Chapter 878: Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Mosquito
In the end, due to the persistent requests of his agents, Hale had no choice but to let things continue.
The head director had a feeling that he was somehow helping Hadean Varsa achieve their goals.
However, no matter how hard he tried to utilize his brain, he couldn’t think of a single feasible goal the terrorist organization had, aside from intimidation.
If their objective was to instill fear in the hearts and minds of the WAA agents and adventurers all over the world by showing their commanders’ might, then Hale could roll with it.
‘Hmph, ineffective…’
The advantages simply outweigh the disadvantages, so why cancel the broadcast?
Little did Hale know, his intuition was spot on—though in a way he could never have imagined.
After all, how could he have guessed that Shye was farming system points?

“Heh, you’re good at pretending, at least, brat.” Cobra sneered as he began to circle Shye once more.
At this point, they’ve already exchanged five moves, and to his surprise, the four subsequent attacks were not as strong as the first one.
At least they didn’t make his innards churn and his arms numb.
Nonetheless, whenever he recalled that he had only been able to fight Shye on equal footing thanks to the soul corruption pill given to him by Viper, he would inwardly shiver.
It was hard for him to fathom how Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn had become so strong.
‘Was it because of the hero’s crest?’ he wondered.
If that were the case, he himself possessed the Hadean Varsa Commander Crest. Although it significantly shortened his lifespan, it at least allowed him to fight and grow as fast as—if not faster than—heroes.
“Hahahaha!”
A hearty laugh echoed across the halls; Shye couldn’t help but do so after hearing Cobra’s words.
It was clear that the bastard had felt his first attack but had grown arrogant, assuming Shye didn’t have another attack of equal power.
‘Unfortunately for you, I wasn’t even using a skill that time…’
Shye’s laugh irked Cobra to no end.
Before the commander even noticed, he was already charging toward Shye, his emotions getting the better of him once more.
Why couldn’t he get a reaction that would answer his questions from the damn brat?!
Footsteps echoed across the hall as Cobra sprinted across the space, brandishing his cutlass in a weird, soft manner.
The next moment, a five-meter-tall, red slash mark shot towards Shye, moving in an awkward, snake-like manner.
“Cobra Slash!” the commander exclaimed with pride.
This was a skill he had developed on his own.
If he were to create skill book copies and sell them, he believed it would be graded at least as high [Uncommon]-tier and would sell for around eighty to ninety thousand silver coins per copy.
The only issue with the skill is its power, as he found it difficult to add too much raw strength to a skill with a weird movement pattern.
The selling point of the skill, however, was the difficulty in defending against it.

Sure enough, just as Shye prepared to swat the skill away with a strike of his greatsword, it suddenly bobbed and weaved, evading his attack.
It then cleanly struck his chest with enough force to kill any Mithril-ranked adventurer or weaker, causing the hearts of those in the Black Dawn and Kirov Unit to sink, while those in the Cobra Unit rejoiced.
Cobra, on the other hand, didn’t waste time celebrating, quickly capitalizing on his initial attack.
He disappeared and reappeared in front of Shye, his cutlass ruthlessly aiming to decapitate Shye.
However, just inches before his attack landed, Cobra suddenly felt the world spin, the heavenly crisp sound of a palm hitting a sweet, wide-open, defenseless cheek echoing throughout the hall.
Before he knew it, he could feel a stinging sensation on the left side of his face.
The commander could also taste blood in his mouth.
“COMMANDER!!” exclaimed those from the Cobra Unit in unison.
Cobra tried to stand up quickly, but he fell back down. It was only on his second attempt that he managed to stand properly.
Nonetheless, he couldn’t focus as it seemed as though the world was shaking.
He was dazed.
A sneer then sounded from the other end of the dueling space.
“Heh, what the hell do you think you’re doing? Your attack felt like a mosquito bite, yet you thought it was your chance to finish me off? Talk about being lost in delusions…”
Cobra finally managed to recover his focus after hearing his opponent’s words, realizing that he was viciously slapped.
He was naturally furious.
However, he soon realized that he couldn’t treat Shye like the heroes from lower-ranked regions—perhaps not even like those from higher-ranked regions.
The brat was undoubtedly the strongest enemy he had faced so far.
“You bastard…how could you not be hurt?! Stop pretending!” he rebuked angrily.
Sure, Shye might not be as hurt as he expected, but he should have at least been wounded after taking such a clean hit, no?
Nine hundred points of vitality, however, was something a human should never be able to achieve, and this was what Cobra couldn’t understand and never will.
Such raw physical toughness made his skin more difficult to penetrate than even the scales and armors of apex monsters.
How could such a weird strike, that sacrificed power in exchange for mobility, have hurt Shye?
It didn’t even cut through his skin.
“Hahahaha! I see that my subordinate is correct. You are indeed a clown, Cobra.” Shye laughed once more, sighing annoyingly shortly after. “Sigh…why did I even take you seriously…”
“You bastard!!”
Goaded into attacking, Cobra once more charged with the most furious of looks on his face.
He looked so funny that Shye couldn’t help but stifle a laugh.
The angry commander hacked and slashed with his cutlass, his footwork still impressive despite his mind being clouded by overwhelming emotions.
His weapon glowed red one moment, black the next, with slash marks of varying colors occasionally shooting toward Shye.
It was an all-out assault that left his opponent “staggering” and “on the back foot”.
