Chapter 854: Spoiling the Little Sister After a Long Time
The next two and a half weeks had been surprisingly peaceful for both the Kirov Unit and the Black Dawn Unit.
With Shye managing to return just yesterday, the Black Dawn Unit is in high spirits, confident that nothing would happen even if Cobra dared cause trouble again.
While the Cobra elites surprisingly didn’t dare ask for sparring matches anymore since the day Viper intervened, they often came by to weirdly observe the Kirov elites’ training.
But of course, as long as they didn’t cause trouble, Shye wouldn’t care about them.
He cared more about Maia’s training than anything else.
She was, after all, two years younger than them, and although extremely talented in combat, her arsenal of skills should be rather limited.
Hence, the first thing Shye did upon his return was assess his little sister’s skill panel using [Appraisal], frowning when he discovered that her strongest skills were only of the [Rare]-tier.
The fact that she had managed to force him to move and even wound him lightly was a testament to her extraordinary combat talent.
Unbeknownst to Maia, her big brother was already analyzing her skills from the corner of the training hall, scrolling through scout skills to find ones that would complement her extraordinary combat sense and fearless fighting style.
It took quite a while, but Shye managed to find some.
In total, he purchased seven [Common]-tier skills, four [Uncommon]-tier skills, two more [Rare]-tier skills, one [Unique]-tier skill, and one [Epic]-tier skill for a total of seven hundred thousand points.
The [Common]-tier skills included basic scout abilities like [Shadow Clone], [Lacerate], and other low-cooldown skills that Maia could use to eliminate weaker opponents and outwit stronger ones.
Of course, Shye also gave Maia the [Stoic] skill to significantly enhance both her chances of victory and survival.
He believed that, in his little sister’s hands, the skill would shine not only as a defensive ability but also as an offensive one.
While the [Uncommon]-tier ones were merely there to pad the numbers, they could be used to create specific chaotic situations for Maia to thrive in.
As for the [Rare]-tier skills, Shye gave her a last-resort ability once used by Ian’s late lover, [Shadow Dance], as well as a skill used by Ian himself, [Shadow Slaughter].
With four [Rare]-tier skills in his little sister’s arsenal, Shye was confident that Maia could hold her own even against formidable opponents like Hawkin Guard Captain Balkan and WAA Guard Captain Targon.
However, her victory would still be up to how she would actually fight such battles.
Nonetheless, with a [Unique]-tier skill and an [Epic]-tier skill as her trump cards, she would have a high chance of prevailing—something she needed to be capable of as a Black Dawn Unit Scout Squadron Captain.
Her [Unique]-tier skill, [Dark Illusion Domain], enhanced the capabilities of every clone, mirage, and phantom she summoned while simultaneously making the surroundings extremely dark and improving her ability to see in such an environment.
Additionally, it weakened her opponent’s night-vision capabilities, regardless of whether they possessed such a skill or not.
The only drawback was the rather small size of the domain compared to other domains, only stretching at a fifteen-meter radius.
Furthermore, the domain posed challenges not only for her opponents but also for her allies.
She alone could thrive within its confines.
Lastly, for the [Epic]-tier skill, Shye initially wanted to give Maia the same one as he and Shirley had, the [Nightfall Reaper].
However, his little sister’s strength attribute was simply too low.
It was hard for her to guarantee a kill like how the skill could in Shye and Shirley’s hands, despite it doubling her strength attribute, though it would certainly be faster in her hands.
Nonetheless, Shye felt it wasn’t the right fit, so he decided to diligently scroll through the [Epic]-tier skills of both warriors and scouts before finally settling on [Throat Devourer].
The skill had the [Unblockable] status for five whole seconds, similar to Siegfried’s [Uncommon]-tier [Ethereal Sword].
However, the latter only had the status for 0.5 seconds upon activation.

On the other hand, [Throat Devourer] had a horrifying additional effect: if it wounded the neck area, regardless of the size or depth of the wound, there was a fifty-percent chance of instantly taking the person’s life.
The fact that the skill could only be dodged, not blocked, added to its terrifying nature.
It was the bane of tough warriors like Balkan and Targon.
Of course, Shye still wanted to purchase more skills for his little sister to further ensure her safety in the war, especially since, as a squadron captain leading her own team, there would be times when she and her squadron would be tasked to separate from the main force of the Black Dawn Unit to perform assassination tasks or reconnaissance objectives.
After purchasing all the skills and selecting the option to turn them into skill books, Shye walked towards Maia.
“Maia, come with me for a bit,” he said, successfully capturing his little sister’s attention.
Of course, she happily did so.
Shortly after, the siblings arrived in a private, empty room where Shye retrieved all the skill books from his inventory and laid them out on the small desk in the center.
“B-Big brother, this is?” Maia asked stutteringly, overwhelmed by the sheer number of skill books in front of her.
“What else? It’s for you.” Shye replied with a smile.
“B-But isn’t this too much? T-This is unfair for others, no?”
“Hmph, what are you even saying? You’re my little sister, so of course, I’ll spoil you. Besides, I guarantee none of them would complain if they found out, as I’ve already given them skill books too.” Shye snorted in response before continuing: “Your arsenal of skills is just too narrow. In a war, it’s better to have lots of low-cooldown skills and a few high-tier trump cards.”
“Here are seven [Common]-tier skills, four [Uncommon]-tier skills, two [Rare]-tier ones, a [Unique]-tier domain skill, and an [Epic]-tier killing strike as your new trump cards.”
The flabbergasted little sister could only stare in awe as her big brother not only doubled but even tripled her skill arsenal in a single day.
With a cute gulp, she stepped closer to examine each skill book.
