Chapter 771: Grim Conditions
“Liar! You’re nothing but a big, filthy liar, Shye Crowley!”
Maia’s angry voice echoed across the metallic room as she desperately tried to destroy the locked door.
“I see now—this was all a trap! Set by my own brother to capture me!”
Knowing that Maia might do something reckless, like hurting herself, if he allowed her to continue her irrational behavior, Shye took action.
He appeared behind his little sister and delivered a precise chop to her neck, knocking her out.
Alicia and Maverick quickly understood that this was the best course of action, and they would have done the same themselves if Shye hadn’t acted first.
Of course, Shye caught Maia as she was falling, temporarily carrying her on his back.
“S-Shye, has the enemy already discovered you’re part of our organization?” Maverick asked anxiously.
He was well aware of what his son had been up to lately and knew that his personal unit of over three hundred elites was still unprepared to leave society.
If Dweezel exposed them to the world before the exit preparations were complete, it would spell trouble for his son and jeopardize a significant part of his hard work.
“I’m not sure…” Shye replied, shaking his head slowly. “But that cursed old snake has been after my body for the same reason Sanada chose me as his system’s user. I suspect everything he’s doing right now is aimed at capturing me. Even so, there’s a good chance they already know I’m part of Hadean Varsa and are simply pretending otherwise, waiting to lure me into an inescapable trap.”
Alicia and Maverick clenched their fists in frustration and worry at their son’s words.
However, what could they do?
Shye was already stronger than them, and while they could guard him from the shadows, they were sure that the meager help they could offer with their current strengths wouldn’t matter much against Dweezel’s schemes.
The three of them could very well end up captured together.
To ensure Shye’s safety, they would need assistance from the organization’s elites.
However, with no way to predict when the old snake might make his move, the couple could only stare at the ground, utterly at a loss for how to protect their son.
Seeing this, Shye was moved, and his resentment towards them lessened, even if only slightly.
“Don’t worry, Mom, Dad.” He assured with a smile, prompting them to shift their attention back to him. “I have my methods. That old snake wouldn’t be able to catch me that easily.”
Naturally, Alicia and Maverick were still worried, but Shye’s confidence at least lessened the anxiety in their hearts, allowing them to think with a clear mind.
That’s right!
With the help of the system, their son had turned out to be one of the most talented youngsters in history, if not the most talented.
Additionally, he was the organization’s trump card and wouldn’t be so easily defeated.
“We believe in your abilities.” the couple said in unison.
After a tumultuous yet heartfelt reunion, Shye carried Maia to one of the private emergency rooms within the headquarters, while Alicia and Maverick returned to their responsibilities.
They had been tasked with raiding one of Dweezel’s Hawkin Strongholds to recover a crucial item lost during the raid and the destruction of one of their headquarters by the old snake’s men.
Hence, despite their concern for their daughter’s condition, they had no choice but to leave her in the care of their eldest and return to planning on how to efficiently retrieve the target item.
Shye secured Maia to the sturdy bed using one of the organization’s special cuffs, which suppressed her mana and restricted seventy percent of her strength.
This, of course, also ensured she couldn’t escape.
He then left the private emergency room and locked it, heading towards Sanada’s room to ask the old man for help.

“Old man, those bastards went after my little sister. I’ve brought her to Private Emergency Room One. Can you take a look at her? It feels like her mind’s been poisoned…” he said to Sanada as he entered the room unannounced—a privilege reserved only for the organization’s commanders.
The old man was already aware that Shye had brought Maia to the headquarters.
However, based on the young woman’s initial reaction upon arriving—observed through a holographic screen—Sanada hadn’t noticed anything amiss with her.
Thus, after a momentary frown, the old man disappeared into the void.
Shye knew that Sanada already went to Private Emergency Room One, so he also left Sanada’s room and headed to Maia’s.
Upon arriving, his little sister was already awake, struggling to escape from her confinement as the old man used some sort of soul skill to diagnose her body.
A few moments later, the frown on Sanada’s face deepened.
This caused Shye’s heart to race wildly.
“O-Old man…what did the bastards do to her?” he asked anxiously.
“They had her consume liquids infused with refined soul poison,” the old man explained. “It’s distorted her perception, causing her to instinctively align with anyone tied to Dweezel, especially those bearing the Hawkin Crest or badge. Judging by the sheer amount embedded in her very bones, they likely disguised it as a highly effective training tonic.”
Upon hearing Sanada’s explanation Shye clenched his fists so hard that his nails started digging into his skin.
‘I’ll make those bastards pay for this… Leffen Suntale, I’ll end your life in the most brutal, inhumane way imaginable…’ he vowed inwardly, shifting his attention back to the old man. “Is there a chance to cure her?”
Sanada didn’t answer for quite a while, making Shye extremely anxious, but just before he could speak again…
“There are two ways to cure her,” the old man began. “However, both methods involve the use of soul arts. There’s no way around it, as the refined soul poison itself was created using the forbidden art.”
Shye clenched his teeth for a long moment, but ultimately, he had no choice but to entrust his little sister’s safety to Sanada.
Never before had he felt so powerless, and the frustration stirred thoughts of delving into the forbidden arts himself.
“Fine…How long would it take to cure her?” he agreed, asking a follow-up question shortly after.
“About two months, give or take. However, it will be a grueling and excruciating two months for her. That said, if I succeed, the refined soul poison will turn into a blessing, providing her with a significant attribute boost.”
“I… understand. Do whatever it takes, but please, make sure she survives.”
“You have my word, young man. Now, off you go. Focus on the task I assigned you—war is upon us.”
