Chapter 876: Chicken Cobra
The battle was unexpectedly short.
However, it was far from unexciting for the onlookers, as most of them were cheering for Kirov and his men.
The geezer trio had long been annoying to everyone, and the crowd felt satisfied seeing them get a dose of reality.
Their old-school tactics no longer worked in this day and age.
Grover and Tigren could only watch in a mix of shame, fury, and disbelief. They wanted to blame Feng for his incompetence.
However, they knew they would only look like fools should they do so.
Their friendship and camaraderie with Commander Feng would also be put at risk.
In the end, the two old heads could only swallow the humiliation while clenching their fists.
Naturally, Feng himself was in a state of utter denial, finding it difficult to believe that his elites were decimated in less than twenty seconds.
‘Where did things go wrong?’
The old commander asked himself, replaying everything that happened over and over in his mind.
But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t find anything he could’ve done better.
Their formation was perfect!
Then it hit him: ‘Were his subordinates simply not strong enough? Should he have focused on enhancing their attributes and individual prowess instead of drilling formations over and over again?’
It seemed to be the only plausible explanation.
Otherwise, how could the Kirov elites, whose formations were nearly as chaotic as the Black Dawn Unit’s, have defeated them so easily?
It became clear that he had been training his men the wrong way.
Kirov was happy that he and his men were able to vent their frustration, but upon seeing the old commander, who was staring into space, he couldn’t help but feel bad for the old guy.
Feng was merely a product of his time; his only fault was failing to adapt to the modern ways of combat.
In the past, top-of-the-line training machines and peak-grade training tonics weren’t as effective as the ones developed in recent years, so orderly formations more or less worked better than pure might.
Elites then simply weren’t as strong as the ones today.
Hence, when faced with the power of Kirov’s men, who trained their raw physical and mental attributes most of the time using the most advanced machines and most effective tonics, they were easily destroyed.
Commander Feng and Vice Commander Zhao slowly left the scene with their elites in tow.
They couldn’t bear to stay another second in the main headquarters.
The old man naturally knew that such a loss was tough to digest, so he allowed Feng and his men to leave, as he was done with the announcements anyway.
He could only hope that the old commander and his subordinates would make it through these dark times for their unit.
Still, as a responsible leader, he would ensure that old Feng remained loyal, keeping a close watch on their every move to prevent any bitter retaliation that might jeopardize his plans.
Unfortunately, not everyone felt bad for the geezer.
Chaos, for one, was inwardly laughing at the old man’s sad state, happy about the fact that Feng slapped himself in the face.
A sick bastard through and through.

Kirov, on the other hand, had no interest in kicking an old man while he was down.
He simply left the scene, the satisfied smile on his face now gone.
Sadly, not everyone was concerned about the depressed old man’s well-being. Some of the elites even dared to whisper among themselves, despite Grover and Tigren still being present at the scene.
The boring old man’s loss, however, didn’t linger for too long in the minds of the elites.
After all, the main event was next.
“Hey, Viper, where’s your commander?” Chaos asked.
“Reporting to Commander Chaos,” Viper responded respectfully. “Commander Cobra has informed me that he’s on his way and intends to challenge Squadron Captain Seira of the Black Dawn Unit to a duel.”
“What? Lil Seira? Why her? Wasn’t the duel supposed to be between commanders?” the instigator commander asked in a mix of disappointment and confusion.
What the hell was this main event?
The initial plan was to hold three duels: the Cobra Unit’s strongest captain, Hylos, against Squadron Captain Seira of the Black Dawn Unit; then Vice Commander Viper versus either Vice Commander Izanagi or Squadron Captain Shirley; and finally, Commander Cobra against Commander Black Dawn.
Unfortunately, since the old man only allowed one duel, he expected the duel between commanders to come through, at least.
Did Cobra chicken out after watching Black Dawn’s recording?
Chaos could understand, though, as even he wouldn’t want to fight Shye if possible.
Despite his nonchalant and cheerful exterior, he was also shaken by Commander Black Dawn’s might, though there was also a sense of relief and delight in his heart, knowing they were comrades rather than enemies.
He just wanted to see Cobra humiliated like old Feng, was that truly too much to ask?
Seira’s heart began to race after hearing Viper’s words.
‘That damned petty and cowardly commander! Was he still angry at me?! Why doesn’t he dare face my boss instead?!’ the midget thought inwardly, utterly indignant.
She just murdered Cobra’s pride and ego with her insults a few months ago.
Yet, she treated it as nothing more than a minor disagreement, unworthy of Cobra holding a grudge against her.
Truly built different.
Nonetheless, she wasn’t too worried, as she had faith that her boss wouldn’t allow her to be humiliated.
It wasn’t that she didn’t have a chance against Cobra; it was just that she wasn’t sure she could win even if she went all out.
Hence, she resolved that if her boss ordered her to fight, she would trust him and face Cobra.
If not, it would be for the best—though it would sting, as it would mean she might be weaker than the troublesome commander.
A few more moments later, Cobra entered the function hall once more, drawing everyone’s eyes over.
“Midget, I hope you remembered your insults a few months ago.”
