Chapter 865: The Final Boss
A blinding ray of light suddenly illuminated the dark, eerie metallic hallways, briefly casting light upon thousands of people.
However, they would have much preferred the dimly lit atmosphere from before.
The light, after all, had just claimed hundreds of lives and punched a horrifying, medium-sized hole in the wall.
One could only imagine what had happened to those caught in its path.
In an instant, hundreds of elites, along with a few captains—including Maia—found themselves in the waiting room, where thousands more elites awaited the end of the simulation operation.
The last thing Maia saw before arriving was a blinding flash.
The next thing she knew, she was in a corner of the enormous function hall with metallic walls.
Beside her were people she recognized as having been positioned close to her in the simulation, most of them standing behind her.
Maia puffed her cheeks and lightly clenched her fists in frustration.
She had just died, hadn’t she?
‘Great, now Big Bro will give me an earful later…’ she thought to herself.
While Shye would certainly give his little sister ‘a few reminders’ later, he was currently more preoccupied with the power of that blinding ray of light.
Had he not witnessed it from a different angle, he might have struggled to survive such an attack himself.
However, his chances were better than most, thanks to his trusty Impious Origin Belt and its skill, [Barrier of the Condemned].
With a single thought, he could activate it, generating a powerful barrier that would either shield him completely from an attack or weaken it enough for his inhumanly tough body to withstand the remaining force.
As long as he stayed focused, he should be impossible to kill with a single powerful attack.
Nonetheless, with the simulated old snake resuming the final battle, the Commanders and capable Vice Commanders advanced, some—like Chaos—circling to flank the lone opponent.
Unfortunately, Dweezel wasn’t easy to outwit.
The programmed version of the old snake quickly stepped back, positioning himself directly in front of the Black Dragon Gate.
This effectively reduced the area he needed to defend by a full 180 degrees.
Now, there was no need for Dweezel to worry about his back.
A giant, indestructible barrier then appeared in front of him, blocking every attack without fail.
The commanders—Chaos, Tigren, Feng, and Shye—did their best to destroy the translucent golden barrier, hacking and slashing with daggers and swords.
However, only Shye managed to create a small crack in the barrier.
Unfortunately, even though Chaos and the other commanders and vice commanders wanted to, it wasn’t easy to capitalize on the crack, as the protective dome counterattacked with different types of projectiles, each based on the weapon used by the attacker.
Sundering weapons would generate a golden slash mark, and piercing attacks would unleash a focused ray of golden light, similar to—but much thinner than—the one that hit Maia earlier.
On the other hand, blunt attacks were countered with an octagonal projectile, matching the weight and power of the impact the barrier received, while spells were returned as blast-type golden projectiles.
Moreover, the stronger the attack, the stronger the projectile that would fire back.
To make matters worse, the golden half-spherical dome regenerated at a moderate rate, further complicating their efforts.
‘Tch, at this rate, multiple attackers who don’t even have the capability to pierce the crack I create will only make things more difficult for us…’ Shye thought, inwardly clicking his tongue.

Even as a mere simulation, the old snake was proving difficult to kill.
The golden, translucent dome’s terrifying counterattacks momentarily halted the battle, stopping even the bull-headed commanders from attacking recklessly, as they, too, could lose their lives if they attacked irresponsibly.
‘It’s better this way, though…’
It was, after all, better to always prepare for the worst.
Who could say? Maybe the real one would be easier to kill than this damned overpowered simulation.
“Alright, alright, everyone, calm down,” a familiar, playful voice suddenly sounded, snapping everyone out of their frustrating thoughts and capturing their attention.
Chaos then sauntered in front of everyone, wearing a carefree smile with his hands clasped behind his back.
The commander even dared to unhesitatingly expose his back to the simulated old snake and his barrier.
Seeing such a great opportunity dangling in front of him, the Dweezel simulation—fond of such ratty attacks—controlled the barrier, firing a golden slash mark he could have used earlier but had held onto for moments like this.
He hoped to capitalize on Chaos’ carelessness, aiming to kill the terrorist commander with a single powerful attack that combined the mighty Commander Tigren’s power and speed.
Unfortunately, the sneaky attack was dodged with a mere playful spin from Chaos, almost like a ballerina—his hands raised to form a heart shape above his head.
“BAHAHAHA!” the commander laughed uproariously. “I knew you’d do that, you smelly old rat. Nice try, but you’ll need more than that to take down the almighty Commander Chaos of Hadean Varsa.”
Chaos then turned around to face his comrades once more.
“Okay, everyone, as you’ve probably guessed by now, attacking like mindless idiots will only make things more difficult for us. How about this? You all stay back and watch the show while Commander Black Dawn and I brutalize this old bag of skin and bones. Great deal, right?”
It indeed sounded like a great deal, but not to a few of the old-timers.
“Hmph! You dare exclude us, Chaos?!” roared the prideful Tigren, with the other old-timer, Commander Feng, chiming in shortly after:
“We’ve proven ourselves time and again, yet you trust this green mango more than us. I’m disappointed in you, Chaos!”
However, Chaos, who was currently being pressed by two of his comrades, seemingly didn’t care at all, though he pretended to.
With an exaggerated motion, he placed his hand above his eyebrows, as if searching for someone, before exclaiming in ‘utter disbelief’:
“WHAT?! WHO DARES UNDERESTIMATE THE MIGHTY COMMANDERS TIGREN AND FENG?! TELL ME WHO THE BASTARD IS, AND I’LL CUT HIS THROAT!”
The two old heads were naturally infuriated.
But before they could rage their hearts out, Chaos continued:
“I would never dare do such a thing! All I wanted was to test this green mango. Is he a reliable ally, or is he just all hype? Everyone wanted to know, right?”
