Chapter 787: Disappointment and Disbelief
Blas’s chest rose and fell with labored breaths as he struggled to contain his fury.
Moments ago, the old hero—revered as the greatest hero of all time—had blatantly disrespected him and was now brazenly pleading for leniency.
The sheer audacity of the man!
Nonetheless, his overwhelming achievement of “saving the world from the Black Dragon of Destruction’s wrath” fifty years ago was something that prevented Blas from lashing out.
‘Fine, I’ll allow it this one time.’ Blas thought inwardly, taking a deep breath to calm himself down.
Witnessing this, Guard Captain Balkan inwardly snorted in disdain, pleased at the fact that the Valenzian City Lord didn’t dare talk back to his lord.
‘That’s right, know your place, backwater City Lord.’ the man thought.
Blas remained silent, staring coldly at the reflection of the old man on the holographic screen, waiting for Dweezel to explain.
“I know that what I just showed did not prove my claims, so let me play a recording that would do so.”
The scene quickly shifted from that of an old man in his office to the scene of a young man walking towards an establishment.
Clearly, the young man was Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn.
With a hint of shock and disbelief, they watched him enter the establishment with Shirley, though this did not automatically mean he was a part of Hadean Varsa, as he might have been only there to purchase some consumables.
“Now, I want all of you to keep a close eye on the influx of people,” Dweezel instructed, prompting everyone to follow his lead.
Not long after the young heroes arrived, the Raven’s Blade adventurers began entering in pairs or trios, their movements raising suspicion.
As time went on, the onlookers’ frowns deepened.
The tipping point came when Ian and his companions finally stepped into the establishment.
Though their intentions inside the establishment were unclear, the sight of so many members from the same guild and a single group of friends entering within just twenty minutes—without anyone leaving—was undeniably suspicious.
“I’m sure you all noticed that the ones who entered were wearing Raven’s Blade badges on their chests, but that’s not all. We compiled a list of those who came in and discovered they’re all members of the Flashy Ravens Rising Division of the Raven’s Blade Adventurer Guild. This shouldn’t be too hard for everyone to verify.
Belford couldn’t stand to watch any longer, directly calling Dweezel through his mana communicator.
The next moment, the mana communicator placed atop the old snake’s desk rang, causing a shadow of a smile to emerge on the retired hero’s face upon seeing who the caller was.
All he had to do was persuade the Valenzian Director, and he’d have a legitimate excuse to hunt down Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn.
There was still a chance to claim his ideal vessel—if it didn’t end up being Alexander Aphelion’s body.
‘Hahaha! Wendy, dear Wendy Primrose! You’ve been such a blessing to me!’ the old man thought with triumph.
“You called, Director Belford?”
“Sir Dweezel, was this really necessary? Did you have to disgrace me and my region before the entire world? Why didn’t you inform the WAA before moving on your own?” the old director asked, his shaking voice reverberating through the holographic screen.
Normally, anyone, no matter how wicked, would have felt some guilt for treating someone this way, even if they were justified.
But Dweezel Hawkins had long since dismissed guilt as a useless emotion, erasing it from himself with the help of his soul researchers.
While he wasn’t happy with what he did to the Valenzian Director, he also felt nothing.
Everything for his final goal of achieving immortality.
“I apologize, Lord Belford. I’m fully aware of my shortcomings in this matter. However, the WAA’s investigative process, though thorough, is undeniably slow. This delay gives someone as cunning and dangerous as Shye Crowley an advantage. I believed this was one of those moments where swift and unexpected action was necessary, leaving the young man no time to respond. Once again, I deeply apologize, Lord Belford. I assure you, it was never my intention to humiliate you or your region. Everything I’ve done is solely to eliminate threats to the world.”

After an elaborate and “heartfelt” speech, Dweezel bowed, significantly calming the anger in Belford’s heart.
The old director had grown accustomed to outsiders scheming to humiliate him and his people.
This was why Belford immediately lost his composure, furious at the thought that Dweezel Hawkins—a retired hero revered by all—was no different, plotting to disgrace him.
However, hearing the old hero’s words, he finally calmed down enough to see that this wasn’t the case.
“I-I understand, Sir Dweezel. I also apologize for my harsh remarks. Rest assured, I agree that if Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn is truly innocent, he should have nothing to hide and will be able to explain everything without issue. Please, proceed.”
‘Hmm…that’s it? What a pushover.’ Dweezel thought inwardly, disappointed that all Belford needed was one apology.
“Thank you for your understanding, Director Belford.”
*BEEP!*
After putting down the mana communicator, the old snake shifted his attention once more to the live recording crystal.
“I’m sure the evidence I presented earlier has been enough for everyone to start making connections. However, I, Dweezel Hawkins, am not one to be satisfied with mere speculation. So, for the first time in my life, I decided to act against my principles,” Dweezel continued, his expression pained and slightly ashamed.
“I realized I could no longer delay, as the longer I did, the greater the danger to the world. So, I gave the order for my guards to temporarily restrain and interrogate Wendy Primrose. But to my men’s surprise, the Valenzian heroines were already under attack by Sinister, with Elysia Iceborne of the Eternal Frost already unconscious. We were fortunate to arrive when we did. Who knows what could have happened to the two heroines if we hadn’t?”
“It was then that my Guard Captain Balkan noticed the crest on Wendy Primrose’s chest. She… was indeed a member of Hadean Varsa,” the old man continued, his pained expression deepening.
“Fortunately, we were able to convince her in the past few days. While we didn’t dare release the young heroine just yet, it seemed she would no longer align herself with Shye Crowley’s cause to bring destruction to the world.”
“To provide undeniable proof to everyone, here is Wendy Primrose herself.”
