Chapter 788: Devastated Valenzians
Displayed on the holographic screen was the reflection of a gorgeous, silver-haired young woman, her gaze as icy as a wintry night by default.
However, everyone close to her knew quite well that her personality was far from cold.
Upon seeing Wendy on the holographic screen, the eyes of Elysia, who was still resting inside the WAA Valenzia Headquarters’ emergency room, widened.
She thought that she had lost her little sister forever.
After all, for young women like them, being captured by an evil terrorist organization would be a fate worse than death.
Who knows what they would’ve done to Wendy?
Fortunately, Dweezel Hawkins’ men arrived in time and saved her little sister from her predicament.
‘Maybe that’s also the reason why I wasn’t captured?’ she pondered, though another, bitter and slightly infuriating thought entered Elysia’s mind the next moment. ‘Then why didn’t he at least send some of his men to take me back to the Valenzia Headquarters?’
She had to tend to her own injured body and return alone because Dweezel didn’t give a single flying f*ck about her situation.
Now, the bastard didn’t even bother to give Belford an explanation for why he hadn’t sent some of his men to help her.
Initially, she held a very high opinion of the retired hero.
However, that opinion had now dropped a few notches, as it seemed the old man was far from caring, prioritizing his goals over the safety of others.
Nonetheless, it didn’t mean that she viewed her as someone who would lie.
After all, he was the hero who saved the world from the Black Dragon of Destruction’s wrath.
How could he be a conniving old liar?
As a result, Elysia was already eighty percent convinced that Shye Crowley was a terrorist mole, particularly after reviewing all the evidence presented by the retired hero.
This was why her expression was so dark.
The young man was, after all, extremely formidable, and she doubted her chances of taking him down in a one-on-one battle.
This implied that if Dweezel’s claims were accurate, Hadean Varsa would easily overrun Valenzia City, as its defense would rely solely on her and the three remaining titled adventurers: Midnight Fang, Piercing Zephyr, and Radiant Sentinel.
Just when Elysia was lost in her grim thoughts, Wendy suddenly spoke, temporarily allowing her to put such worrisome matters at the back of her head.
“I can confirm that Sir Dweezel’s statement is accurate. Here’s proof that I was once a member of Hadean Varsa,” the young priestess affirmed, revealing the upper part of her chest, where a black crest was visible. She continued, “I can also testify that, aside from Siegfried Lionheart and Lesurii Kusanagi, who left the guild a few months ago, all of Shye Crowley’s closest friends have joined the terrorist organization. Regarding the members of his division, I can confirm that not all of them joined. Some had their memories of the invitation erased.”
As Wendy revealed all the secrets about their identities, Shye trembled.
His close friend would never do something like this, which led him to conclude that the Wendy Primrose on the screen wasn’t truly her—it was most likely the resurrected Aeryth.
He felt a sudden urge to roar out loud in fury and invade Dweezel’s Mansion through the front door.
If only he could get his hands on the old bastard right this moment, he would’ve slashed him into thousands of pieces.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t even burst into a rage, as doing so would attract unwanted attention.
Moreover, it wouldn’t help in the slightest.
Shye could only clench his fists and grit his teeth as hard as he could.
He was unsure whether he could still bring Wendy back, but he would sure as hell try.

Shye had to take multiple deep breaths before managing to regain control of his emotions, proceeding to ignore Dweezel’s broadcast, instead moving along the next moment with a grim look and heading towards the location where Kiin and the others were.
Meanwhile, Lesurii sat in the lobby of her new guild, watching the broadcast unfold with utter disbelief and horror.
Her mind was flooded with thoughts of what might have happened—worry for her friends, feelings of betrayal, disbelief in what she was seeing, and a gnawing curiosity about the truth.
If only Siegfried were here, the two of them might be able to think of and do something.
However, with only herself, Lesurii lacked confidence, realizing how much she now relied on her beloved’s broad and comforting presence—though it didn’t change the fact that he would get an earful for suddenly leaving her.
Since he was in closed-door training, she decided to wait, steadily advancing her adventurer rank in the meantime.
However, after witnessing what she had just seen, her emotions became unstable, and she knew she wouldn’t be able to focus on completing quests for at least a week.
With Shye Crowley’s affiliation with the Black Dawn now largely confirmed, the public erupted in fury, demanding explanations from the WAA as if they were solely responsible.
In a way, they were.
After all, the WAA conducts background checks before allowing anyone to become a hero and awarding them a hero’s crest.
Due to their negligence, Hadean Varsa managed to steal four of the seven hero crests: two warrior crests, one scout crest, and one archer crest.
If not for the ever-reliable Dweezel Hawkins, who somehow captured Wendy Primrose before Sinister could, five crests would have been lost.
This would have been a complete disaster for Valenzia.
Fortunately, they at least managed to recover two of the six active Valenzian crests.
Nonetheless, this didn’t change the fact that they would be fighting against four young talented rebel heroes, and without help from other regions, Valenzia would surely succumb to the terrorists should the bastards attack their capital.
Naturally, the people of Valenzia were in complete despair, heartbroken by the betrayal.
Soaring Raven, in particular, appeared listless, devastated by the revelation that he might’ve been harboring terrorists.
They all found it extremely difficult to accept that Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn, who was supposed to be the brightest star that would carry their region to new heights, turned out to be nothing but a filthy terrorist keen on wreaking havoc upon the world.
