Chapter 870: Performance Review (3)
From an aerial perspective, it finally became clear to a smart and observant few how the Chaos Unit fought.
They were like packs of wolves on the battlefield.
With a team of seven elites—two warriors, a scout, a priest or priestess, two mages, and an archer—they advanced.
One of the warriors—either a shielder or someone wielding a brute-strength-type weapon—along with the scout, acted as ‘herders,’ marking the borders and targets of their respective groups.
They also monitored the targets of other groups, ensuring that each team would only worry about their own targets as they advanced.
It didn’t matter if the target included multiple individuals.
What mattered was that the targets were clustered together—a task entrusted to the unit’s powerful warriors.
With swings of their weapons or shields, they grouped their team’s targets, bombarding them with area-of-effect projectiles once the targets were close enough to one another.
The second warrior of each team—charging just a few meters ahead of the spellcasters—then served as both a guard for the team’s ranged members and a finisher, eliminating those who survived the bombardment.
Of course, a single team wouldn’t always be able to eliminate all their targets, and small groups of two, three, or even four would often survive.
It then became the responsibility of the teams behind them to identify these stragglers as their new targets and eliminate them using the same tactic.
This approach, employed by the Chaos Unit in small-scale skirmishes, consistently confused their enemies, who couldn’t comprehend why they were suddenly being ignored after being focus-fired.
Before the stragglers could react, the next team had already dispatched them.
This strategy, however, was only effective in small-scale battles where the defenders were caught off guard and unable to form organized defensive lines in time.
In large-scale army confrontations where the Chaos Unit couldn’t rely on surprise and chaos, they reverted to standard formations: warriors at the front, with archers, mages, and priests positioned behind them.
Meanwhile, scout squadrons flanked the enemy, targeting and assassinating captains and commanders.
Commander Chaos and his elites had mastered both ways of fighting, making him the most notorious among Hadean Varsa Commanders.
His WAA bounty had long surpassed a million gold coins.
For a moment, even the Black Dawn elites were mesmerized by the adaptability of the Chaos Unit, their awe deepening as the unit’s elites wiped out the renowned Hawkin Guards in under five minutes upon reaching the Hawkin Mansion.
The appearance of the Soul Warriors made everyone frown, though.
Standing at an average height of six feet eight inches, the towering, extremely muscular warriors exuded a suffocating sense of suppression with just a glare from their glowing purple eyes.
Although their adamantite-tier armor was adorned with golden linings, experienced fighters saw them as monstrous creations rather than noble warriors.
To the untrained eyes of the public, however, they appeared as the ultimate defenders of justice.
If not for their limited numbers—only a few hundred—the Chaos elites might have felt nervous about engaging such monsters.
After all, herding them with their usual skirmishing strategy seemed impossible, and grouping into standard formations would only expose the Chaos elites as a larger, more vulnerable target.
Nonetheless, Commander Chaos’ underlings were no pushovers.
Some of them could even fight and defeat a Soul Warrior one-on-one.
Hence, despite the unsettling first encounter, the Chaos Unit was able to dismantle and wipe out the Soul Warriors all the same, prompting cheers from the crowd.
With their victory, they finally entered the main entrance to the Hawkin Group’s headquarters, located within the room protected by the Soul Warrior Unit.
To the crowd’s disappointment, the recording of the Chaos Unit ended there.

They wanted more.
However, none of them dared complain, as the next recording to play was from the Feng Unit.
No one wanted trouble from the most inflexible and bull-headed member of the geezer trio.
As everyone expected, old Feng’s strategy—a tale as old as time—was as boring as ever.
They advanced even more carefully and cautiously than the Grover Unit.
After a few minutes, someone even began snoring, having fallen asleep, though it didn’t last as the snoring female elite was hastily woken up by her comrade, who feared that old Feng would cause a ruckus and accuse them of disrespect.
It turned out to be the correct decision, as Commander Feng would’ve sought them out had the disrespectful snoring continued.
Except for a select few from strong units who weren’t afraid of the old commander’s retaliation, almost everyone was forced to watch the Feng Unit’s recording out of fear.
Fortunately, such a boring fighting style had fewer highlights, meaning the recording was short.
As his unit’s recording ended, however, Feng, like Grover, felt pleased.
He believed his unit had done everything perfectly, impressively losing only fifty men.
Unfortunately, while the old man and the other commanders acknowledged his skill in leading his troops, the elites did not, as his recording was rather lackluster compared to those of the Cobra, Alicia, Kirov, and Chaos Units.
Commander Tigren met the same fate as the others, with his unit’s boring fighting style drawing little attention.
By the end of their recordings, the three geezers were fuming, dissatisfied with the crowd’s reactions, believing most were too ignorant to appreciate their impeccable skills in commanding troops.
Chaos and Cobra chuckled at the three old fools’ displeasure, finding amusement in their constant anger.
Finally, the dull moments ended as the highlight of the operation unfolded—the recording of the Maverick and Black Dawn Unit’s fierce battle against the WAA and nearly all of their agents.
However, only those who had attacked the WAA Main Headquarters knew what truly transpired.
Everyone else was in for a huge surprise.
Soon, the scene where Maverick, Shye, and their elites, stood atop the backs of various flying creatures played out.
Their entrance alone was enough to excite the crowd, drawing everyone’s attention.
It didn’t take long for the scene of their meteor-shower-like descent to unfold next, eliciting cheers from the audience, even though it was just a regular part of the operation.
The Maverick and Black Dawn elites hadn’t even done anything yet, but the crowd was already buzzing with excitement.
The geezer trio could only snort in jealousy.
