Chapter 905: The Strongest
“Retreat! Follow me!” a guard captain exclaimed as Esmeralda Gottwald of the Thunder Blade fled from the battle, bleeding heavily from her neck and left waist.
The Yon Augennian Warrior Heroine had barely survived a fiery two-minute all-out battle against Hadean Varsa’s Commander Chaos.
Although she was able to give Chaos a few wounds here and there, the slippery scout-class commander either gracefully dodged or masterfully parried the lethal blows, which only resulted in minor wounds—far from what the heroine suffered.
The remaining WAA agents—two titled adventurers and three champions—attempted to gang up on Chaos, hoping to capitalize on what they perceived as the “harrowing injuries” he had sustained in his fight with Esmeralda.
However, he had suffered no such injuries.
In the end, their decision only hastened the downfall of their army, as there was no one left to contain the squadron captains of the Chaos elites.
The city guards and WAA elite guards who responded to the Hawkin Mansion were forced to retreat, allowing Chaos to advance deeper into the establishment.
Balkan, along with the remaining three hundred Hawkin Guards and two hundred Soul Warriors, was outnumbered and forced to retreat to the Hawkin Group Headquarters.
Initially, the Hawkin Guards knew nothing about the true nature of the Hawkin Group.
However, after undergoing sinister modifications at Dweezel’s behest, they came to understand the true colors of their lord.
It was unfortunately too late for them, though.
Both their minds and bodies had been modified, and although a semblance of humanity remained within Balkan and his men, they were now but mere vestiges of their former selves.
Their eyes seemed hollow compared to a normal human’s.
Soon, the elites of the Chaos Unit arrived at the entrance to the Hawkin Group’s underground headquarters, hidden within the Hawkin Mansion. However, they couldn’t enter easily, as two hundred Soul Warriors stood in a tight-knit formation, blocking the way.
The narrow corridor, which could only accommodate a hundred combatants at a time, further restricted their advance.
For a while, the Chaos elites were once again locked in battle.
It was then that heavy footsteps sounded behind them.
Another army was approaching.
“Commander, I shall take squadrons one to five and deal with the enemy at our rear,” Vice Commander Feather said as he began walking toward the back.
“No need.” Chaos smiled, momentarily confusing the proactive vice commander. “It’s the geezer and his men.”
A flash of understanding dawned on Feather, and the vice commander halted, choosing instead to wait for Tigren’s approaching army.
Sure enough, the old head and six hundred of his elites arrived a few moments later.
“Chaos, I’ve come to assist,” stated Commander Tigren, his aged face as stern as ever.
“Hohoh, you’re fast, old man. You’ve already conquered the city hall and the teleportation formations? Not bad…not bad…” praised Chaos.
The old man, however, merely replied with an unamused snort.

Meanwhile, inside the metallic hallways of the Hawkin Group headquarters, a pale-skinned young man with short black hair and a slim yet toned physique walked in a rather lazy manner.
At the end of the hallway he was walking down stood a massive metallic door.
Apparently, that’s where he was supposed to get the key from a young woman.
Aeryth sat like a lifeless doll in the spacious room Dweezel had just left, and soon, she heard footsteps outside.

Someone was approaching, perhaps the young man Dweezel told her about.
She turned her head and gazed at the metallic door.
There was a strange glint in her eyes as she did so, and the semblance of lifelessness was momentarily gone, only to return the next moment.
But then, the footsteps halted.
Outside the room, Alexander Aphelion gazed coldly at his mana communicator, the sound of gritting teeth emanating from his mouth despite it remaining closed.
He appeared calm on the surface, but a deep annoyance simmered within as he sifted through the flood of messages.
Alexander initially ignored the pleas of his useless comrades.
In the end, however, he had no choice but to respond to them, vanishing the next moment.
An eerie silence settled over the metallic hallways as the normally apathetic young man disappeared.

“Puhaahk!!”
A hulking man spat out a startling amount of blood as he took yet another blow from his slightly less muscular opponent.
“Saorus, is Alexander still not here?!” raged Baradur, his hand covering his mouth, blood staining his fingers.
They knew that Shye Crowley was monstrous, but not to this extent.
Nonetheless, he and Targon somehow managed to hold on for a few minutes, burning through their arsenal of life-saving items.
If not for a total of twenty-three such items and skills, Baradur would have long perished.
His comrades, too, had spent vast resources to preserve their lives and delay Shye long enough for Alexander Aphelion, the strongest among them and the secret leader of the seven Yon Augennian Heroes, to arrive.
Heck, they wouldn’t have survived this long if their enemy hadn’t turned his attention to the weaker agents from time to time, strangely opting to knock them out instead of taking their lives.
Baradur, Saorus, and Targon couldn’t understand the motive behind this, but it was a welcome reprieve.
Unfortunately, all three of them had just run out of life-saving items.
They would have to truly face their monstrous adversary with their lives on the line.
Baradur and Saorus wanted to retreat, but Targon would never, and their guilt would consume them should they leave the guard captain to die.
In the end, the heroes, too, decided to stay.
The Holy Sword hero had just managed to stand up, and yet, the horrifying blades of the twin black greatswords were upon him again, swinging downwards with reckless abandon.
Baradur’s life flashed before him.
He was certain that his life was about to come to an end.
It was then that a ghostly dagger with a red body and jet-black edges emerged from nothingness.
A thin layer of darkness hovered before it, somehow absorbing the horrifying impact of Shye’s blow.
The shadowy man who had appeared out of nowhere angled his dagger to the side, and in the next moment, the blades of the twin greatswords slid downward, striking nothing but the once grassy, now damaged ground.
Alexander Aphelion of the Boundless Shadows has arrived.
