Chapter 725: A Grim News
As the vermillion rays of the setting sun warmed the world, a stunning black mare made her way past several tough, intelligent-looking individuals who sat cross-legged, apparently resting after an arduous task.
Atop the mare was an ashen-haired young man with an irked expression.
“Oi! Hahaha! Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn, why so angry? Did that traitor kill your mother or something? Chill out, brother. You’re a warrior. No one’s going to blame you for not catching that ex-heroine.”
“Heh, judging by how the kid’s acting, this must be his first failure.”
“Ooh, how frightening…”
The resting veterans slightly made fun of the Doppelganger, though none dared take things too far after witnessing Shye’s battle against Van Smolders of the Roaring Flame.
Naturally, Alexander Aphelion saw Zeth and the Doppelganger too, but the guy merely glanced at the duo before ignoring them the next moment.
If the true Shye saw what was happening, then a smile would grace his handsome face.
Everything was happening according to plan.
For now, all he could do was command the Ravenous Doppelganger and pinpoint its exact location.
He does not share its sight or hearing.
However, excited about the skill, he tried to research as much as possible about it and found out that as the skill levels up, he would be able to do such things, though he could only make do with what he had for now.
After galloping for about twenty more minutes, Zeth and the Doppelganger finally managed to arrive near the gates of Gorvingale City.
It was then that Shye realized a problem.
The guards would likely conduct an identity check on the Doppelganger, and while he could communicate through it, he wouldn’t be able to hear what the guard said, creating a barrier to their communication.
‘Tch…’ Shye clicked his tongue in annoyance, ordering the duo to instead look for a nearby secluded area behind trees or thick shrubbery outside the city.
Although it was somewhat risky, it shouldn’t pose much of a problem since he was nearly finished with his business with Axelle anyway.
“Well then, Axelle, take this hero back to headquarters and let the old man deal with him. Hopefully, he’ll join the cause.”
Nodding at Shye like a loyal subordinate, Axelle hoisted the unconscious Allen Frostwind of the Howling Blizzard over her shoulders, feeding him a narcotic pill that would keep him out for days.
However, he felt that it was a waste to simply allow Axelle to go like this.
“H-Hey, wait. Don’t go just yet,” Shye said, instinctively halting the beautiful young heroine. “I’m sure it would be hard for us to meet again. Did the organization give you a modified mana communicator?”
“Oh, right! Let’s exchange codes!”
After another minute, the former heroine walked away, tears streaming down her cheeks, her expression suddenly turning icy.
She was now a fugitive, but she vowed to return to society one day as a true heroine who saved the world.
Meanwhile, Shye simply watched her leave while checking the status of the recall circle, feeling a twinge of sympathy for Axelle.
However, he also realized that he would experience similar feelings in the future.
He had to prepare his heart.
After a few seconds, the former heroine disappeared over the horizon, prompting Shye to leave as well.
He decided to abandon the corpse of the Yon Augennian hero, allowing it to be discovered.
This would help him shift the blame onto Axelle, as she also possessed the [Ninth Devastation Ray] skill.

‘Recall!’
After using recall, Shye glanced around.
Zeth and the Doppelganger had done their job well, as the recall point was set up in a highly secluded area, hidden behind dense shrubbery.
In the next moment, he activated [Dark Merge], causing the Doppelganger to be drawn into his real body as if swallowed by a black hole.
“Let’s go, Zeth.”
‘Yes, master.’
Riding his stunning black mare, Shye entered Gorvingale City and made his way directly to the WAA office.
He had received a message from Director Belford informing him that everyone had relocated to the office for safety reasons.
A few minutes later, he arrived and entered the conference room, where a few heroes who had returned early were waiting.
Their expressions were grim, and their fists were clenched tightly.
“Ah, Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn, you’ve finally arrived. I’ve heard about what happened. Don’t worry—Allen Frostwind of the Howling Blizzard from Chellione and Pharell Flamewalker of the Thunder Cloud from Yon Augenn have reportedly engaged the former heroine of Scorching Luminosity. It’s only a matter of time before that traitor faces justice,” Belford said, approaching Shye in an attempt to calm the anger visible on his face.
Of course, Shye acted the part.
“Ah, is that so? That’s good,” he responded, his expression slightly less irritated. “Sigh, if only I’d learned a skill better suited for long pursuits…”
Belford was about to cheer him up again.
However, before the old director could do so, a WAA senior officer rushed towards the conference room, opening the door with a loud bang.
“S-Sir Hale! Bad news!” the officer shouted, grabbing everyone’s attention and sending the directors’ hearts racing. “W-We can’t get in touch with Sir Allen or Sir Pharell!”
“What?! There’s no way the two of them would’ve lost to an exhausted young heroine! Did you check the status of their crests?” Hale replied, visibly agitated.
The WAA had already lost a total of thirteen heroes.
They couldn’t afford to lose any more, especially Pharell, one of the chosen few who had risen above the competition in the fiercely competitive region of Yon Augenn.
Hale simply couldn’t imagine him losing to some upstart heroine from Deltra.
Unfortunately, imagination didn’t reflect reality, and the next WAA officer who entered shattered the head director’s hope that his staff had simply made an error.
“H-Head Director!! The Crest Room Administrator reports that Sir Pharell’s crest has vanished… t-the esteemed hero may have fallen in battle!”
At that moment, it felt as though the sky had fallen on Hale Eversong’s head.
There were plenty of hero candidates ready to step into the mage hero’s role.
However, they were all still young and wouldn’t be able to fully fill Pharell’s shoes for at least five years.
Thus, with a trembling voice, Hale issued orders.
“Heroes, you are temporarily dismissed. Please wait for your handlers to summon you; they will assign your next task. All directors, return to the main headquarters and bring your vice directors with you. We will conduct an emergency meeting.”
