Chapter 853: Emperor’s Introduction
At the skies of the partially burnt Windswept Plains—the former territory of the now deceased Wind Dragon Emperor, Zephyrus, a flight of around forty dragons of varying species flapped their wings.
Leading the flight was a horrifying thirty-seven-meter-tall dragon with deep vermillion scales.
After his ascension to his fiery imperial throne, Menas had become more obedient to Shye, fulfilling his end of the deal.
With his newfound intelligence, he was able to realize that a human’s lifespan was way shorter than that of a dragon’s.
Even if he had served Shye for a hundred years, it would have been nothing more than a fleeting moment, passing in the blink of an eye for a Dragon Emperor like him.
Temporary servitude in exchange for everlasting ascension was not a bad deal.
Since Menas had ascended, a little over three months had passed, which he used to accompany his master in tracking and subduing dragons.
Young, mature, elders—everyone was a target, including his favorite—dragon emperors.
The recently ascended Fire Dragon Emperor, who was even larger than the mighty Firindroth by a great deal, had long wanted to test the limits of his powers.
Hence, whenever he had the chance, he suggested that they target the domain of another emperor.
He would then fight the emperor to the death while the emperor’s flight gets subdued by his master.
It was the perfect plan.
While the two of them engaged dragons in the sky, Shye’s black mare—who proved to be an exceptional sparring partner for Menas—rampaged across the ground, invading the territories of other overlords.
She greedily consumed their cores after killing the overlords and their underlings, though she refrained from devouring the overlords’ corpses, abiding by Shye’s instructions.
The corpses were naturally for Nookie.
Over the past three months, Shye, with Menas’ help in locating dragons faster, managed to tame a total of 200 dragons.
As a result, he now had 70 elder dragons, 180 mature ones, and 100 young ones.
At this rate, although difficult, it might be possible to achieve his goal of 500 dragons by battle day.
Nonetheless, he was determined to amass at least 400 dragons, and with his current count at 350, he might even surpass that goal within the two months he had remaining.
Although he had to return to the main headquarters for two weeks due to the operation simulation and a certain exciting event Ian had informed him about, he still had a month and a half left from today.
Of course, a terrifying flight of more than fifty dragons would immediately be reported to the WAA, so Shye made sure that each time he subdued around forty dragons, his first wind dragon, Aeolus, would lead the dragons from the Windswept Plains to the hidden ogre clan cave.
This allowed Shye and Menas to continue their search for more dragons in other death zones.
While it cost them a few days, it was an unavoidable step, as Shye couldn’t risk his dragon army being discovered before the battle day.
For another week, Shye continued locating domains with Menas, subduing dragons, and slaughtering emperors.
His Fire Dragon Emperor’s might was unmatched, allowing them to obtain a total of five dragon emperor corpses—including Zephyrus’
He managed to add twenty more dragons in that short period before heading back to the cave himself to gift the gathered corpses to Nookie.
The little necrollin, while outstandingly smart for a mere monster, was ultimately a puppeteer who loved corpse puppets.
After obtaining the Dragon Emperor corpses from Shye, Nookie jumped up and down in pure joy, even generously praising Menas, calling him a remarkably strong dragon.
It was as though the past grudges had never existed.
Of course, Menas, who relished having his strength praised, also let bygones be bygones, no longer finding the arrogant little imp as hateful as before.

He even secretly acknowledged Nookie’s exceptional capabilities, despite his small size.
Shye was naturally pleased that his tames were finally getting along.
After all, they would be comrades-in-arms in the upcoming war, not enemies.
With five additional Dragon Emperors, including the two Nookie already possessed—Firindroth and the Mutated Earth Dragon Emperor—along with seven overlords Zeth had slain and the Stygian Manticore corpse, the little imp’s combat strength surged dramatically.
Though Nookie would need to work hard to master controlling his new corpses simultaneously, he had just under two months to do so.
Given his talent and mastery over corpse puppets, it shouldn’t be too difficult.
Meanwhile, the elder dragons—feeling the presence of an emperor close to them—dropped their tasks and immediately gathered outside the cave.
This naturally included Tarintus, who was flabbergasted at the sight of Menas.
“M-Menas, you managed to ascend?!” he roared in utter disbelief.
Hearing the voice of his old rival, the former elder fire dragon, now an emperor, turned his head and gazed down mightily at Tarintus, who stood barely twenty meters tall.
“HAHAHAHAHA! Thunder Dragon, your weak will and feeble determination only fueled my hunger for ascension. Knowing that most of our kind are like you, I was certain I had a chance despite my repeated failures. With a little help and trust from the master, I, Menas, finally managed to ascend.” Menas laughed proudly.
“Now that you are my underling, I will no longer quarrel with you, but you must obey my orders in the upcoming battle. Defy me, and there will be consequences. I will not be lenient with insubordination.”
Tarintus naturally had no response this time.
Not only because he had indeed been defeated by Menas, but also because he sensed no hostility from his old rival anymore—meaning his arrogant words were spoken out of pure joy and pride.
Despite his loss, the elder thunder dragon felt mostly happy for his unwavering rival.
He was glad that the relentless bastard’s efforts finally paid off.
Of course, the logical Tarintus had no intention of defying Menas, as it would be both foolish and unnecessary to cause trouble for his master.
Being the right-hand man of such an anomaly of an emperor didn’t seem too bad.
Furthermore, given Menas’ colossal size, he was far from a typical Dragon Emperor.
With someone like him leading, Tarintus was certain their flight would dominate the skies, making other dragon clans tremble at the mere mention of their names.
Of course, that would only come to pass once their current master perished and they were free to return to the wild.
