Chapter 843: One Last Time
Amidst the storm in the gray skies, a flickering flame weaved left and right, dodging wind projectiles with gritted teeth.
Menas prioritized dodging the wind tornadoes, as being caught up in one meant death.
He also tried firing back here and there.
However, the rain reduced the effectiveness of his attacks by around fifteen percent, rendering his fireballs and flame tornadoes unable to stand up to the might of the wind tornadoes and projectiles.
Nonetheless, spending his mana at least allowed him to knock them off-course.
Menas flapped his vermillion wings desperately, soaring high one moment and dipping low the next.
Unfortunately, despite his efforts, wind cutters and wind cannons occasionally struck him, causing scorching red blood to splatter out of the wounds, his consciousness slowly fading.
The raindrops against his body also felt slightly unpleasant, a discomfort tied to his nature as a fire dragon.
Shye watched everything with gritted teeth and clenched fists.
‘Why did I let it escalate this far? I could’ve stopped it earlier!’ he thought, filled with regret at the possibility of losing Menas.
If that happened, he wouldn’t just lose the strongest fighter in his dragon army—he would gain almost nothing in return, with only a few wind dragons left.
Even if he managed to tame them all, they could never replace Menas, who had just proven his unmatched might to his master.
Shye could only hope that the windstorm would end soon.
If his elder fire dragon is still alive by then, he would quickly step in and save him.
It didn’t take long for Shye to get his wish, as just a few more seconds later, Zephyrus stopped roaring, and the silver magic circles around him slowly dispersed.
[Wrath of the Wind God Lv.3 (Legendary)], had exhausted around sixty percent of the Wind Dragon’s mana.
Soon, the skies cleared, revealing a vermillion figure.
As the sun peeked through the slowly dispersing gray clouds, the once small, flickering flame burned brighter and brighter.
There flew Menas, the elder dragon of flames.
His draconian body was ravaged by grievous wounds, leaving him seemingly clinging to life by a thread.
Yet, the crazy smile on his face remained steadfast, despite shattered pieces of his rugged vermillion scales falling off.
Shye, however, did not dare appreciate the glorious scene of his tamed monster literally weathering a horrifying storm.
He quickly sprang into action and used [Flight], swiftly moving to stand in front of Menas.
The elder dragon naturally sensed his master’s approach.
“Master!” He roared, slightly furious. “You promised!”
Shye frowned.
However, he continued his swift ascent, not daring to stop as it might mean the death of his strongest dragon.
He refused to let the opportunity granted by the gods and goddesses go to waste.
“I promised I wouldn’t intervene in you killing them, but I never promised that I wouldn’t step in if it seemed like you would lose.” He sternly replied.
Unfortunately, someone like Menas would never appreciate being saved by his master; he would much rather die in battle.

“SHYE CROWLEY!!” the elder flame dragon roared, his voice reverberating with fury and defiance, even startling the Wind Dragon Emperor. “If you dare intervene, I swear to snuff out my own life, even if you manage to save me. I will either return to your side and follow you until your final breath as an emperor or die trying to become one myself. Don’t you dare interrupt my ascent… Puhaahk!!”
The long, furious reply drained Menas, who was barely holding on, causing him to spit out a mouthful of blood.
The frown on Shye’s face deepened.
Menas always meant what he said, and Shye knew that even if he tried to save his tame, it would be pointless— the unappreciative bastard would simply take his own life.
Still, though Shye found it difficult to relate to the absurd pride inherent in dragons, he could somewhat understand Menas’ unwavering resolve.
After all, he, too, had shown that same level of resolve when he carried his sick little sister on his back, searching for a mythical hermit in the beginner adventurer zone, uncertain whether the hermit truly existed.
It was just that their goals differed.
Menas would rather die than be stuck as an elder dragon for life, just as he would rather die than let his little sister perish without trying to save her.
Realizing it was futile to convince the elder fire dragon, Shye descended, clicking his tongue:
“Tch, you dumb dragon…I still need you to lead my army, so you better return alive.”
Due to the situation, this was the only help Shye could offer his tame: motivation.
Unbeknownst to him, his words had just secured the loyalty of the most troublesome dragon to ever live, igniting Menas’ passionate heart.
“Hahaha! Very well, master. Since you’re holding up your end of the deal, I’ll do the same. Just watch me till the end, bear witness to my resolve!” the elder fire dragon laughed.
Zephyrus hadn’t personally faced a challenger in a long time.
Now, with a significant portion of his army lost, the emperor felt utterly drained.
All he wanted was for all of this to come to an end.
“I’ve had enough of your nonsense, fire dragon. This ends now!” Zephyrus roared as a massive magic circle materialized above him, enveloping his body in whirling wind cutters.
He then charged at his barely surviving opponent without hesitation.
Unwilling to be outdone, Menas flew shakily, his entire body covered in flames.
Shye frowned at the sight.
From the looks of it, his tamed beast was on the verge of defeat, the flickering fire surrounding its body growing weaker and more unstable by the second.
Menas seemed resolute, intent on going down in a blaze of literal flames.
Meanwhile, Zephyrus shamelessly felt proud of his impending triumph, believing that after this final clash, he would’ve successfully defended his throne once more from the toughest of challengers, unconsciously acknowledging the elder fire dragon before him.
Though unstable, Menas charged forward with ferocious intensity, the flames within him roaring fiercely, perhaps for the final time.
