Chapter 728: Well Played
A mystical sound resonated through the void prison as Kiin complied, letting a drop of his blood fall onto the peak-grade Orb of Truth.
It was the first time Shye had ever used such a costly item, one he had acquired from the organization’s black market for 10,000 gold coins.
Naturally, Shye never took his eyes off Kiin, scrutinizing even the slightest of his reactions to detect any signs of deceit.
Although he was hesitant to resort to such an extreme measure as soul-searching to uncover the truth from his blue-haired “close friend,” Shye understood the critical importance of identifying the true Fifteenth Hawkling.
After all, recruiting the wrong person into the organization could lead to catastrophic consequences.
Seeing the orb of truth turn purple, Shye looked Kiin in the eyes with an icy gaze, as though trying to peer through the depths of his very soul.
He then spoke, “So, Kiin Wujin, are you or are you not the Fifteenth Hawkling?”
To Shye’s surprise, the blue-haired archer responded without a moment’s pause, his answer swift and unwavering.
“No! I’m not the Fifteenth Hawkling! I don’t even know who that is!”
After Kiin answered, a five-meter-wide blue mana dome expanded from the peak-grade Orb of Truth, scanning the blood owner’s entire body for any anomalies, from his heartbeat to more subtle signs.
Witnessing this, Shye grew more confident that the peak-grade Orb of Truth wouldn’t fail him.
It was proving to be worth both its reputation and its hefty price.
Shortly after, the purple liquid inside the orb began to stir—a phenomenon Shye hadn’t encountered when using high-grade Orbs of Truth.
He dismissed it as the peak-grade orb simply working its magic, especially since he had never seen one in action before.
After three seconds, the orb finally turned blue, allowing all four youngsters inside the void prison to heave a sigh of relief.
Shye repeatedly reassured himself that he was prepared to hand his close friend over to the organization for merciless torture if Kiin turned out to be the Fifteenth Hawkling.
Hence, he felt a deep sense of relief that it wouldn’t come to that today, revealing that his young heart still struggled with the idea of taking the lives of his own friends—even if it was for the organization’s noble cause.
However, the next moment, overwhelming sadness coursed through him.
He realized what this meant: Siegfried Lionheart, his closest friend among the Colzen Seven, was Dweezel’s son and was fated to be his enemy.
They would inevitably stand on different sides of the battlefield.
Shirley felt the same, as Siegfried had been her regular sparring partner.
It took Shye about ten seconds to collect himself before he could turn back to face Kiin again.
Then, with a deep breath, he asked two more questions to the captured archer.
The same strange occurrence happened every time, with the purple liquid of the peak-grade orb of truth rumbling for three seconds before turning blue.
Unbeknownst to Shye, this wasn’t how a peak-grade Orb of Truth typically functioned, as it should’ve turned either blue or red almost immediately after the blood owner answered the question.
Had he been accompanied by a high-ranked arcanist, they would have easily recognized that something was wrong with the orb.
Unfortunately, he was in a void prison created by a terrorist leader, so how could there be a high-ranked arcanist in such a place?
Shye could only take Kiin’s answers as the truth since the orb always turned blue.
After three questions, the orb finally shattered, revealing that its peak-grade lie detection capabilities were limited to just three inquiries.
This made sense to him, as it was the first time he had seen an Orb of Truth scan the blood owner’s body for anomalies using a blue mana dome.

Shye took a deep breath before inserting the void key given to him by the old man into the void lock on the prison cell’s gate, unlocking it.
The next moment, the gate opened, freeing the distressed Kiin Wujin.
“Kiin… I sincerely apologize for doubting your words and for putting you in our organization’s void prison. As I promised, I will clarify what I meant when I said that Hadean Varsa is working to save the world. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.” Shye said as he sincerely bowed towards Kiin, asking for forgiveness.
He must’ve given his close friend quite the scare, so lowering his head in apology was the least he could do.
Kiin didn’t respond right away.
However, he also looked somewhat resentful toward the trio but opted to stay in the prison cell, turning away and seemingly collecting himself as he awaited Shye’s explanation.
Unbeknownst to Shye, a hint of a triumphant smile crept onto Kiin’s face.
Unfortunately, with the slippery bastard’s back turned, he couldn’t see the sign he had been waiting for for quite some time.
The subtle hint that Kiin was indeed Fifteenth Hawkling.
‘Crowley, Crowley, Crowley… Who would have thought a predicament could turn into a blessing? Truly, the gods and goddesses look after those who adhere to their teachings…’ Kiin mused inwardly, thrilled at having deceived his way out of the challenging situation. ‘I’m glad I managed to secure a Potion of False Truth developed by my father’s researchers recently. It certainly pays to be extremely cautious…’
Nonetheless, Kiin Hawkins was curious about why Shye, who had already reached the pinnacle of the adventurer world, would choose to join a terrorist organization and how such a notorious group could be working to “save the world.”
A few moments later, Shye began explaining everything to Kiin as he had done with Seira, prompting a range of reactions from him—at times questioning and doubtful, and at other times appearing enlightened as he seemed to connect a few dots.
In the end, his expression turned grim after watching all the recordings Shye had shown him, his heart conflicted.
He now believed that Hadean Varsa was indeed working to save the world.
However, he refused to believe that his ever-excellent father could have been so evil.
After all, despite being just one of many unofficial concubines and having been cast aside, his mother never spoke ill of his father, even praising his legendary accomplishments and encouraging him to aspire to be such a great man.
Her eyes were filled with nothing but longing, hoping that someday, Dweezel would give her even a small measure of his attention once more.
