Chapter 792: Fifteenth Hawkling Strikes!
As five youngsters descended a staircase, one of them breathed a sigh of relief.
With a monstrous young man relentlessly closing in on him, Kiin found it hard to stay calm—especially with the pressing need to reach the ambush point on the thirteenth floor before Shye caught up.
After all, there was nothing he could do if Shye forced them to retreat.
Fortunately, despite the scare, he and his four captives managed to reach the thirteenth floor first.
From the sensation emanating from the crest, it seemed Shye was still lingering on the eleventh floor, perhaps just beginning the descent to the twelfth.
There was no need for him to worry now, as they were already on the thirteenth floor.
Even if Shye arrived, he would only be another person caught in the ambush, as there were around three hundred people from his Fifteenth Unit lying in wait.
While not as competent as the squads of the receptionists, the strength of each member was around peak mithril to mid-adamantite.
Such a force was definitely enough to overwhelm five youngsters, or at least hold them off for a time.
After all, reinforcements should be on the way, and as long as he could keep Shye around, capturing him would only be a matter of time, especially if his Lord Father learned of his operations and decided to take over.
A few more minutes of walking later, Ian and the others arrived at the ambush point.
To Kiin’s surprise, the Valenzian ex-scout hero suddenly stopped, seemingly sensing that something was amiss.
Despite all the ambush devices his unit had meticulously set up, he hadn’t anticipated that Ian would still sense the trap in advance.
The next moment, the young scout turned around and said:
“Run!”
Then, almost immediately, he bolted past Kiin, carrying Harry with him.
Mages are rather slow in terms of escaping
Hence, Luna did the same thing as Ian, quickly grabbing David before bolting towards the safe zone the two mages set up on the twelfth floor.
If they could reach the room where the teleportation circles were set up, they would be able to escape.
Clearly, the plan had failed, and they had to retreat. Otherwise, only death or a fate worse than death awaited them.
Ian was understandably baffled by the situation.
He couldn’t fathom how the enemies had discovered them, especially after he had expertly guided the group deeper into the headquarters.
He had also ensured they were enveloped in an illusion sphere, shielding them from the watchful eyes of the surveillance crystals.
‘Where did I go wrong?’ He thought.
However, he quickly found out the next moment that he had done nothing wrong after hearing Luna and David’s scream, their bodies falling to the floor with a thud.
Judging from the shield in his hands, it was Kiin who stopped the two from escaping.
“KIIN! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!” Ian exclaimed in utter fury, failing to understand what was happening.
Ian couldn’t comprehend why his friend had suddenly stopped their retreat.
The only explanation that came to mind was that Kiin had fallen for Wendy and lost his sanity over the thought of not being able to save her.
In the next moment, however, Ian realized just how mistaken he had been—and how dire their situation truly was.

“Capture them,” Kiin said, his eyes cold and distant as he looked back at the bewildered young scout.
“You bastard!! You’re Dweezel’s mole?!” Ian raged, quickly letting go of Harry and charging like a phantom towards Kiin. “Was everything a lie?!”
He had to quickly take his traitorous “friend” down. Otherwise, Luna and David would be in a terrible position.
Unfortunately, wielding the legendary, peak adamantite-tier shield, Kiin effortlessly deflected Ian’s attacks, fully recognizing the young scout’s abilities and wisely avoiding any attempt to engage him in close combat.
The Fifteenth Hawkling focused solely on defense, intent on buying time for his men.
He knew that with Ian’s personality, he wouldn’t leave anyone behind, so merely stalling Luna and David would prevent all four from escaping.
The ex-scout hero mercilessly stabbed and slashed at his former friend, not a hint of hesitation in his eyes.
Ian was out to kill Kiin as quickly as possible.
At the Raven’s Blade branch he had joined, Ian and Ava Rosan—the blueberry-haired girl he had faced in the adventurer academy competition and fallen for—were betrayed by their party members, leading to her tragic death.
This betrayal hardened him, leaving no tolerance for traitors.
Now, despite their former friendship, Ian felt no shred of empathy for Kiin.
If given the chance, he would unhesitatingly kill him in cold blood.
To Ian’s surprise, Kiin had concealed his true abilities well, skillfully holding his ground against Ian’s relentless barrage of swift and deadly attacks.
In their sparring sessions, Kiin would at most last thirty seconds against him, immediately falling into a disadvantage in the first five seconds of the fight.
Now, there seemed to be no signs of the bastard losing ground.
From his peripheral vision, Ian noticed ambushers swarming in from various rooms along the hallway, making his heart grow increasingly restless.
Luna, who had just recovered, quickly stepped forward, her gaze resolute as she prepared to sacrifice herself for the others.
“You three, run! Leave me behind!” she shouted, prompting Kiin to narrow his eyes.
He had long known that Luna was the martyr type.
Yet, observing her actions, Kiin couldn’t help but think she was foolish. His cold, self-centered heart was incapable of understanding the compassion that drove hers.
Nonetheless, he was sure that the other three wouldn’t flee without her, so what Luna was doing actually worked to his advantage, and this was proven right the next moment.
“Luna?! What are you doing?! Fall back already! We need to head for the twelfth floor!” David shouted, abandoning the spell he had been chanting.
With only Ian and Harry working to bring Kiin down and Luna stubbornly insisting on sacrificing herself for the group, events were unfolding exactly as the traitor had planned.
The situation was dire.
Ian gnashed his teeth in utter frustration, his brain overwhelmed by the anxiety of them being surrounded.
Just as he was beginning to lose all hope, a loud metallic crash echoed from above, and sturdy metal sheets came tumbling to the ground, crumpled as though they were mere paper.
