Chapter 882: Woes of a Loyal Dog
Upon hearing Shye’s words, the commanders’ eyes widened in shock, utterly stunned by the sudden accusation.
Black Dawn’s words implied that Cobra was the mole.
They, too, were aware that there was still a high-ranking mole in the organization, but they found it difficult to believe that it was Cobra.
The deceased commander had every reason to help the organization and no reason to betray them.
Moreover, although he frequently bullied others, he did so openly, and his actions—along with his occasional restraint—suggested that he was genuinely concerned about the success of the organization’s operations.
He also never failed a single mission, especially the crucial ones.
With his position, he could have sabotaged those vital operations long ago, preventing Hadean Varsa from even reaching this point, if he had truly been a mole.
There was something wrong with the accusation and they couldn’t help but doubt it.
It was, however, very simple for Sanada to prove whether Shye’s claim was false or not.
After all, the still-fresh corpse in question was just in the corner of the room they were in.
It would be easy for the old terrorist leader and Chaos—who also dabbled a bit in soul arts due to his curiosity—to perform a few tests.
The two immediately got to work, reappearing beside Cobra’s corpse.
The old man then proceeded to retrieve a few handy tools, devices, and apparatuses from multiple void pockets, masterfully using them the next moment to inspect the dead body.
Minutes passed, and the frown on the old man’s face only deepened.
It didn’t take long for him to confirm the truth:
“Black Dawn’s claim is correct: the Hadean Varsa Commander’s Soul Contract has somehow been overwritten by another. However, it’s impossible to confirm the contents of the contract from mere vestiges.”
This time, all the commanders frowned heavily, feeling slightly disheartened.
Their morale couldn’t help but plummet.
How could the mole be one of their stronger commanders?
If one of the least suspicious individuals in the organization turned out to be a mole, who’s to say there aren’t more?
“T-Then does this mean Cobra was actually a mole?” Tigren asked, his face filled with worry.
Sensing the unease in the wavering hearts of his commander, Sanada clarified things:
“No, in fact, this only solidified our suspicions on who the mole is…”
A vivid holographic screen appeared before everyone, playing a recording of Cobra dragging Viper into a private room in anger.
It was unclear whether Cobra had intended to expose Viper.
However, the recording, along with his death, revealed to them the identity of the mole.
Suddenly, Sanada had an epiphany.
Did Cobra actually plan his death, knowing he wouldn’t be able to escape Viper’s grasp?
As everyone watched the recording, Chaos noticed the old man growing emotional again, so he gave him a reassuring tap on the shoulder and said, ‘I’ve thought about it too, geezer, but don’t worry. I’ve known Cobra for a long time. He’s not that smart. This was just a lucky coincidence for us.”
Chaos wasn’t entirely sure either.

However, based on Cobra’s temperament, it was more likely just a case of him throwing caution to the wind and dying as a result of being a sore loser.
Nonetheless, he at least provided one last value to the organization with his death.
After all, who’s to say he wouldn’t ruin their chances in the unsealing operation, especially under the horrifying pressure of a superior soul contract?
In fact, everyone in the room slowly realized that Cobra’s death had turned out to be a blessing.
It would have been chillingly dangerous for the entire organization to believe the mole had already been caught and disposed of—especially if they successfully captured Viper—only for Cobra to be forced to act according to the soul contract by the opposing side and sabotage the operation.
The fact that the most vital part of the Valenzia Strike Force’s operation—hiding Detain’s fragile core—had also been entrusted to the mole was another issue they needed to address.
With just a few weeks left until the actual operation day, Sanada and the commanders felt a heavy weight on their chests.
So little time, yet so much left to do…
A deep sigh, however, was enough for the old man to temporarily cast the weight away to the back of his mind.
‘For now, getting rid of the mole is the top priority.’ Sanada thought.
Meanwhile, at the function hall, a certain someone was growing restless.
“Viper had attempted multiple ways to escape the Hadean Varsa Main Headquarters.
By now, she was certain her identity had been uncovered.
Unfortunately, escape scrolls, return talismans, emergency escape talismans, and even spatial pockets were all ineffective.
The whole headquarters was on lockdown.
She hadn’t tried void portals yet, as she lacked the ability to create them.
After all, void skills were accessible only to a select few individuals capable of resonating with void energies.
‘F*ck it all! I should’ve left earlier!’ she cursed inwardly, regretting her decision to cling to the faint hope of staying until the announcement of the operation day.
Success would mean she could ultimately doom the terrorist organization to failure—a monumental achievement that might even overturn her fate of being denied her father’s position in the Hawkin Mansion solely because of her gender.
Sadly, the chances of such a thing happening were too slim after the dumb bastard, Cobra, went ahead and died—something she didn’t expect to happen.
Of course, Viper, too, knew that her greed got the better of her.
Her mind urged her to leave immediately after the connection with Cobra was severed, but her heart insisted she stay.
It was regrettably the latter she decided to listen to.
Viper had already sent a distress signal the moment emergency escape talismans failed to work.
She could only hope that somehow, her father would be able to bail her out on time.
‘I’ve been your loyal dog for the past few years. I’m also one of your strongest fighters… I at least deserve to be saved, don’t I?’
