Chapter 805: Inevitable Sacrifice
Within an unusually spacious metallic chamber, two void portals appeared, followed by the activation of a massive magic circle etched into the metallic floor.
Soon, people clad in black cloaks stepped out of the portals, one after the other, quickly getting into formation soon after.
Shye and Ian were among these people.
On the other hand, Shirley and Reginald returned via the Organizational Recall Room, so they still needed to walk towards the location of the Operation Escape Room to rendezvous with Shye and the others.
After a few minutes, the flow of raiders emerging from the portals finally ceased.
It appeared that everyone from Maverick and Alicia’s Strike Forces had already arrived.
There were still no signs of Hakkin’s Strike Force One, though, causing Maverick to frown in slight worry.
He was the Head Commander of this operation.
Furthermore, Hakkin’s elite unit of 1,500 soldiers was a crucial combat asset to their organization.
Losing them would deal a significant blow to Hadean Varsa.
Before long, the Crowley Couple noticed the faint glow of the magic circle, signaling that Hakkin’s force had been forced to use their immensely valuable one-time-use mass emergency escape scroll to flee.
They’ve been instructed by the old man to not use the scroll in this operation unless absolutely needed.
From this, Maverick surmised that Hakkin and his men had either delved too deeply into the Hawkin Group’s headquarters to withdraw in time or had faced unforeseen complications.
However, if it were the latter, why hadn’t they requested reinforcements?
Alpha Two and Alpha Four were on standby the entire time!
Finding Hakkin’s decisions questionable, Maverick planned to interrogate him once he arrived.
However, in the very next moment, the head commander’s plan was completely abandoned upon witnessing the condition of the approximately one thousand men who materialized from the purple mana particles.
Most of them were injured, a few even barely breathing.
Naturally, Maverick ordered the support squadrons to promptly attend to the severely wounded, managing to save most of them, except for a few who succumbed to their injuries immediately upon arrival.
Overall, around 1,050 elites from Hakkin’s force survived.
After confirming that there were no more wounded, Maverick immediately went to look for Hakkin to ask him what happened.
Unfortunately, it was unusually hard for him to spot the guy this time, only managing to find Kirov.
“Kirov, where’s Hakkin? I need to speak to him.” Maverick said, his voice stern.
He didn’t hide that he was not happy with Strike Force One’s results.
“Commander Hakkin…is gone.” the vice commander replied, causing Maverick’s eyes to widen momentarily and his heart to instantly sink.
“What?! Speak, what happened?!” the commander asked in disbelief.
He and his wife had sparred with Hakkin in the past.
It was only when they fought together that they managed to last for a long time against him, but even then, they still lost in the end.
Although Maverick’s combat capabilities were the weakest among all twenty Hadean Varsa Commanders, Alicia’s combat prowess was by no means weak, and she was probably ranked around sixth or seventh in terms of dueling capability.
In fact, she could probably even slay titled adventurers and the weaker heroes by herself given the opportunity.

Killing regional champions would be a piece of cake for her.
This further proved how strong Hakkin was.
Yet, that very same monstrous commander perished in battle, and almost a third of his elites, who were probably among the strongest elites in Hadean Varsa, had also perished with him.
Maverick struggled to wrap his head around why such a powerful unit, probably capable of massacring half of Dweezel’s forces if not handled properly, suffered such horrendous losses, even losing their Commander Hakkin in the process.
“Everything was going great, and we were able to make it to the fifth floor in a short amount of time. But then, Alexander Aphelion arrived.” Kirov began, “Although Commander Hakkin was able to fool the young hero into engaging in a duel with him, it didn’t matter much due to how overwhelming the disparity in combat prowess was. If not for the commander ordered me to immediately begin secretly pouring mana into the emergency mass teleportation scroll, none of us would’ve escaped. It was due to the commander’s sacrifice despite knowing he was no match for the hero that we at least managed to save a thousand elites.”
Upon hearing Vice Commander Kirov’s explanation, Maverick clenched his fists and secretly gritted his teeth.
There were no problems in Hakkin’s decision-making at all.
Unfortunately, someone who should not be inside the Hawkin Group’s headquarters turned up, and that someone turned out to be way stronger than Hakkin himself.
This was already the best outcome for them.
Nonetheless, Hakkin’s death wasn’t for naught, as they were able to confirm that there were heroes who had sworn allegiance with the Hawkin Group, breaking their oath of being loyal only to the WAA and its cause of bringing order to this chaotic world of monsters and magic.
Alexander likely isn’t the only one aware of the enormous, labyrinth-like headquarters of the Hawkin Group beneath Yon Augenn City.
Losing Commander Hakkin along with a third of his elites was a heavy blow to the organization. However, their findings were also of equal value.
Such sacrifices were inevitable if they wanted to achieve their goals.
Recognizing there was nothing to reprimand Hakkin’s remaining men for, Maverick simply tapped Kirov on the shoulder in acknowledgment of his report.
Leaning in, he whispered that Kirov would take Hakkin’s place in the final battle.
Eager to avenge his commander, Kirov nodded resolutely, ready to cut down as many Hawkin Defenders and elites as he could.
Soon, Maverick dismissed everyone before leaving the room with Alicia and Kirov to report to Sanada.
Shye decided to tag along, as there was something he wished to discuss with the old man.
After relaying his instructions to Shirley, he followed his parents to the meeting room, wanting to hear the old man’s plans for himself.
After all, he, too, needed to plan for the growth of his unit and other armies.
Knowing the timeline of their operations was vital.
