Chapter 923: Father Hawk Protects His Hawklings
Shye had been unsure whether to retreat or not just a few seconds ago.
But now…now he was certain that he didn’t want to, not until he personally took the life of the bastard who pretended to be his friend and played him like he was an idiot.
The next moment, a blood-curdling roar resembling those of ancient demons from the depths of hell echoed across the dimly lit metallic hallways, the purple, eternal soul lanterns flickering in response to the horrifying noise.
An ethereal onyx armor then materialized around his body, significantly enhancing his physical attributes.
Moments later, translucent, rotting jet-black mana wings—reminiscent of a fallen angel—unfurled from his back, spreading in a strange, ghastly yet majestic manner.
Those who saw it for the first time were momentarily awestruck.
However, for Kiin, the sight of the winged, unholy warrior in front of him heralded nothing but his impending death.
Alarm bells quickly rang in his head, and he was forced to promptly use all the self-buff skills he could.
Kiin also swiftly prepared his arsenal of life-saving items and skills. He was certain that he would need it in the next few moments.
His senses quickly proved horrifyingly accurate, as the next instant, the terrifying unholy warrior suddenly disappeared from sight—his instincts screaming, begging for him to use one of his life-saving items, or skills, anything!
Of course, Kiin knew better than to not listen to his own body.
Not that he had a chance to think.
His opponent was simply too fast for even an archer’s trained eyes to see.
Crushing an orange talisman, a physical barrier capable of withstanding a full-force attack from a thousand points of strength, veiled Kiin, protecting him from any attacks of the physical category for the next second.
To his horror, his barrier shattered instantly—too fast for him to even register the sound of Shye’s greatswords striking it
It was supposed to withstand a thousand points of strength… wasn’t it?!
Kiin was rather fortunate that, at the very least, he sensed that the attack came from his left.
He swiftly shifted his body and activated [Swallow Step] off the ceiling walls, propelling himself downward just in time to evade the lethal edges of the twin greatswords.
But not before receiving a minor cut on his left arm. Nonetheless, Kiin barely escaped with his life.
…Temporarily…
The fifteenth bastard son had just landed on the ground, and yet, the similar sense of spine-chilling danger was back, this time from behind.
He quickly activated another talisman of the same kind.
But just like the first one, it was destroyed almost instantly, leaving him scrambling once more to get out of the greatswords’ path using another repositioning skill.
He was safe again.
However, how long can he keep this up?
He had already burned through two of his precious life-preservation items and repositioning skills in a little less than two seconds!
Utterly enraged, Kiin roared at his half-siblings: “When will you useless bastards help me?!”
He wouldn’t have even had the chance to lash out at them if not for the three Soul Warriors, who shielded him from the wrath of his former friend and rival—sacrificing their hollow lives in the process.
Like a cockroach, he managed to survive for a few seconds.
…Meanwhile, somewhere inside the headquarters, a blonde old snake watched everything unfold—his teeth producing grinding sounds.

“How could this bastard have possibly grown this strong without the aid of soul arts?!” Dweezel couldn’t help but rage, smashing his desk with his elderly hands and hurting it slightly in the process.
He had been studying soul arts years before Sanada even decided to dabble in it, and yet, his old rival managed to create the perfect pawn without the unavoidable side effects of the forbidden art.
“How?!”
For the next moment, Dweezel couldn’t help but doubt a majority of what he learned.
He even thought that maybe Shye was just THAT talented.
On second thought, however, he knew such a growth rate was impossible—no matter how talented one was.
Shye was human, just like them, after all.
Sanada must have done something to the young man’s body to capitalize on his [Limitless Physique].
‘No matter…’ the old snake thought. ‘There’s no point dwelling on things I can’t fathom. There are other ways to defeat such a monster—even without killing him…’
Like luring him into a trap and sealing him… or simply waiting for him to tire out, securing victory at the cost of thousands of Soul Warriors.
To him, eliminating Shye was well worth the life of a thousand disposable puppets.
Furthermore, he also had a few other trump cards left.
No need to stress himself out too much.
‘Besides… isn’t this the perfect time to eliminate the head of these damned rebels in my kingdom?’ the old snake pondered with a cold and cunning smile.
The next moment, he disappeared.

*CLANG!*
The sound of metal clashing against metal echoed once more through the dimly lit halls of the Hawkin Group Headquarters.
A bent shield and a young man wearing a golden hawk mask then hurtled through the air, rolling to a stop several meters apart.
In the past, Kiin had relied on this very shield to make it difficult for Shye to take him down.
But now—horrifyingly—it had crumpled after a single strike, rendered completely unusable by just one devastating blow.
He couldn’t fathom how his former friend and rival had grown this powerful in such a short time.
A few months back, Shye was barely able to overwhelm him, so how could he be this inhumanly strong now?
It seemed that Kiin did not have a chance to find out, as the twin greatswords were now descending on him to take his life.
The other Hawklings naturally tried to help, but they couldn’t even follow Shye’s movements.
None of them could.
Even the Soul Warriors—programmed to kill enemies on sight—were at a loss.
One moment, they stood idly. The next, they moved to strike the intruder who had suddenly appeared in their view—only to freeze again after losing sight of their target.
They were glitching.
Just when Kiin had resigned himself to death beneath his former friend’s blade, a frail elder clad in pristine white armor with golden linings suddenly appeared before him—a pale marigold tower shield in one hand and a gleaming shortsword in the other.
His Lord Father—the man he both revered and resented—had appeared to shield him.
