“You’re only gonna step in now?” Shye retorted coldly, utterly fuming at the old man for stopping him.

If the old bastard was going to stop them anyway, then why did he wait until now, when his father was disrespected, before doing so?

Sanada was naturally guilty that he allowed the situation to play out.

He wanted to see if there was any chance of the two working together, but from the look of things, it seemed impossible.

Only Chaos was competent and patient enough to work with someone as difficult to get along with as Cobra.

However, Sanada couldn’t bow his head in apology in front of the other commanders, so he merely turned to Cobra to reprimand him in a rather harsh and slightly humiliating manner to make it up to Shye.

He was from Earth and understood that Shye’s desire to kill Cobra on the spot was a completely justified reaction.

Unfortunately, Cobra and his elite unit were essential to his plans, and he couldn’t allow the two of them to kill each other.

“Cobra,” the old man began, “Apologize to Maverick.”

An invisible force then began to tighten menacingly around Cobra’s neck, causing the commander to narrow his eyes.

“Old man, I know you’re strong, but do you believe me when I say I’m only allowing you to threaten me because you saved my life once?” the arrogant commander asked, utterly displeased.

Cobra didn’t see anything wrong with what he did.

He believed that combat prowess determined the rankings within the commander circle, and naturally, a weakling like Maverick had no right to speak.

Cobra thought he had already been merciful by not killing Maverick for daring to stand in front of him, so he fumed inside when Sanada reprimanded him—not knowing that the weak commander’s value lay in his strategic talent.

The fact that his fight with the former hero was interrupted only added to his annoyance.

“And do you believe me when I say I’m only allowing you to still exist right now because you and your elites are vital to my plans?” Sanada shot back, this time with a much colder tone.

He would not tolerate disrespect from his subordinates.

Meanwhile, Chaos had somehow procured a bag of popcorn and was leisurely enjoying the spectacle, as if watching a movie through his blindfold.

These were the situations he wanted to see!

Earlier, if it had seemed that Cobra wasn’t about to cause a commotion, he wouldn’t have stepped aside and stirred one up himself.

Sanada and his commander stared at each other coldly for a while before finally…

“Tch, fine. I’ll let it slide this time and apologize to you, old man,” Cobra said with a click of his tongue. “But there’s no way I’m apologizing to someone as weak as a fly as Maverick. I don’t even understand why you keep assigning this incompetent fool as the head of operations every time…”

The next moment, the hateful commander turned around and returned to his seat.

“And you think I’ll just let things go?” Shye chimed in, gearing up to charge at Cobra.

However, Maverick stepped in once more and stopped him, leaning close to his ear and whispering.

“Let it go, son. I’m not hurt. We’ll be launching our attack in just under six months, and like it or not, Cobra and his men are crucial to our plans. We can’t risk wasting all our sacrifices over his unruly behavior.”

Hence, Shye could do nothing but clench the handles of his greatsword in frustration, trying to let it all go with one deep breath.

Unfortunately, Cobra also wasn’t willing to let the situation settle so easily, throwing one last insult at Shye.

“Heh, and what are you going to do, little fly? If it weren’t for the old man, you would have learned your place in the Commander Circle by now.”

Infuriating as the bastard was, Shye had the [Unfazed Heart] trait, allowing him to act with his brain and not his heart.

Maverick’s explanation reminded him of the countless sacrifices he and his family had already made for the organization’s success.

He couldn’t afford to throw it all away because of a brainless idiot like Cobra.

With another deep breath, he managed to regain control of his emotions again.

“You’d better watch yourself and not give me the chance, Cobra. I’ll knock your teeth out and make you learn your true place in this dumb nonexistent ranking system in the commander circle that you invented.”

Cobra naturally wouldn’t allow Shye to have the last word in and threw more insults.

However, Shye ignored all of them, knowing it would be pointless to argue with Cobra right now, as he wouldn’t even be allowed to vent his frustrations even if he wanted to.

This was indeed not the time and place.

”I swear, you better not let me get my hands on you…’ he thought one last time before shifting all his focus to the slightly enraged Sanada.

The furious expression on the old man’s face helped him calm down further.

Realizing that the situation was diffusing, Chaos sighed in disappointment, returning his popcorn to his spatial bag.

‘Oh well, there will always be a next time.’ he thought.

Soon, the meeting resumed.

“Since Commander Black Dawn is here, I will restart the meeting. It was indeed my mistake for failing to inform him that today is our first general meeting for the unsealing operation,” Sanada began, briefly glancing at Shye.

Seeing that the young man had, for the time being, kept his frustrations to himself, the old man was finally able to focus on relaying the plan.

Fortunately, they hadn’t gotten far when he sensed Shye’s presence in the headquarters.

There wasn’t much left for him to repeat, saving him from the whining of other commanders.

“Again, the operation will begin here,” the old terrorist leader continued, pointing to a red location on the holographic map that appeared on the meeting table.

Shye’s eyes narrowed as he recognized the city.

According to the legend beside the map, red indicated a major city with a WAA branch, and the city Sanada was pointing to was none other than the capital of Shye’s home region, Valenzia City.
