Chapter 836: Menas, Elder Dragon of Flames
The one who arrived was Menas—a hot-headed Elder Fire Dragon whom Shye had managed to subdue with the [Tame] skill, though it had been an incredibly difficult task.
Menas was, by far, the hardest to tame out of all his tamed dragons.
The taming process almost failed.
Even now, despite his “tamed” status, the unusually aggressive dragon would suddenly snap and attack him.
Menas was also the elder dragon who always challenged Tarintus’ temporary leadership, leading to unexpected scuffles between the two from time to time.
The elder fire dragon was a feisty troublemaker for sure.
However, one couldn’t deny Menas’ might and ferocity, as even Tarintus usually fell into a small disadvantage whenever the two fought.
If not for the elder fire dragon being so hot-headed and aggressive, he would’ve been the temporary leader of the dragon army.
“What did you call me for?” Menas asked in a displeased tone, despite Tarintus having called him as politely as he could, even mentioning that it was the master who was summoning him.
“Didn’t I tell you already?” Tarintus responded, equally displeased by the elder fire dragon’s attitude towards their master. “Master is looking for you.”
Turning his head towards Shye, the elder fire dragon asked:
“Why did you call me?”
The fire dragon found it difficult to say the word “master”, for some reason.
Shye didn’t care whether the elder fire dragon called him master, though, as it was already enough for him as long as Menas followed his orders and respected his presence by not attacking other monsters when he was around.
So far, after teaching the Elder Fire Dragon a proper lesson by humiliating him in front of his kin, Menas had calmed down—or at least, he hadn’t snapped and attacked anyone for the past three months except for Tarintus.
Menas was utterly unhappy at having to follow the latter, and he wasn’t afraid to show it.
Nonetheless, although a troublesome tame, the mighty creature was a great help in taming other dragons, as it was renowned in the draconian circles for being fearless.
If even Menas was subdued by this young human, then it shouldn’t be humiliating for them to submit as well.
After all, Menas had a notorious history of ambushing dragon emperors, though he had never won a single battle against one and always ended up retreating with heavy injuries.
Tarintus had done his fair share of challenging emperors.
However, after losing three times, the elder dragon had long accepted that he wasn’t emperor material and found satisfaction in being a mighty force among all elder dragons.
Among Tarintus’ generation, all the dragons who were emperor material had already ascended, while the others, like Tarintus, had long given up on trying.
It was only Menas who was the anomaly.
Despite failing his challenges countless times over the past two hundred years, the elder fire dragon did not give up, challenging emperor after emperor in an attempt to take over the flight of dragons they were ruling over.
Alas, to this day, the elder has failed, even ending up in the hands of a mere human.
This was why Tarintus was more tolerant of Menas, despite their frequent clashes.
He truly respected the relentless attitude of the Elder Fire Dragon—perhaps even more than some emperors.
Nonetheless, with each failed challenge, it became increasingly difficult to ascend and gain the heavenly blessings reserved for draconian emperors—blessings that would make elder dragons even mightier than they already were.
This was why most elder dragons gave up after two or three tries.
“We’re going dragon-taming again,” Shye said, ordering Zeth to return to bracelet form through telepathy. “Your presence is a big help in subduing other dragons, come with me.”

Of course, like other hot-headed and aggressive creatures, Menas was quite the simple-minded dragon.
While he inwardly suffered almost every single day from his decision to serve a human, he liked being praised for his might and domineering presence.
“Hmph! Of course, with how strong I am, none would dare not submit!” Menas declared with a pleased smile. “One day, even those damned emperors would be fleeing at the sight of me! Let’s go.”
Shye smiled at the elder fire dragon’s words, quickly hopping on Menas’ back as Zeth transformed back into her bracelet form.
With one final reminder to Tarintus and Dallis, Shye and his tame blasted across the spacious pathways of the hidden cave, leaving short-lived flaming trails in their wake.
In no time, they exited the cave.
Of course, Shye also gave Nookie some instructions on how to handle WAA agents if they sent another investigation team before continuing on their way.
The two tamed monsters didn’t forget to glare daggers at each other.
If Shye hadn’t been there, things wouldn’t have ended with just a fiery staring contest for sure.
Soaring through the skies for six hours, Shye arrived at their first destination: the domain of the Wind Dragon Emperor, Zephyrus.
“Hoh, I hadn’t been here in quite a while…five decades, maybe?” Menas said with narrowed eyes, visibly excited.
Zephyrus was one of the dragon emperors Menas had dared to challenge in the past, and it was also one of the battles that left him deeply infuriated, burdened with countless “what ifs.”
It was widely known in the dragon circle that Wind Dragons don’t excel in duels between dragons.
Hence, Menas, in desperation due to its numerous failures, challenged Zephyrus in the past.
But unlike other dragon emperors, the Wind Dragon Emperor, Zephyrus, had a cold, condescending, yet calm demeanor.
Instead of accepting the challenge, he merely stared at Menas as though he were an idiot.
Furious, the Elder Fire Dragon forced his way toward Zephyrus, managing to heavily injure more than ten Wind Dragons before the emperor finally stepped forward to fight him.
Exhausted and spent, Menas was defeated in mere minutes.
He accused Zephyrus of being a coward for only engaging him after he was worn out, but the Wind Dragon Emperor simply retorted by calling him foolish.
Zephyrus explained that Wind Dragon Emperors fight alongside their flights to make up for their lower physical attributes, using their speed and coordination to systematically dismantle their opponents.
Menas also knew this.
Yet, he still dared challenge Zephyrus, banking on the fact that as an emperor, Zephyrus should be courageous enough to fight him, a lone elder fire dragon, in a duel.
Unfortunately, not everyone was as illogical as him.
Barely breathing, Menas had no choice but to retreat and recuperate, vowing to return to Zephyrus’ domain one day and kill every single Wind Dragon under him before finally ending the Wind Dragon Emperor’s life.
Now, his master has unexpectedly targeted the cowardly bastard.
It was time for payback!
