Chapter 800: Alpha Three
“Commander!” Vice-commander Lieffer exclaimed worriedly upon seeing Maverick being sent flying once more, almost losing his life.
The terrorist elites found it remarkable that their commander had survived more than ten encounters with a renowned Yon Augennian Hero.
However, they couldn’t allow Maverick to die so easily.
Thus, right after the first clash, Lieffer promptly sent a distress call to Alpha One, requesting reinforcements due to the arrival of a hero.
After all, it was widely known that restraining a hero required at least two combat-competent commanders or vice-commanders—and likely three when dealing with a Yon Augennian Hero.
While Lieffer was a strong vice commander, Maverick’s combat prowess was just so-so.
It was impossible for the two of them to hold on for a long time against someone like Baradur.
They definitely needed assistance from Alpha One’s unit.
Lieffer jumped in front of Maverick and slashed his saber, helplessly clashing head-on against the powerful Yon Augennian Hero.
“Lieffer!” Maverick exclaimed with a worried tone.
There was no way his attributes would be on par with a hero.
Hence, after the loud, metallic clanging noise, the vice commander was sent flying across the hallways, rolling on the ground for a few meters while vomiting blood.
Lieffer’s body was undoubtedly battered and heavily injured.
Yet, he courageously struggled to stand up, knowing he could not let Maverick die.
The organization could easily raise a lot of strong combatants like him with the help of soul arts.
However, no matter how hard they tried, it would be hard to replace someone who was talented in strategies and tactics like Maverick.
Having abandoned everything and sworn to sacrifice himself for the noble cause, Lieffer was determined to ensure a bright future for those he left behind, even if it meant he wouldn’t be part of it.
With a roar, he once again charged forward.
He fervently hoped to aid Maverick, whose gritted teeth revealed his doubt about enduring the hero’s next attack.
Unfortunately, despite his bravery, it seemed that he would not make it in time.
Fortunately, just as the hero’s tachi—wreathed in translucent golden flames—was about to strike Maverick’s katana, a slim young man in a black uniform, white mask, and a black-and-red cape appeared before him.
A shadowy figure emerged from his dagger, absorbing the force of the blow before vanishing into nothingness.
“Alpha Three, reporting,” the young man announced. “Commander, leave this fight to me and continue with your mission.”
Watching how effortlessly the young terrorist neutralized one of his higher-ranked offensive skills, Baradur frowned, his eyes hardening with a cold, intense focus.
It was clear that the opponent before him possessed formidable combat prowess.
Baradur knew he had to lock in.
Naturally, how could Ian Izanagi of the Nightfall Requiem, a former hero, lack competence in combat?
Now assigned to Squadron Alpha, his role was to respond to distress calls as quickly as possible and ensure that the probing operation proceeded smoothly with minimal losses on their side.
Initially, the plan was for them to focus on increasing their attributes for the final battle.
However, while this was Shye’s order, they could not disregard Sanada’s commands.

As a result, he, along with Shye, Shirley, and Reginald, formed Squadron Alpha— a group of individuals with exceptionally strong combat prowess.
This arrangement was only temporary, though.
They all remained members of Shye’s Black Dawn Unit.
Baradur, wary of his current opponent, decided to let the Hadean Varsa Commander go, thinking that such a weak individual would not pose much threat in the grand scheme of things.
Only, he failed to consider the possibility that he had just allowed the sole competent strategic commander of the most notorious organization to escape, wasting the world’s only chance to eliminate such a problematic individual.
He believed that it would be more beneficial to take Ian out.
Circling while skillfully swinging his Tachi in the air, Baradur showcased his mastery of his weapon and his monstrous strength.
Such a huge tachi, yet, he was waving it around like nothing.
Unfortunately, how could Ian Izanagi, who had already taken the lives of countless people—some of whom he thought genuinely wanted to befriend him, only for them to turn out as traitors—be intimidated by such basic tactics?
He had faced countless life-and-death situations, even losing his beloved Ava in one of them.
Baradur could swing his sword until his arm gave out, and Ian wouldn’t give a single rotting damn.
Realizing that his intimidation tactics weren’t working, the Yon Augennian warrior hero frowned, springing to action the next moment.
With a terrifyingly swift and forceful lunge, he raised his tachi, its edges gleaming with blinding, razor-sharp golden light.
Ian was momentarily blinded.
However, his sharp senses allowed him to dodge the attack by stepping back with terrifying precision, causing Baradur’s eyes to momentarily widen in disbelief.
He had already unleashed one of his favorite killing combinations, using two [Rare]-tier skills—[Tiger Pounce] and [Come to the Light]—successfully catching Ian off-guard.
Baradur struggled to accept that Ian had evaded the terrifyingly swift and lethal attack using nothing more than the most basic and common movement skill, [Swallow Step].
As a result, a seed of frustration unknowingly took root in his heart, urging him to restore his pride and dignity by overpowering his opponent.
The next moment, Baradur charged once more.
He launched a five-meter-tall golden slash toward Ian, fully aware it would be easily evaded.
However, the attack successfully served as a diversion, allowing Baradur to strike from another angle on Ian’s left.
“You’re mine, terrorist elite!” the hero exclaimed triumphantly, believing that it would be impossible for any human to react to his attack given such little time. “Die!”
At first, it seemed his expectations were correct, as his tachi appeared to slice Ian’s figure cleanly in half, horizontally.
To his surprise, there was no blood when the upper half of Ian’s body fell to the ground.
The sound it made didn’t resemble that of a human body hitting the floor.
Instead, it sounded more like a patch of slimy mud splattering onto the ground from head height.
Soon after, though, Baradur felt danger from behind.
Death was beckoning.
