Chapter 748: Drake Massacre
To Shirley, it was as though Shye performed a magic trick, appearing in two places at once.
She was even more impressed upon seeing that the rock drake’s head was already at their location, prompting her to quickly look at the drake’s hiding place.
However, all she could find was the draconian creature’s dead body.
The Shye that killed it was nowhere to be found.
“H-How did you do that?” Shirley asked in bewilderment.
Naturally, Shye didn’t intend to explain, as it would make the trick lamer in his lover’s eyes.
After all, it was not too difficult to pull off with the help of his Ravenous Doppelganger.
All he did was summon the doppelganger after activating stealth, granting it permanent [Superior Stealth] status as it crouched beside Shirley, mimicking his position before he used the skill to vanish.
Shye then moved quietly towards the drake and decapitated it with a single strike, proudly showing the severed head to his lover before using [Swap] to exchange places with the doppelganger.
When Shirley jumped in surprise at hearing his sudden voice beside her, he activated [Dark Merge] to absorb the doppelganger, creating the illusion that he had suddenly returned from the lookout drake’s position back to her side in an instant.
It was a rather neat maneuver, made possible by his recent discovery that using [Swap] while in physical contact with an object or being allowed him to take them with him—whether it be a person, a creature, or even his familiar.
“Haha,” he chuckled. “That’ll stay a secret until after I claim my prize!”
“Hmph…”
Shirley merely snorted in response, fully knowing this wasn’t the best time to uncover the secrets of Shye’s trick.
Shye chuckled once more before standing up, prompting Shirley to follow as he advanced once more toward the cavern atop the rocky mountain.
After around half an hour of climbing, the two finally arrived near the mountain’s peak, immediately seeing the reported cavern’s entrance.
“Tch, these creatures are smart enough, aren’t they? So why do they keep trying to migrate outside the Death Zones? They could have lived peacefully within it,” Shye muttered, earning a nod from Shirley.
She, too, couldn’t comprehend why such a large rock drake family would leave the Varca Death Zone, the zone where Shye had coincidentally left Nookie to train.
This odd behavior from the rock drakes made Shye slightly worried for the imp.
Though Nookie was a formidable grandmaster puppeteer, as the creature’s master, Shye couldn’t shake the fear that their connection might suddenly break.
Nookie was, after all, an essential part of his personal army’s power, and he couldn’t afford to allow the little guy to die.
‘Perfect timing… I’ll give the imp a few rock drake corpses and introduce Shirley to it afterward…’ Shye thought, signaling for Shirley to follow him toward the cavern’s entrance.
He then summoned Zeth after arriving.
“Zeth, guard the entrance, let no drake escape.” Shye ordered, “Also, if you have to kill a drake, leave its corpse intact. I’ll give you half the monster cores later.”
“Understood, master,” Zeth replied, transforming from a black bracelet to its gorgeous mare form.
The next moment, the couple strode inside the cavern as though it was theirs.
Naturally, with such a bold approach, the rock drakes easily noticed their arrival.
The draconians bared their sharp rows of teeth at them, while the group’s alpha roared menacingly.
Soon after, with the alpha rock drake in the lead, around nine rock drakes began gliding towards the couple, with the smaller ones at the back forming energy blasts in their gaping maws.
“Shirley, don’t hold back and kill as many as you can. I’ll handle the rest.” Shye said, facing the rock drakes with not a hint of fear.

“Understood,” Shirley responded, equally stoic.
She couldn’t explain why, but with Shye beside her, she somehow felt that there was nothing to worry about despite there being nine monstrous existences close to the peak of the monster hierarchy trying to kill them.
“Sword Realm!” Shye exclaimed, stopping the small drakes from unleashing their energy blasts while simultaneously boosting his and Shirley’s physical attributes.
On the other hand, the drakes were confused, suddenly crashing down one by one as they failed to control their glides.
Although the amount was minimal, the drakes used mana to assist their gliding.
Thus, when they suddenly lost control over their flight paths, they panicked and crashed onto the cavern’s rocky floor, with a few ramming into the rocky walls and suffering minor injuries.
Taking advantage of the situation, Shye and Shirley bolted forward, brandishing their weapons.
Shirley quickly cast her [Unique]-tier sword skill, [Ode of A Thousand Swords], to damage multiple drakes at once, causing them to roar in anguish while she directly decapitated another using the [Epic]-tier [Nightfall Reaper].
Shye had instructed her to go all out, and she took it literally.
As a result, she managed to instantly kill one drake and heavily injure six others, momentarily outshining Shye, who only succeeded in slicing the alpha rock drake’s brain in half, effectively slaying it.
Nonetheless, Shye’s kill was more impactful, as it left the hearts of the other drakes shaken.
None of them dared challenge their alpha.
Witnessing the young male human kill their leader with a single hit naturally made them cower.
The rock drakes were in shambles, and a few of them decided to fight to the death, while others quickly fled.
Unfortunately, they were all destined to perish today.
It was just a question of who among them would die first.
The two young heroes moved magnificently, graceful as a butterfly one moment, fierce as a tiger the next, slaughtering the drakes one by one.
Luckily for Nookie, Shirley wasn’t as quick as Shye when it came to killing rock drakes.
In the end, she was only able to kill three drakes, two of which would be unusable as puppets.
On the other hand, Shye managed to kill a total of five drakes, including the lookout drake, while Zeth killed two to prevent them from escaping.
Since they were capable of killing the drakes while holding back, the master-familiar duo killed the drakes as efficiently as possible, damaging the bodies as minimally as they could.
This would allow Nookie to obtain more value from the corpses when he added them to his grand corpse army.
Shye then extracted their cores, giving five of them to Zeth as promised.
“Thank you, master.” The dusk mare said as she chomped on the cores as though they were candies.
Shye sighed, taking a moment to admire his handiwork before storing five of the corpses in his large corpse containers.
He then instructed Zeth to carry the remaining two on her back, as the containers had reached their capacity, shifting his attention to his lover shortly after.
“Let’s go, Shirley, I’ll introduce you to another one of my trusted subordinates.”
