Chapter 901: Food For Thought
The battle between terrorist elites and elite guards raged on.
However, there was a certain area near the eastern walls of the WAA Main Headquarters that seemed unaffected by the mayhem of combat and slaughter.
Cornered close to the wall of the enormous establishment was Shye, but there was not a single hint of panic on his face.
In fact, despite his current—what many would call “predicament”—he was fairly relaxed.
To his surprise, the WAA agents didn’t attack him immediately.
The heroes stepped aside and gave way for a young man.
“Crowley, it’s not too late. Come to our side. I know you, and I don’t know what those bastards did to make you fight for them, but I assure you, the WAA is a just organization. We will get to the bottom of this, and if you are proven innocent, you will be reinstated as a Valenzian Hero. The other former agents among your ranks will receive the same treatment.” said Rai Hou, extending his arms as if beckoning Shye to come to the light…the light which was the WAA.
“Rai Hou, we may have shared some experiences in the past, but that’s all they were. Don’t act like you know me on a deep level,” Shye replied coldly, unwilling to entertain such word games. “I know what I’m fighting for, and I won’t change allegiances. Soon enough, you’ll understand too.”
The next moment, he immediately sprang into action, knowing that time was on the enemy’s side.
Pulling out his black, [Legendary], adamantite-tier shield, Shye charged forward, summoning Murky and grabbing its enormous sword handle with his right hand.
“Tch, you’re a lost cause!” exclaimed Rai Hou as he quickly retreated behind Baradur and Targon.
Tough as his words were, Shye’s rather cryptic retort made his heart waver.
The young Yon Augennian champion was incredibly intelligent and could infer a few things from Shye’s words and the way he spoke.
From what he implied, he was fighting for a noble cause, while they—the WAA agents—were simply unaware of what was truly going on.
Or were they truly unaware?
Rai Hou couldn’t help but glance meaningfully at the two heroes in front of him with a hint of suspicion.
Despite being from different regions and having shared only one mission in the past, Rai Hou dared to claim that he understood Shye and his decent character better than the arrogant pricks in front of him.
Unfortunately, the young champion didn’t have the time to indulge himself in his thoughts.
“Rai Hou! What are you doing?! Quick! Let us go and help Lord Baradur, Lord Saorus, and Lord Targon!” exclaimed one of the veteran champions.
The middle-aged man jolted Rai Hou’s mind back to reality.
Soon, the young archer champion, too, joined the fray.
*CLANG!*
The clash of metal against metal echoed once more as Shye’s menacing greatsword struck Targon’s enormous white tower shield for the third time.
Unfortunately, unlike what happened in the simulation, the real version proved a bit tougher to defeat.
Needless to say, a single strike from Shye, which was backed by approximately a little over a thousand points of strength, instantly staggered the hulking guard captain.
With his tower shield already bent in half in just three hits, Targon gritted his teeth as he struggled to stabilize his footing.
‘Curses!! How is this guy so strong?!’ the guard captain thought inwardly.
He threw his unusable shield away and retrieved a new one from his spatial bag.
Meanwhile, Baradur Pentagon and Saorus Calamitas covered him.
After witnessing what happened to Targon, the former didn’t dare clash head-on with the ex-Black Dawn Hero, despite his combat style relying heavily on raw strength.

Instead, he waited for Saorus’ heavenly obliteration ray to force Shye to raise his shield before charging.
Baradur then brandished his greatsword—shrouded in a golden, immolating radiance—with unmatched ferocity.
His attack, fearsome as it was, unfortunately, couldn’t even make Shye stagger.
‘Sh*t!’ the hero cursed inwardly, realizing that he was within prime counterattacking distance.
Baradur jumped back as fast as he could.
Sadly, he couldn’t escape unscathed—something he didn’t realize until he failed to stand normally.
The Heavenly Sword hero fell sideways, a burst of pain making him scream in agony.
His left leg was gone.
Shye charged forward with a cold smile, replacing his shield with another greatsword, and slashing both toward the fallen hero after empowering them with a trusty [Power Slash].
Baradur was ready to crush one of his peak-tier protective talismans in hopes of saving his own skin.
Fortunately, he didn’t have to, as Targon suddenly appeared in front of him, wielding a white tower shield with a vivid blue cross insignia at its center—identical to the one the guard captain had lost just seconds ago.
A translucent white barrier then appeared, protecting both Targon and the grievously wounded hero behind him.
For a single second, that is…
As the edges of Shye’s greatswords made contact with the barrier, cracks immediately began to emerge, stemming from where both greatswords hit and extending endlessly.
Soon, the entire barrier shattered.
It exploded into hundreds of small mana shards.
As the edges of Shye’s greatswords struck the barrier, cracks immediately began to form, spreading from the point of impact and extending endlessly.
Soon, the entire barrier shattered.
It exploded into hundreds of small mana shards.
The rare-tier defensive skill, however, managed to absorb and lessen the destructive power of Shye’s attack, allowing Targon to survive the remaining force, though it still bent his shield and sent him flying.
“Argh!” Baradur roared in anguish as the hulking guard captain—vomiting significant volumes of blood— slammed on him, inevitably worsening the pain he was feeling on his severed leg.
Luckily, the titled adventurers and champions were already on the move.
Two shielders—one middle-aged titled adventurer and one veteran champion—stood in front of the agents stacked atop the other, activating their rare-tier chain skill, [Citadel of Order].
A translucent golden brick wall then appeared in front of the two champions, protecting both Targon and Baradur.
Meanwhile, the priests and priestesses promptly got to work, conjuring healing rays of golden light on the wounded warriors.
Thanks to the brief respite provided by the two shielder agents, Saorus, Rai Hou, and the other ranged agents were able to join the fray.
