Chapter 910: Lunatic
A gorgeous, jet-black mare sprinted through the chaotic streets of Yon Augenn, its rider a terrorist commander wearing a white dragon half-mask.
Shye and Shirley preferred to summon their familiars only when necessary, as revealing them at the final moment might turn the tides of battle around, but Shye had no choice but to call upon Zeth immediately for mere travel purposes.
He was already seven minutes late for his rendezvous with Chaos and Tigren.
Unfortunately, the damned WAA agents—and their endless life-saving skills—had delayed him.
If Alexander hadn’t suddenly disappeared, things would have gotten even dicier for Hadean Varsa.
Everything seemed to be working against Shye and the old man, as adventurer vigilante groups had somehow anticipated his route.
He was ambushed by a group of two hundred adventurers—each one an adamantite-ranked powerhouse.
A majority of them had greedy looks on their faces.
They wanted the reward for killing him. But unfortunately, although they were stronger than the WAA elite guards, they were way weaker than the champions and titled adventurers Shye just toyed with.
Moreover, Zeth was with him.
The black mare didn’t even have to stop, simply bulldozing through the formation of the warrior-class adventurers in a blazing hurricane of blue flames.
More than fifty overconfident adventurers perished under the duchess’ ruthless tackle.
The archers, mages, and priests among them attempted to ensnare the familiar spirit with large monster net rounds, mana snares, and mana roots, hoping to restrict her movements.
But their efforts were in vain—all of it burned to ashes the moment it made contact with her body.
In the end, Shye and his familiar weren’t even delayed for more than three seconds, galloping off into the distance without a care for the remaining adventurers.
Some scout-class adventurers tried to catch up, but they could only eat Zeth’s dust.
Some erupted into curses, while others cried in horror at the burnt remains of their friends and lovers.
Shye didn’t want to kill if he could help it, but if they insisted on throwing themselves in his way, then their deaths were simply an inevitable price for the future to exist.
He encountered one more vigilante group, though things simply ended up like the first.
In just three minutes, he arrived at the destroyed entrance of the Hawkin Mansion—ten minutes late overall—and still had to catch up to Chaos and the others.
Wasting no time, Shye dismissed Zeth and sprinted toward the entrance of the Hawkin Group Headquarters on his own two feet.
It seemed that Chaos and his men had already wiped out the opponents inside the mansion, so Shye’s journey toward the Hawkin Group Headquarters was rather smooth.
He finally heard the sounds of battle after around two more minutes of nonstop sprinting.
‘Chaos and his men are close…’ He thought, eager to join the battle.
As he turned the metallic corner, he saw his allies locked in battle against thousands of Hawkin Group elites.
At the front of the enemy ranks, three combat-proficient Hawklings clashed against Commander Chaos, Vice Commander Feather, and old Tigren.
They seemed to be winning. Until he joined them, that is.
In the most devastating of entrances, Shye jumped and descended upon the enemies like a cataclysm, killing more than twenty Hawkin Elites with just a single common-tier skill.
To his confusion, the enemies showed not a hint of panic.
The Hawklings even had slight smiles on their faces.

Naturally, Shye found their reactions strange, as his arrival should’ve tipped the scales heavily in Hadean Varsa’s favor.
Shouldn’t they be panicking right now?
It was then that secret compartments opened in the walls of the headquarters, ones that even Shye failed to detect with [Mana Pulse].
Soon after, uproarious laughter echoed within the halls, from none other than one of his comrades: Chaos.
“Hahahaha! Welcome, welcome, Shye Crowley, to the prime battlefield—where yours truly, Chaos, valiantly fights his foes!” the commander laughed. “What took you so long, though? I’ve been tired of pretending!”
Shye narrowed his eyes, watching Chaos warily.
But before he could dwell on it, the clanging of armor rang out behind him, prompting him to turn and glance back.
Soul warriors flooded out of the open secret compartments like eerie puppets.
Their neck and spines bent strangely, and yet, the menacing purple glow of their eyes didn’t even flicker.
It wasn’t just them.
Among them were other Soul Warriors, clad in visibly lower-quality armor and wielding inferior weapons.
They came in all sorts of human varieties—women, teenagers, old men—every type you could imagine.
The only thing similar about them to the Soul Warriors was the purple glow in their eyes.
To make matters worse, there seemed to be tens of thousands of them, quickly sealing off his path of retreat.
It was a trap!
‘Was this why Alexander Aphelion retreated?…’ thought Shye with a frown.
The cunning bastard, after saving his WAA comrades, suddenly retreated with no clear purpose.
This was the only purpose Shye could think of, though, of course, he could be wrong.
It didn’t matter either way, as what mattered was he was now in a sticky situation.
To make matters worse…
“Chaos…you…you’re with Dweezel? Why?” Shye asked with undertones as cold as wintry night.
He could not fathom why Chaos would join Dweezel.
“Hahahaha! There’s no need for you to know. My reason, after all, is quite shallow. Really! Besides, you’ve probably heard it multiple times already…” Chaos responded. “But more importantly… I finally get to test your prowess in combat!”
Shye gritted his teeth and clenched his fists so tightly that his nails dug into his skin.
He then spoke, his voice even colder than before:
“You bastard…” he cursed. “Do you think we’re still playing around? You think lives are a joke, huh?!”
“Hahaha, calm down, calm down… Why not conserve your energy? After all, you’ll be fighting thousands of those things. Ugh! Even I wouldn’t want to, even for the sake of chaos! Or maybe I would? Who knows? Bahahaha!” Chaos laughed madly.
“Lunatic… You lunatic!” cursed an even more furious Commander Tigren.
The old head, along with six hundred of his most trusted brothers in arms, was trapped here with Shye. Unlike the latter, they didn’t fancy their chances of making it out alive—not after the various mechanisms and jamming devices had activated.
Even if Tigren had a way out, he wouldn’t leave his men.
“Hahahaha! Well, thank you for the compliment, old fool. Now then, let the games begin! Will the Hadean Varsa Elites, under the leadership of the invincible Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn, survive? Or will the young man’s undefeated streak finally be broken?! Hahahaha! Stay tuned!—I, for sure, will!”
