Chapter 839: I’ve Come To Take My Throne Above (1)
Shye, of course, wouldn’t allow his strongest dragon to die.
He would step in if it seemed like Menas would lose.
After another prideful, domineering roar, the elder fire dragon took the initiative and charged at the hesitating flight of ten mature dragons and fifteen young dragons tasked to rip him apart.
Luckily for Zephyrus, one of the five mature dragons, Volfr, was competent and prideful enough not to let a lone elder fire dragon threaten their entire domain.
It roared before charging right back at Menas.
Volfr’s courageous charge snuffed the fear out of his comrades’ hearts, successfully generating a second wind for the Wind Dragon Emperor’s deployed force.
Soon, the other four mature dragons and fifteen young ones roared a warcry of their own, following Volfr into battle.
Shye felt his heart race at the sight of his tamed elder dragon charging straight at twenty dragons.
He knew how strong dragons were, and while he, as a human, could nimbly dodge their attacks and take them down one by one.
Menas’ large frame couldn’t possibly be so agile.
Shye was sure that it would suffer heavy injuries.
On second thought, Shye regretted his decision to agree to Menas’ request in the first place.
It might be possible for a strong and nimble human like him to take down a dragon emperor’s army, but it was too difficult for a physically huge dragon to do the same, no?
He should’ve just helped Menas take care of the underlings, maybe even tame a few of them, before allowing him to fight Zephyrus one-on-one in better physical condition.
A few more moments later, Menas and Volfr arrived within striking distance of each other.
The former unleashed a fireball, while the latter countered with wind cutters, generated by a powerful flap of his wings.
Unfortunately for Volfr, the gap between elemental prowess was too vast.
The clash resulted in the wind cutters merely being devoured by the fireball, which continued forward with fearsome momentum, threatening to consume the mature wind dragon himself.
Volfr hastily moved out of the way by flapping his silver wings and flying to the left.
The fireball, however, was merely a diversion by Menas, who swiftly demonstrated the gulf between a seasoned dragon that had faced emperors countless times and one who rarely fought its own kind to the death.
Before Volfr even noticed, he suddenly felt a mind-shattering pain in his back.
The next moment, the mature wind dragon found himself plummeting to the ground, his consciousness slowly fading.
Falling beside him were his wings, both viciously torn apart by the ferocious invader.
As quickly as fear was banished from the hearts of the other dragons by their comrade’s roar, it returned with devastating force at the sight of that same comrade’s brutal end.
Unfortunately, it was too late for them to retreat.
Also, it would be extremely cowardly for them to do so.
Hence, with wavering hearts, the rest of the deployed dragon force fought, their attacks—uncoordinated, their movements hesitant.
To Shye’s surprise and Zephyrus’ horror, Menas tore through the ranks of the wind dragons, swiftly dispatching two mature attackers—the first by tearing out its throat with his teeth, and the second by driving his sharp claws through its heart.
Of course, the wind dragons in battle felt their blood run cold at the ruthless laughter of the victorious elder fire dragon.
Another mature wind dragon tried to take advantage of the fact that one of Menas’ claws was occupied by the corpse of her comrade, launching an attack from behind.

The wind dragon’s horrifying maws opened wide as she tried to rip Menas’ vermillion right wing off.
Unfortunately, how could a seasoned fighter like Menas fall to such a lame tactic?
He had long anticipated that one or more of them would seize the opportunity while he posed victoriously, even using it as bait to draw in the opportunistic while intimidating the faint-hearted.
With a quick turn around, Menas threw the wind dragon corpse in his hand towards the charging attacker, sending the mature female wind dragon shooting backward.
By the time she managed to stabilize her flight, a gigantic vermillion maw was already descending from above.
The mature wind dragon then felt a heavy force crunch down on the back of her neck.
Before she knew it, she had already fallen into oblivion’s embrace.
Now only one mature dragon and fifteen shaken young dragons were left.
The young ones had always believed that the mature dragons of their clan were vicious and ruthless—until they witnessed true ruthlessness from this elder of the aggressive fire dragon race.
Most of them were still hatchlings when Menas last attacked, so this was the first time they were fighting a dragon from another race.
Initially, despite the mature and elder dragons of their race supporting the claim that their race was slightly inferior to the fire dragons and thunder dragons when it came to one-on-one combat, the inexperienced young ones didn’t believe so, especially after feeling the overwhelming feeling coursing through their draconian body as they reached maturity.
They did not buy it and had long wanted to test their mettle against dragons of other races.
Only now, confronted by a ferocious warrior of the fire dragon race, did they truly grasp the wisdom of their elders’ teachings.
In fact, they realized that the term ‘slightly inferior’ was an overstatement of their own prowess, especially considering that one of them, Selene, had her throat torn out within seconds of facing an elder fire dragon.
They now also understood why Zephyrus, despite being an ascended emperor, did not dare carelessly face Menas without help from their clan.
This meant that to an extent, it was true that their emperor was afraid of fighting the elder fire dragon in a duel.
This realization naturally caused the morale of the young ones to plummet.
Unfortunately, they were now in combat, and the slight hesitation in their hearts was equivalent to death when faced with an experienced emperor challenger like Menas.
Soon, the remaining mature wind dragon roared, reminding them to focus on the battle.
The reminder came a bit too late, though.
Menas was already in the midst of the young dragons, a corpse in each of his claws and another clenched in his maw.
In an instant, the once twenty-one-strong dragon force—comprising one elder wind dragon, five mature wind dragons, and fifteen young ones—had been reduced to a single adult and twelve youngsters.
It was an utter disaster for the Wind Dragon Emperor’s flight.
