Chapter 862: The Monsters Of The Black Dawn
Sanada knew that Hale would never prioritize his own life.
Hence, the unfolding scene at the WAA Main Headquarters was rather absurd, as it would be impossible for such a massive force of agents to band together and defend the head director’s office.
The current pre-programmed situation was simply for testing purposes; they still had two more simulation runs in the coming weeks anyway.
The old terrorist leader, however, didn’t expect that despite going out of his way to program such a situation to occur, he wouldn’t be able to watch the fight he wanted to see the most.
Knowing it would be unwise to wait for the WAA agents to take the fight to their ranks, Shye signaled for Shirley, David, and Maia to charge with him.
Maverick’s strategic mind immediately understood his son’s plan, quickly giving the order to his spellcaster squadrons to cover their charge.
This quickly proved to be the correct course of action, as projectiles flew towards Shye and the others almost as soon as they charged forward.
Slightly outnumbered in terms of ranged squadrons, Shye, Shirley, Maia, and David had to deal with a few spells and arrows on their own.
With their skills, defending themselves from a few remaining projectiles wasn’t too difficult.
Soon, the Black Dawn four arrived within striking distance, but they couldn’t inflict even the slightest damage on the defenders’ ranks, as all five heroes, nine titled adventurers, and fourteen champions moved to intercept them.
Meanwhile, the WAA forces kept three titled adventurers and four champions free, ready to ambush Maverick if an opportunity arose.
Contrary to Sanada’s expectations, however, it was not Shye but Shirley who faced off against Alexander Aphelion.
This was naturally Shye’s idea.
He planned to utilize the simulation practice to see whether Shirley had a chance of keeping the Yon Augennian scout hero at bay.
If it turned out that she could, he would be free to go on an unhindered rampage.
Shye had no plans of intervening in Shirley and the simulated Alexander’s duel.
If Shirley loses, then so be it.
Either way, it would prove to be a valuable experience, as he could make the necessary adjustments in the next simulation practice.
Shye himself took on four heroes, three titled adventurers, and six champions, who positioned themselves as if they were hunting an apex monster.
Meanwhile, both his little sister and David were each surrounded by three titled adventurers and four champions.
It seemed like a grim situation for the commander and three captains of the Black Dawn Unit.
The face-off between the Black Dawn Unit leadership and the WAA agents ignited the battle, as the warriors and scouts of both armies charged forward with ear-splitting war cries.
Maverick himself charged with his men.
After all, staying behind would mean giving the seven free agents a chance to ambush him.
With thousands of his elites at his side, the WAA agents would need to tread more carefully, as the combat prowess of his elites and Vice Commander was no joke.
The next moment, Shye charged at one of the warriors encircling him—a fairly renowned Yon Augennian champion, and almost took his life with a single casual swing of his greatswords.
If not for the champion suddenly using a life-saving talisman to shield himself from a lethal attack, he would have suffered far worse than a few broken bones and a moderately deep cut.
Shye didn’t go all-out yet, though.
His eyes glanced sideward from time to time to observe how Shirley fared against the simulated Alexander Aphelion.
It quickly became apparent, however, that Shirley was slightly winning, leaving the old man wide-eyed at the unexpected surprise.

Was this lady going easy on her opponent—Aziel Adrammelech—in the Heroes’ Banquet?
Had she always been this strong, or had she only developed such combat prowess recently?
These were the questions that flooded the old terrorist leader’s mind, pleasantly surprised that there was someone other than Ian Izanagi who could hold their own against Alexander.
Unfortunately, Sanada didn’t have the luxury to indulge in his thoughts, as his trump card suddenly began to step things up after obtaining the information he needed from Shirley and Alexander’s fight.
Now, Shye’s goal was to see how quickly he could eliminate his opponents.
Could he do it before his father fell?
The time attack challenge had already begun, and Shye had lost valuable time watching Shirley’s battle, so he quickly got to work the next moment.
To Sanada’s surprise, his trump card suddenly returned one of his greatswords to the system’s inventory and drew out an enormous black shield, transforming him into a defense-type warrior.
‘Oh? Right…the lad could do that.’ the old man thought inwardly.
Fireballs, wind cutters, icicle spears, and howling arrows once again flew towards Shye, but he was quickly able to easily defend against them with the massive black shield in his left arm.
A small cloud of wind and dust then billowed the next moment as Shye suddenly disappeared.
Only the Yon Augennian archer hero was able to barely follow his movements.
As a result, his target, the Yon Augennian warrior champion he was able to wound earlier, was slashed in half before the man could even realize what happened.
The archer hero tried to help, but unfortunately, he wasn’t quick enough.
Shye still had ample time to block his barrage of arrows after killing the warrior.
With 900 points in agility, only the archer hero could keep up with him, leading to a one-sided slaughter where the renowned titled adventurers and champions of Yon Augenn were killed brutally, without ever knowing how.
The heroes, the archer hero in particular, tried to intervene, his eyes bloodshot as he launched barrages of elemental mana arrows, hoping to wound Shye as he killed one of their comrades.
Unfortunately, it seemed futile.
Their enemy had long surpassed the limits of the human body.
All three titled adventurers and champions perished with regrets, their life-saving items still in hand, unable to activate them in time before they lost their lives.
In less than twenty seconds, only the four heroes were left in front of him.
