Chapter 917: Kings and Bandits
As the chaos across the cities gradually settled, holographic screens flickered to life one after another, heralding the dawn of a new era.
It was similar to what happened when Hadean Varsa successfully hijacked the broadcasting systems of each capital’s Broadcasting Office.
This time, however, the screen did not feature just one figure—it displayed eleven.
The most unlikely of alliances had formed: the WAA Board of Directors standing alongside Hadean Varsa’s leader, Sanada Eiichiro.
The citizens and the low-ranking adventurers, who were dependent on the WAA’s reward system to make a living for themselves and their families, were initially horrified at the sight.
Though the fear gripping their hearts quickly faded as they realized the WAA directors appeared clear-headed—free of coercion or control.
It was clear they were about to announce something either cataclysmic or momentous.
Pressed for time, two individuals on the screen stepped forward—Sanada and Hale, the leaders of two once-opposing factions.
Both old foxes knew how the mind of the mundane folks works, and so, it was the WAA Head Director who spoke first, clearing the doubts in the hearts of the vulnerable.
“My beloved citizens and adventurers, I’m certain many of you are trembling with anxiety right now. But fear not—we, the world’s leaders, remain true to ourselves.” Hale began,
“Sanada, the former Hero of the Howling Void, did not reach out to us with vile intent. After a thorough, face-to-face meeting—and after reviewing undeniable evidence proving his claims—the WAA has come to a grave realization: we were wrong.
Terribly wrong.
And for that, we offer our deepest apologies.
When this is all over, we will hold an impeachment election. If the people deem us unfit, we will step down and allow new leaders to take our place.
However, now is not the time for that. The world remains in grave peril, and time is of the essence.
Regrettably, this is not the moment to prove Sanada’s innocence or recognize his sacrifices, but we assure you that once this storm has passed, we will present all necessary evidence.
For now, I publicly order all my agents to cease hostilities against Hadean Varsa and its allied groups.”
Sanada then stepped forward and added:
“However, be warned—those battling the groups listed here must not stop under any circumstances. Show no mercy to your enemies.
I deeply regret that I had no choice but to ally with truly vile organizations. Sadly, I was left with no other options.
I am but one man, and my power alone has its limits. I will face whatever consequences await me once the storm has passed.
For now, those fighting subordinate organizations not on this list may stand down, as I have ordered my men to cease hostilities. If they refuse to obey, you have full permission to eliminate them. That’s all from me.”
As soon as Sanada stepped back, Hale moved forward once more, this time to issue a call for mercenaries, even at great financial cost.
The world was at stake—when better to dip into the organization’s coin reserves than now?
“High-ranked adventurers, ranked Mithril and above, we, the WAA, urgently call for your assistance.
Those who volunteer to help us defeat the enemy forces will be rewarded with fifty gold coins each for joining the battle against our one true enemy: Dweezel Hawkins, the former Golden Sun Hero.
As we speak, Hadean Varsa’s heroic warriors are being killed inside the Hawkin Group’s underground headquarters. The main entrance is located on the left wing of the first floor of the Hawkin Mansion, but there are other entrances you can use as well.
If you wish to cooperate, please enlist at the WAA Yon Augenn headquarters, where my staff will provide you with the locations of the hidden entrances.
I thank everyone in advance and, once again, I apologize for my past incompetence.”
Soon after the announcement, the holographic screens vanished, leaving those who had been watching overwhelmed by a whirlwind of mixed emotions.

One of them, however, gritted his teeth so hard that the grinding sound echoed through the empty chamber.
Dweezel had just watched everything unfold and was not pleased one bit by the developments.
He was now officially the villain, and if he didn’t want to be remembered as one, he had no choice but to become the king.
He needed to crush the enemy forces with his own hands and rule the world through fear.
For at least a year and a half…
Until his five enormous mana storage crystals were filled—enough to sustain half the world and make everyone dependent on him and his system—while the other half would wither into deadlands—he could not allow anyone to challenge him.
‘It’s a good thing I’ve prepared enough forces for this scenario…’ the old snake thought coldly, his fists clenched. ‘Me against the world? Fine, I shall make them all bow down to their sovereign through brute strength, if that’s what they want.’
Dweezel didn’t want things to come to this—if the capital city was severely damaged and devastated by war, rebuilding would be an incredibly difficult task for him and his new kingdom.
But he had no other options.
There would be no kingdom at all if he didn’t go all-out.
With a cold, determined look on his face, he pulled out his mana communicator and dialed frantically, walking with purpose.
The old snake was preparing to unleash his army of godforsaken horrors.

Meanwhile, in Valenzia City, Ian frowned as he tried to contact Maia. The WAA’s confirmation had been publicly announced, and Detain was to be deactivated swiftly.
Worryingly, the person responsible for activating the device could not be reached.
Maia and his small scout squadron of sixty people was a deadly force.
However, they would not survive an encounter against thousands of elites spearheaded by WAA agents.
While the young scout squadron captain could hold her own against a hero, defeating one was a different matter—especially with multiple agents fighting her at once.
Ian’s heart sank.
The next moment, he gathered five hundred of his squadron’s fastest and most powerful elites, leading them on a relentless search for Maia.
The vice commander silently prayed to the Gods and Goddesses he had long refused to worship, hoping for her safety.
After three long, wasted minutes of sprinting at full throttle, Ian arrived at the area where Detain’s core was located.
The sounds of battle reached his ears, and his heart sank even further.
He swiftly leaped from one roof to another, landing on the ground where the battle raged.
His eyes widened at the sight before him.
