Chapter 893: A Barely Successful Phase One
Heavy breathing sounded in the darkness, followed by an angry shout:
“Unhand me, filthy scourge!!”
Everyone was paralyzed by the biting, jet-black veil—except for the one who had summoned it.
Ian, knowing he had to finish things quickly, stopped holding back and activated one of his trump cards.
It was the very same domain skill Shye gave Maia.
However, Ian gained his through his own hard work, courageously purchasing it at a black market despite his status as a hero.
Had he been caught engaging in such shady acts, he would’ve undoubtedly been dismissed and faced appropriate punishment.
This bold decision proved wise, though, as it worked wonders for him when it mattered.
Now, the leader of the Valenzian opposition was in his hands.
But capturing Elysia alive had been far from easy.
Despite hiding in the chilling embrace of the shadows, the mage heroine showed great resilience, dodging five of his attacks through sharp senses alone.
In the end, Ian had to summon two clones to outwit her, barely managing to capture Elysia just as the dark veil dispersed, bringing her to his side.
“Lady Elysia!!” exclaimed the guard captains and a majority of the worried defenders in unison.
With the capture of their leader, their morale collapsed.
Ian, who had grown ruthless over the years, would’ve slaughtered all of them in cold blood had it not been for the instructions that they were not to kill those who would surrender.
So he gave them a chance:
“I’ve captured your leader.” the vice commander declared in a loud tone and a somewhat hasty manner.
The enemy reinforcements were fast approaching; Ian could even hear the rumbling sounds of their army’s furious march.
“If you surrender, we promise not to kill you and to keep Eternal Frost alive as well.”
The veterans among the WAA defender army knew that a terrorist’s words didn’t mean a damn thing—let alone a terrorist commander’s.
However, what could they do except comply?
Elysia was their region’s beloved hero.
As long as she was alive, there would be a chance to turn things around.
For now, they had to ensure her safety—at least until the reinforcements arrived.
Around a minute and a half later, the reinforcements finally appeared on the main street leading to the WAA Valenzia Headquarters.
However, what the three heroes, seven titled adventurers, and fourteen champions found made them frown deeply.
Behind the rows of prepared terrorists and the small fortifications around the gates were captured Valenzian WAA defenders, tied up and transported in small groups of two or three through a void portal—likely leading to one of Hadean Varsa’s headquarters.
Elysia Iceborne of the Eternal Frost was among them.
They arrived just a bit too late—by an extremely narrow margin—demonstrating how even a few seconds of delay could make a critical difference.
Had they been deployed earlier, the terrorist unit invading the WAA Valenzia Headquarters might have been surrounded and likely wiped out.

“Double time, men!” a WAA guard captain, seemingly from another region based on the insignia on their armor, exclaimed with a frown.
Unfortunately, this army of WAA reinforcements was met with a similar scenario to the one tasked to assist Elysia and her army.
The Valenzia City Hall had already fallen to the hands of the terrorists.
Similar scenes were happening all over the city, and Hadean Varsa’s Valenzia Strike Force was naturally elated and pumped at the consecutive victory reports from their comrades.
“Grover Unit has captured Valenzia City Hall.”
“My Hurkan elites have successfully taken control of Valenzia City Square. After the reinforcements dispersed, they can no longer teleport into the city using conventional means.”
“Black Dawn Unit has taken over the WAA Valenzia Headquarters, but we are currently under heavy fire.”
“Alicia Unit has a firm grip on the Valenzia Broadcasting Station. Enemy reinforcements have arrived and are currently engaging.”
However, this was just the beginning, and things nearly went south, barely staying on track with the plan.
Had it not been for Ian’s decisive decision to deploy Maia before they could capture the Valenzia Headquarters, Detain wouldn’t be anywhere near where it should be at this time.
The device’s carrier would also have faced a high risk of being intercepted and captured by the enemy’s third batch of reinforcements.
Nonetheless, they were able to pull through.
Although all four units were currently besieged by furious reinforcements, everyone was holding on, and quite well.
…For now.
The dragons, after wiping out the lesser guards, also came to help the Valenzia Strike Force, flying around and shooting elemental projectiles from the air.
This forced the nine heroes to make their moves and defend their troops from the winged monstrosities, allowing the besieged terrorist units some room to breathe.
However, it was clear to the WAA forces that time was on their side, and that the longer the battle went on, the more things would fall in their favor.
They weren’t in a rush at all.
Just the mithril to adamantite-ranked adventurers teleporting all over the city—volunteering out of a sense of duty and justice—was enough to eventually turn the tide in their favor.
The third batch of reinforcements soon arrived, boosting their confidence even further.
Eleven more heroes from various regions, along with fifteen titled adventurers and twenty-five champions, joined the fray.
This, of course, led the WAA forces to believe the battle was all but won, and that Valenzia would soon be reclaimed, despite the relentless trouble caused by the flight of dragons somehow tamed by the scummy terrorists.
Unbeknownst to them, this was exactly what the Valenzia Strike Force was aiming for: to draw lots of reinforcements from other regions and keep them in Valenzia City.
In the midst of the WAA forces’ internal celebration, a reddish dome that exuded an unholy aura suddenly appeared and shrouded the entire city.
Detain was activated.
The terrorist commanders quickly exploited the temporary confusion of the enemies, activating a multitude of one-time-use devices that caused a sudden emergence of numerous fortifications and buffs, strengthening their elites and the raiders from other organizations under the old man.
Before the WAA forces even realized what had happened, their opponents were already encased in a thick, seemingly impenetrable blue dome of protective barriers.
Mana turrets, which shot spine-chilling purple spears, were also suddenly and neatly arranged behind the terrorists.
Even the initially simple spiked metal walls became a formidable obstacle to break through due to the devices.
