardly praised.
It was a skill quite similar to Dweezel’s light clone, though Shye was unaware that Dweezel’s version was merely an [Epic]-tier skill enhanced with soul arts.
His Ravenous Doppelganger, on the other hand, was inherently superior in quality.
Confident that his alibi would hold, Shye stepped out of the bushes as if he owned the place.
Naturally, the battling mages noticed his arrival, and a look of despair spread across Axelle’s face.
‘Why?! Why are the heavens abandoning me? Why is this bastard here?! How did he manage to track me up here?!’ the young heroine lamented inwardly, filled with frustration and despair.

On the other hand, the two mages—one from Chellione and the other from Yon Augenn—felt a surge of joy upon realizing that the mysterious young hero from Valenzia had arrived as their reinforcement.
They were certain that, given Axelle’s fierce and fearless resistance, they would likely sustain serious injuries before they could subdue her.
However, with the support of the young Valenzian hero, they believed they could easily overpower the traitorous Deltran heroine, especially since he appeared unexhausted despite the grueling chase that had even the Deltran Heroes struggling to keep up.
“SHYE CROWLEY OF THE BLACK DAWN, YOU BASTARD! HOW DARE YOU CALL YOURSELF A HERO WHEN YOU CAN’T EVEN TELL WHICH SIDE IS DESTROYING THE WORLD?! SHAME ON YOU, CLUELESS BASTARD! WHAT A WASTE OF TALENT!” the desperate Axelle shouted, convinced that her fate was sealed the moment the young Valenzian hero showed up.
Upon hearing her furious words, Shye was taken aback.
He wasn’t certain whether the other terrorist groups were aligned with Sanada and shared his “heroic” goals of saving the world.
However, he was sure that Hadean Varsa had such ambitions, leading him to wonder if Axelle might be one of his own.
Taking advantage of the momentary confusion, Shye swiftly unleashed one of his [Epic]-tier trump cards, the [Ninth Devastation Ray]—coincidentally, Axelle’s trump card as well—to eliminate the Yon Augennian mage hero, whom he perceived as the greater threat compared to the Chellionian.
“Puhaahk!” The Yon Augennian hero, his heart pierced, coughed up a mouthful of blood. “H…Have you lost your mind? Why did you attack…”
A moment of realization washed over him, but it was too late; he had already succumbed to oblivion’s grasp.
Naturally, Axelle was left speechless by the scene before her.
She hadn’t anticipated that Shye would go crazy and suddenly eliminate one of the two mage heroes.
The Chellionian was similarly taken aback, reacting a moment too late as a world of purple and black sword silhouettes surrounded them, engulfing all three.
He now found himself at Shye’s mercy, trapped in a realm where only swords reigned supreme.
