Chapter 889: Siege of Valenzia (3)
“Izanagi, you scum! You could’ve been helping the world out, but instead, you succumb to darkness and promote chaos and destruction!” Elysia roared, both furious and disappointed at her former comrade.
The two had worked together on two missions in the past, and Ian Izanagi of the Nightfall Requiem was one of the comrades she liked most.
He wasn’t interested in idle chatter like her, and always aimed to complete missions as efficiently as possible, basically sharing similar principles with her when it came to mission execution.
Ian, unfortunately, was not interested in her justice talk, merely sneering at her in disdain.
“Heh, poor clueless dog. Keep wagging your tail for the WAA until your last breath. You’re only stalling the inevitable, while we— we fight for true justice.” the vice commander retorted. “Surrender, Eternal Frost. Otherwise, don’t blame me for not honoring past ties.”
…Said as if he truly cared…
It was all Shye’s order: “Don’t kill Elysia, Midnight Fang, Radiant Sentinel, or Piercing Zephyr.”
Alicia agreed to try her best, though she didn’t promise she’d be able to.
Unfortunately, someone like Elysia, who was more likely to be loyal to her duty to the bitter end, would never surrender.
“True justice? What nonsense are you spouting?! How dare you speak of justice with that filthy mouth?!” the mage heroine shot back in fury, her words accompanied by two massive icy shards that whistled through the air, aiming to impale Ian to the ground.
The vice commander said no more.
He couldn’t be bothered to explain, as he and his unit still needed to capture the WAA Valenzia Headquarters—and quickly.
Crouching with minimal movements and precise finesse to dodge the glacial projectiles, Ian dashed forward, dark shadows shaped like his own feet propelling him as he pursued Elysia, who hovered fifteen meters above the ground.
With the red cube gone, the Black Dawn elites swiftly destroyed the mana turrets that had suddenly sprung from hollow compartments within the walls of the establishments on Third and Fourth Street.
They then turned their attention to the WAA elite guard squadrons, numbering around seven hundred.
“Formation Three!” exclaimed a guard captain, commanding his men to turtle at the center of the wide streets.
Their mission was to delay the Hadean Varsa elite unit’s advance at all costs.
Mages and archers positioned themselves behind tight rows of shielders, each holding a spear in their right hand and an enormous tower shield in their left.
The ranged squadrons unleashed projectiles with reckless abandon, trusting the warriors to shield them from any retaliation.
Their opponents, on the other hand, had no such formations.
The only semblance of order in the ranks of the Hadean Varsa elites was the chaotic positioning of the spellcasters and archers behind the charging warriors and scouts.
The WAA Valenzia guards, however, knew better than to mock the notorious terrorists’ unorganized attack.
Banging their spears twice onto their shields, the WAA elite shielders summoned a tall, thick, translucent, silver barrier, preventing the Hadean Varsa elites from proceeding without first breaking through.
This [Rare]-tier chain skill was called [Citadel of Order], accessible only to those who swore loyalty to the WAA and their mission to maintain world order.
Anyone who learned it through illegal means, regardless of their identity, would be hunted relentlessly by WAA agents—a statement to the world that no one is above the law.
Even Dweezel didn’t dare teach the elites of his Hawkin Group, who operated from their underground headquarters, for fear of attracting unnecessary trouble.
The WAA had ears and eyes everywhere.
Who could say if they already knew of his group’s existence and were merely allowing it to persist as part of some larger plan—perhaps to use him and his forces in the future to maintain world order?
The old snake didn’t know, and he had no intention of testing the hegemon.
That said, while [Citadel of Order] was one of the spells reserved exclusively for those who vowed to maintain order, it wasn’t invincible.

Their formation would, in fact, collapse with a single casual blow from Shye.
But there was one problem: Shye wasn’t there.
“Hold fast, men of order! We shall not falter before the unholy scourges that dare invade our lands!” roared the guard captain commanding the elite squadrons defending Third and Fourth Street.
His passionate warcry gave the morale of his men a significant boost and ignited the fighting spirit in their hearts.
With Elysia behind them, why would they be scared of terrorists?
This was, after all, the moment they had been training for.
The mage heroine would’ve gazed proudly at her beloved city’s defenders had it not been for the approaching traitorous bastard.
“Frozen Shower!” Elysia exclaimed, conjuring an enormous blue magic circle beneath her that rained hundreds of tiny ice needles at Ian.
With her inborn talent, [Chantless Casting], she had no fear of assassins and was more than willing to engage them in duels—especially those she deemed scum infesting her world.
Ian was now one such individual, and Elysia would naturally smile with delight at the sight of him being struck by at least five of the ice needles before managing to dodge the rest.
‘Tch, it’s hard to get used to the timing of that instantaneous casting of hers…’ the vice commander inwardly clicked his tongue as he gracefully landed on the ground failing to reach his opponent.
“Vice Commander, we can’t afford to be stalled for this lo–”
“I know, don’t worry,” Ian said, rather rudely cutting off the words of one of his captains who once belonged to the Cobra Unit.
He was slightly getting pissed, as he, too, knows that they have to capture the Valenzia Headquarters, but the damned heroine in front of him was more slippery than he thought.
The “all high and mighty” expression on her face only served to infuriate him even more.
Without hesitation, Ian pulled a device from his spatial bag, activating it with a quick mana infusion.
The next moment, a purple dome appeared in place of the red cube, preventing everyone inside from using mana.
For a while, the spellcasters of the WAA defenders became useless.
Not for long, though, as Elysia and the WAA spellcasters immediately brought out a device of their own.
Covering the WAA elites in a small azure bubble, the device enabled them to use mana at the cost of cutting off their natural regeneration and reducing the effectiveness of mana potions by sixty percent.
Meanwhile, the Black Dawn Unit wasn’t affected by the dome due to their Hadean Varsa Crests.
Everyone was once again able to use their mana, and the battle inevitably resumed after a brief clash of inventions that more or less ended in a draw.
