Chapter 739: The Final Mission
Three months passed since Shye completed his mission of investigating the labyrinth.
Naturally, he kept the Minotaur’s existence hidden from the WAA, instead enlisting Sanada’s help to create a core-like device that emitted a peculiar roar, capable of controlling monsters.
This task was simple for Sanada, who was skilled in the soul arts.
Thus, the WAA concluded that the hidden labyrinth was created by terrorists as a habitat for the monsters they had tamed, intending to use them in attacks on cities.
Shye managed to handle the situation effectively, enabling him to move forward with the launch of his recruitment operation.
Time was of the essence, especially since he didn’t know when Dweezel would try to strike him down or capture him.
He needed to be ready to leave society anytime he needed to.
The problem was Maia, who was based in Balkrow City. He would have to make a trip and talk to her.
Wendy was the first target of the remaining five friends Shye aimed to recruit, convinced that once she was on board, the others would be more inclined to join.
After all, Wendy was someone who wouldn’t engage in anything associated with evil.
Furthermore, her bond with Shirley should have strengthened through the three special missions they had undertaken together, with two completed and only one left to go.
Shye had just returned from his second quarterly mission assigned by the WAA, which tasked him with either driving an adult Fire Dragon away from its habitat near a city and back into a Death Zone or, if possible, eliminating it.
Naturally, he didn’t kill the dragon, as it would make an excellent addition to the dragon army he was assembling.
During this mission, he also confirmed his suspicion that he couldn’t simply cast [Tame] on creatures at the start of a battle—he first needed to weaken them.
Of course, he was able to defeat and tame the Fire Dragon named Zolnar pretty easily with the help of Zeth.
It was only a little over a hundred years old, after all, so it was a pretty young dragon.
While younger dragons made for excellent additions to his army, Shye was really targeting elder dragons or even emperors if possible, though he wasn’t certain he could handle one at this moment.
It was a good thing that he didn’t have to think much of it for now, as his focus was recruitment.
Two months ago, Shye finally convinced Sanada to lend him his only piece of evidence proving that Dweezel was responsible for everything—the crucial missing element he needed to effectively recruit his friends.
He promised the old man that he would take good care of it and ensure that everyone he recruited with it would be worth the risk.
This evidence had come to Sanada through great hardship and heartache, resulting in the destruction of his first terrorist organization.
The unreplicable recording crystal was given to him by the dying hands of one of his former comrades, Aeryth Whitemane of the Heavenly Light, the priestess of the Yon Augenn Hero Party that had sealed the Black Dragon of Destruction.
Within the crystal lay a recording of Dweezel confessing everything to Aeryth, tempting her with visions of immortality and eternal companionship.
The clever priestess pretended perfectly, acting excited about joining the scheming villain and seeming truly happy at the idea of immortality and eternal companionship.
This was how she managed to gather such an important piece of evidence.
Unfortunately, her lack of experience got the better of her, as she left Dweezel’s headquarters that very night.
Had she waited a week or two, she could have easily slipped away, since by then, the former Golden Sun Hero would have instructed his men to ease up on monitoring her movements.
Through sheer wits and willpower, she narrowly escaped her pursuers, though she was severely wounded in the process.
If not for Sanada’s timely response to her desperate distress call, her death would have been in vain—the evidence would have fallen back into Dweezel’s hands, and Sanada would have lacked the will to start over and try to build his own force again in an attempt to save the world.
Ultimately, her corpse and soul were retrieved by Dweezel’s men led by his most trusted aide, Cody Ferret.

The recording crystal in Shye’s hands held such significance that Sanada was reluctant to lend it to him.
Fortunately, Shye managed to persuade the old man in the end, using his role as one of Sanada’s key trump cards to his advantage.
Shye lay comfortably on his bed, clutching the crystal tightly and gazing at it against the backdrop of the ceiling, deep in thought as he awaited Shirley’s return.
‘She’s probably close to completing her final mission by now…’

“Hah… Hah…” An orange-haired young woman breathed heavily as she sprinted through the metal hallways of what appeared to be a headquarters, carrying a white-haired woman of the same age on her back.
“Shirley, are you sure you want to continue carrying me? I’m pretty heavy…” Wendy asked with slight guilt.
They had been battling while sneaking around in Midnight Brigade’s Third Headquarters for a whole week, taking down one terrorist after another with few chances to rest—especially for Shirley, who was shouldering most of the fighting.
The two of them lacked Shye’s immense strength and experience, as well as Ian’s exceptional stealth skills.
Instead, their team consisted of a resilient warrior who would never back down from a challenge and a clever yet inexperienced priestess serving as the brains of the duo.
Wendy’s plans didn’t work most of the time, as she wasn’t familiar with the cunning and sneaky ways of the terrorists, leaving Shirley panting in exhaustion after every battle to get themselves out of a sticky situation.
Still, Shirley didn’t voice any complaints, aware that her own plans would be far worse than Wendy’s.
Fortunately, their combat skills were enough to keep them alive.
They even managed to somehow stumble their way to progress.
Reinforcements from other Midnight Brigade headquarters had arrived days earlier and were actively searching for them, combing through every room in pursuit of the two young women who had already taken the lives of hundreds of their members, including several elites.
“Hah… Hah… Let’s take a break here for a bit, Wendy…” Shirley whispered, glancing around the room as she rested under an office desk. “We should be safe since we disabled the security crystals in this area a few hours ago…”
“Shirley… you don’t seem well…” Wendy said gently, stroking Shirley’s head. “Try to get some sleep for a few hours; I’ll keep an eye out. They’ll probably be looking for us on the eighth floor and won’t notice that we’ve come back to the seventh…”
