Chapter 742: Three New Pillars
Asger lost his wits for a second while watching his commander’s head hurtle through the air.
However, before he could even regain it, he heard his other commander curse to the wind.
“Damn it!” Stell cried out, frozen in place as Wendy’s piercing azure eyes and golden magic circles bound him. “Wait! Wait!!!”
In the blink of an eye, the commander’s severed head flew toward Asger, rolling to a stop just a few meters away.
Stell ended up just like Brock.
Witnessing this, the cunning Asger had the urge to flee, like he always does whenever his forces are being wiped out.
This was how he was able to preserve his life and keep the organization running for close to two decades now.
However, upon remembering that in front of him were two young ladies whose origins were unknown, Asger calmed down.
He had extensively studied all the talented youngsters of today, especially the four young heroes.
This was for the sake of not stupidly losing his life to someone who was destined for greatness.
Asger knew his limits, and he was definitely wise enough to avoid those he couldn’t defeat.
Hence, upon remembering that the two young women in front of him were both unknown, he realized that the two of them were destined to end up as his playthings.
Excited by the thought of spending the evening with the two young ladies, Asger decided to face Shirley and Wendy alone, deciding not to wait for reinforcements.
He was confident in his skills as a scout, and he believed he could easily incapacitate Wendy, a mere priestess.
Scouts were the bane of spellcasters, after all.
Once Shirley was alone, Asger was sure that he would simply toy with her in a duel.
With this plan in mind, the vice-leader of the Midnight Brigade charged forward, zigzagging to lure Shirley into making a misstep, which would allow him to reach Wendy more easily.
He could, of course, use [Blink Strike].
However, at such a high level of battle, using it as an opening move would be unwise, as it would make his reappearance far too predictable.
It might even allow Shirley to wound him heavily.
While he wasn’t convinced he would lose to the young female warrior in a duel, Asger at least respected her for possessing ridiculous strength for her age.
He certainly didn’t want to be on the receiving end of it.
Unbeknownst to the terrorist vice-leader, the two had long discussed a trap to defeat him.
Just like Asger hoped, Shirley made a “misstep”, allowing him to easily get to Wendy.
Naturally, the sight of a scout heading towards an unprotected priestess was every spellcaster’s nightmare.
This was evident in the panicked expression on Wendy’s face.
“Hahaha! And that’s one down! Rest for now, my beautiful toy!” Asger exclaimed with a wide smile as he engaged the young priestess in melee combat. With a few swift combos, he easily made Wendy stagger, lose her balance, and fall on her back.
She was now as defenseless as a one-day-old chick.
Little did the vice-leader know, everything was going according to the two young ladies’ plan.
Though Shirley and Wendy had no fear of facing the scum in a fair fight, they were determined not to let the cunning Asger slip away, prompting them to devise a plan to defeat him without giving him any chance to escape.

If the two heroine candidates pull their plan off perfectly, then Asger’s only option would be to curse at the wind.
The terrorist vice-leader pretended to deliver a powerful downward strike meant to knock Wendy out, prompting the young priestess to close her eyes and desperately shield her face with her life staff—a common reaction among inexperienced spellcasters when overpowered by a warrior or scout.
Seizing the opening he’d created, he executed a side somersault to position himself near her head and struck downward, aiming to incapacitate her for good.
‘Heh, one plaything is secured!’ he thought with a nasty smile.
However, it was then that a yellow translucent sphere suddenly expanded from within Wendy, reaching a ten-meter radius and catching Asger completely off guard.
His eyes glowed yellow as he hung suspended in mid-air, motionless as if entranced.
“…Begone, scum!” Shirley’s voice sounded from behind, the edges of her katana gleaming an eerie dark purple. “Nightfall Reaper!”

“Aah…” A bittersweet sigh escaped from near an office window. “Just a few months ago, the ten of us were complete, tackling quest after quest like an unstoppable force. Now, Big Madam and lil sis Wendy are already being inaugurated as heroes!”
“Seira, shouldn’t we be happy for them?” Luna responded, ever the voice of reason. “Besides, we’re now fairly well-ranked adamantite adventurers. We should celebrate how far we’ve come so quickly. I can’t imagine reaching such heights on my own.”
“Luna, of course, I’m happy for them!” Seira said, feeling slightly wronged. “It’s just that, I miss the old times, you know?”
This time, Luna remained silent.
She, too, longed for the old days when the ten of them blasted through the ranks, defeating monster after monster and raiding bandit hideouts.
Meanwhile, Shye smiled as she watched the two, feeling a wave of nostalgia wash over him.
If he could, he preferred to enjoy completing quests with his friends as well.
However, he knew that those days were over, at least until Hadean Varsa achieved its goals and Dweezel was vanquished.
Nonetheless, he was determined to bring back those days.
“How about you, Ian?” He asked, shifting his attention to Ian. “When will your inauguration be?”
“Hmph, are you mocking me for falling behind Shirley and Wendy?” Ian jokingly snorted. “I still have to complete two more special missions before I can join you guys.
On the other hand, Harry and David felt quite dejected.
They had been left behind and hadn’t received any offers to become regional champions either.
Shye and the others naturally noticed this.
Unfortunately, the WAA determines who is worthy, and Shye was certain that the two wouldn’t want special treatment just because he recommended them.
All they could do was wait.
“Well then, it’s getting late, shall we go to Valenzia Square?”.
A few moments later, seven youngsters left Shye’s office, exiting the guild under thousands of awestruck gazes.
Two batches of rookies and veterans had been promoted to the main headquarters around a month ago.
Naturally, everyone was excited to see the legendary Shye Crowley of Black Dawn in person, along with Ian Izanagi, who was also a well-known scout hero candidate.
Arriving at Valenzia Square about twenty minutes later, Shye and the others took their designated seats, with Seira feeling particularly pleased to be sitting among the “VIPs.”
After five more minutes, the ceremony finally began, with Director Belford giving his opening speech.
“…With this, I am proud to introduce our region’s three new heroes!” the old man exclaimed with excitement and pride as three beautiful women took the stage. “With their support alongside our very first hero, Shye Crowley of Black Dawn, our region will not only be safer but will also flourish into a new golden age!”
Meanwhile, upon hearing the old man’s words, a confused expression appeared on Shye’s face.
“Three?”
