Chapter 812: The Little Sister’s Second Test
“H-HOLY CRAP!!” Seira exclaimed in utter excitement, her spit flying through the air.
The next moment, she pointed her fingers at Ian, spouting crap as though she had been on Maia’s side right from the start.
“I-I-I TOLD YOU, LIL BR– V-VICE COMMANDER IZANAGI! THERE’S NO WAY MY BOSS’ LITTLE SISTER WOULD BE SOMEONE ORDINARY!! DID YOU SEE HOW STRONG SHE WAS?! NYAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! WELL DONE, LITTLE BOSS!!”
Naturally, Ian was also dumbfounded at Maia’s unexpected combat prowess.
He couldn’t believe that, despite consuming soul poison and being out of training for weeks, if not months, she had still managed to stay on track with her growth rate.
No, she had even surpassed it by a considerable margin.
Nonetheless, he couldn’t appear too surprised, or he would simply encourage Maia.
While it was impressive that she managed to defeat an elite from Kirov’s Strike Force, such an elite would still have a high chance of dying on the battlefield.
He needed to see more from her before making any decisions.
“Ahem!” Ian cleared his throat. “W-Well done, Maia. However, do not be complacent. You still have two more tests. As for your second opponent, it would be an elite from your brother’s unit.”
Retrieving his mana communicator, Ian pressed a unique code combination.
“Heron, come to our training room,” he ordered.
“Right away, Vice Commander Izanagi.” the man replied.
Soon, a hulking twenty-seven-year-old man with long black hair, a cross scar on his forehead, a greatsword in his right hand, and a large round shield in his left entered the room.
He seemed to be the very definition of a “tank”.
However, Ian knew this Heron guy well.
If one judged him to be slow based on his exterior, then one would undoubtedly be in trouble.
Furthermore, although Heron appeared to be a brute who only knew how to charge forward and attack, he was surprisingly smart and insanely calm when it came to combat, fully aware of how his opponents would perceive his fighting style and using their assumptions to his advantage.
Seeing the guy, Maia’s eyes sparkled.
“H-Hey, big bro Ian, is this big brother going to be my opponent?!” she asked excitedly, causing Kirov and his men to be dumbfounded once more.
During the sparring matches between the Kirov Elites and the Black Dawn Unit’s Elites, this particular man’s talent in one-on-one combat made him stand out in Kirov’s eyes.
The recently promoted commander most definitely remembered Heron.
While Kirov was sure he could defeat the man, he would have to plan his attacks well and take his time dismantling Heron.
Otherwise, although he wouldn’t lose, the battle would last for probably more than an hour, which was quite embarrassing should it happen, considering he’s a commander.
Now, that formidable Black Dawn Elite would face the young woman who showed up out of nowhere.
Yet, there were no hints of nervousness on her face, only pure excitement.
Did she think she wouldn’t lose? Or did she simply not care?
Either way, Kirov couldn’t wrap around the personality of Commander Black Dawn’s little sister, though he most certainly found her outlook on combat rather refreshing and admirable.
Soon, they found themselves anticipating how Maia would fare against Heron.
Given how easily she took out the Kirov Elite earlier, she was at least qualified to discuss joining the Black Dawn Unit.

However, whether she could defeat an elite of the unit itself, none of them were sure.
After all, every member of the three-hundred-strong unit was a monster in their own right.
Furthermore, Maia’s victory might’ve only been due to the Kirov Elite taking her lightly.
This battle would surely answer all their questions.
“Vice Commander, who’s this?” Heron asked curiously, leaning in closer to the smiling young woman’s face.
Her face struck him as strangely familiar despite being certain he had never seen her before.
Seeing his reaction, Ian was amused and decided not to answer, giving his elite ample time to figure it out on his own.
“Hello, Big Bro Heron. My name’s Maia Crowley, it’s a pleasure to be your sparring partner, and hopefully, your comrade-in-arms!” Maia said with a cute smile, extending her right hand to shake Heron’s.
Before the Black Dawn Elite could wrap his head around what she said, he unconsciously extended his right hand to return the young woman’s respectful gesture, only realizing who she was a few seconds later.
“M-M-Maia Crowley?!” he exclaimed in shock, comically jumping back. “A-Are you the Commander’s little sister?!”
“Uhmm, yes, hehe. But please, don’t go easy on me—give it all you’ve got. I love a good fight.”
Heron subconsciously nodded.
However, when the time came to fight, he was still a bit disoriented, causing the excited Maia to slightly frown in dissatisfaction.
‘Oh well, I guess it’s up to me to wake him up, then!’ she thought, her signature battle-crazed smile slowly emerging on her face.
Watching her gentle smile turn into a strangely excited one, Heron snapped back to reality, luckily just in time as the young woman in front of him suddenly rushed towards him at speeds unbelievable for someone her age.
His confused expression turning into a serious one, Heron placed his shield in front of him, observing Maia’s every move.
Realizing she couldn’t attack head-on, Maia used her speed and circled her opponent.
She planned to create an opening for herself.
Unfortunately, no matter what she did, Heron masterfully adjusted his stance, leaving no openings for her to exploit.
She had to use a skill to get past his tough guard.
And so, she did, performing strange hand and finger seals that summoned three mid-quality clones.
While their damage output could not compare to that of the original, their speed and aura at least made them useful as diversions.
Soon, Maia expertly blended in with her clones, swiftly moving alongside them as they dashed in a zigzag pattern, trying to confuse Heron about which of the four was the real body.
Heron frowned at the young woman’s masterful and patient approach.
Typically, young scouts like her tend to be impatient, rushing to take down heavily armored opponents like him as quickly as possible.
They become distressed and uneasy, knowing that if the battle drags on, Heron’s endurance will outlast theirs.
The way she approached the battle as though a pride of hungry lions trying to take down a tough rhinoceros showed that her combat intelligence was exceptionally high.
It also revealed that her heart remained calm and her brain—functional, despite facing a formidable opponent like him.
To top it all off, that slightly crazed smile on her face made Heron the uneasy one.
