Chapter 731: A Bad News and a Good News
“Sigh… so lil’ sis Lesurii left as well, huh?” Seira murmured, gazing toward the headquarters’ exit. “Why didn’t she and lil’ bro Siegfried wait for the WAA’s rewards before leaving? They more than deserved their share…”

“Hmm…that’s probably because Sieg’s not fond of such dramatic goodbyes…” Ian replied, looking in the same direction as Seira. “As for Lesurii…well…you know how much she likes to be with Sieg. Pfft! Though she would probably give him an earful for leaving her without a single word of notice, hahaha!”

Everyone had more or less anticipated this, so the last quest they undertook as a huge party of nine last week was like a farewell mission for her.

During her time on the Aslan Academy roster, Lesurii was one of the few genuinely likable individuals. Her bold spirit and endearing innocence made it easy for her to connect with everyone from Colzen.

She had become a close friend to Seira and the others, so her departure naturally saddened them.

Still, they all understood it was bound to happen, especially with her being completely smitten with Siegfried.

Shye, of course, didn’t try to stop her, knowing it would be impossible to do so and recruit her to Hadean Varsa anyway.

This decision, however, was rooted in the mistaken belief that Siegfried was Fifteenth Hawkling, which is why Shye had excluded Lesurii from his plans as soon as he confirmed Kiin wasn’t the mole.

“Alright then, shall we get back to work?” Ian said with a heavy sigh.

After a few minutes of somewhat lonely silence at their table in the guild lobby, everyone stood up and followed Ian to the quest board, hoping to select a new mission and make the most of the remaining week before their rewards arrived.

Unbeknownst to them, their farewell quest with Lesurii would be their farewell quest to a lot of their close friends and comrades.

Before they reached the quest board, Soaring Raven’s aide approached and summoned Wendy, Ian, and Shirley to the guild master’s office.

Shye and the others didn’t think much of the summons, opting instead to look for a suitable quest for their now smaller party of four adventurers each.

After about ten minutes of searching, they finally found two suitable quests.

However, since they still had to wait for the other three to complete registration, Shye and the others returned to their table in the guild lobby to wait.

Meanwhile, inside the guild master’s office…

“You three, to begin with, I want to congratulate you on your outstanding performance at the Heroes’ Banquet,” Soaring Raven said with a warm smile, offering the trio a slight bow. “The honorable director told me everything, and I must say I’m very proud. Please pass on my thanks to the others as well.”

Their performances and achievements had far surpassed his expectations from when he’d taken a gamble on them as young fledglings who could barely defend themselves against diamond-ranked adventurers.

The three young adventurers were, of course, deeply honored and returned the gesture with a respectful bow.

“We thank the guild master for your guidance,” they said in unison.

Nodding appreciatively with a wide smile on his face, Soaring Raven continued:

“It’s a bit unfortunate what happened with two of your friends and comrades, but it is what it is. Adventurers have always sought greener pastures. Let’s respect their choices and wish them well.”

Of course, although they were saddened by Siegfried and Lesurii’s sudden departure, Wendy and Ian naturally wished Siegfried well in their hearts.

They even vowed to visit the two in the future.

Shirley, on the other hand, wished only Lesurii well, as he now saw Siegfried as an enemy and felt conflicted about him.

“Now, let’s move on to why I summoned you three,” the guild master began, snapping the three out of their musings. “Do you guys want to hear the good news first, or the bad news?”

The trio looked and nodded at each other before Ian answered:

“We prefer to hear the bad news first, guild master.”

“Hahaha! Good choice!” Soaring Raven chuckled. “The bad news is that from now on, the three of you will be extremely busy, leaving you with less time for quests with your friends and other guild matters.”

Shirley and Ian were naturally confused.

On the other hand, Wendy, being a priestess with high intelligence and wisdom, had an inkling of what was happening, though she failed to imagine to what extent.

Seeing the confused expressions on the youngsters’ faces, the guild master’s smile grew wider.

“Now then, on to the good news,” Soaring Raven continued. “The WAA has granted each of you special awards in recognition of your exceptional talent and skill shown at the banquet.

“Ian Izanagi, the WAA would like to appoint you as a regional champion. Then, after a year of service, you’ll be promoted to the region’s scout hero candidate.”

“Shirley Locke and Wendy Primrose, both of you will be directly appointed as hero candidates for your respective roles and will undertake three special quests together. If you complete those quests…”

Soaring Raven paused dramatically, creating suspense for the two young women.

“You will both be named heroes of our region! You, Shirley Locke, will become a warrior hero like Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn, while Wendy Primrose will be designated as the region’s priestess hero.”

Upon hearing the guild master’s words, the hearts of the three youngsters raced wildly in excitement.

They were given a chance to reach the very pinnacle!

Shirley felt a pang of guilt in her heart, especially since she had already joined Hadean Varsa.

She knew that Shye would also attempt to recruit Wendy, who was likely to accept, having always been a staunch follower of the right path.

Shirley could only imagine the uproar and panic it would cause after all three Valenzian Heroes turned out to be terrorists.

A sudden laugh, however, startled the young woman out of her thoughts.

“Hahahaha! That’s the reaction I was hoping for! Now then, young ones, go forth and seize your eternal glory! The WAA director is waiting for you, so be sure to head there today.”
