Chapter 926: Allies?
Dark clouds began forming in the sky, heralding either the fall of the one who ruled from the shadows for the past few decades or the world’s descent into ruin.
Beneath the gray heavens, the sounds of battle echoed throughout Yon Augenn City—swords clashing, elemental arrows and spells tearing through the air, lethal limbs smashing against shields, death cries, anguished howls, and the subtle trickle of flowing blood.
All of these filled the city as humans and abominations warred.
The balance was slowly crumbling, however, as one side began to push the other.
Larger, stronger, and more resistant to damage, the abominations and the Soul Warrior Army began pushing back the WAA-Hadean Varsa Coalition Army.
While Ian and those worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence as him were cutting down the twisted horrors like they were harvesting wheat, the same couldn’t be said for those who were a fair bit weaker.
The performances of the titled adventurers and champions began to wane after their initial successes, unable to keep up with the relentless pace of the berserk monstrosities.
The elites, of course, were doing even worse.
Although they weren’t being slaughtered, they were steadily pushed back, and with every severe injury, they were either sidelined temporarily or permanently.
They certainly couldn’t keep fighting with torn limbs and failing hearts like the abominations could.
As a result, not only did the operation to assist Shye Crowley grow bleak, but the reinforcement army itself fell into deepening peril.
“C-Captain Targon! We can’t keep this pace up! We should retreat for now and give the men some breathing room!” requested a WAA guard captain.
Targon slew another abomination, gritting his teeth as he struggled to decide their next move.
Retreat was certainly an option.
Most of the abominations were slow, and they could easily pick off the faster ones once separated from the larger creatures.
They could even employ a hit-and-run tactic to eliminate the weaker, swifter abominations before dealing with the bigger threats.
But could they pull it off?
Most certainly not, as they lacked the coordination needed for such a strategy.
Coming from different organizations, many of them weren’t used to fighting together, and the volunteer adventurers—lacking experience in large-scale battles—would likely be unable to keep up.
Chances are, some of them would be left to die once the Hadean Varsa and WAA elites began retreating.
The Hadean Varsa commanders and captains also had the same train of thought as Targon.
And so, with no other choice, the armies could only continue battling the abominations, forcing themselves to fight even harder.
The stronger combatants—the hidden dragons and crouching tigers—revealed themselves and all the cards they were keeping close to their chests.
They cut down abominations with unmatched ferocity, shocking those nearby who had never realized their true prowess.
Thanks to their sudden ferocious stand, the human lines held strong for a full minute. But after that, the situation continued its downward spiral.
Something had to change, and something already had.
However, due to the fierce battle against the abominations, the Hadean Varsa-WAA Coalition Army failed to notice that the death cries outside the city had changed—from terrifying yet earthly monster roars to underworldly, unholy screeches and howls.
The unnerving, profane cries grew louder, and soon, the army finally took notice.
The abominations outside the city walls were… losing?
What was going on?

How could the monstrous creatures, who paid a steep price against the city guards, have managed to somehow turn the tides against Dweezel’s abominations?
There had been cases of monstrous creatures awakening their bloodlines in the past, but such occurrences were extremely rare.
Furthermore, even if a few of them unlocked their hidden potential, it shouldn’t have made much of an impact—unless a majority of them evolved, which was extremely unlikely, if not outright impossible.
Such questions took hold of a small part of their brains.
Luckily, they didn’t have to guess for long, as, in the next moment, parts of the Yon Augenn City Wall crumbled violently—shattered by what seemed to be powerful, blunt strikes from either the monsters or abominations.
Ten sections, to be exact.
Towering creatures then poured through the breaches, their hulking, muscular silhouettes shifting ominously within the swirling dust of the fallen walls.
One section, in particular, was far more devastated than the others.
The breach here was also the largest by far.
Strangely, the silhouettes of the monstrous creatures looked identical, differing only in size.
Some were far larger than the others.
They also appeared to wield the same weapon—Ironwood clubs.
At the very least, they didn’t seem to be Dweezel’s abominations.
However, the sight of hundreds of such powerful creatures marching into the fray brought no peace to the coalition army—none at all.
In fact, it made their hearts waver and tremble.
If a third party entered the battle now…
Even Targon didn’t want to think about the consequences.
Soon, the mysterious monstrosities emerged from the swirling dust clouds, revealing their mighty forms in full glory.
They were blue-skinned ogres. And there were at least a thousand of them.
The heroes had fought such ogres before—some were even highly knowledgeable about them.
Those few paled upon seeing the lineup at the very front of the approaching monster army.
Ten squadrons of one hundred ogres, their ranks ranging from (A-) to (S-), were led by ten Savage Ogre Generals—one of whom was horrifyingly larger than the rest.
Fourteen Bloodskin Ogres marched behind the ten leaders, seemingly serving as their lieutenants.
The heroes, though not struggling too much against Dweezel’s abominations, already had their hands full.
They had no extra capacity to handle the Savage Ogre Generals and Bloodskin Ogres.
If these monsters breached their lines, hundreds—if not thousands—would perish within seconds, especially since everyone was already exhausted from fighting both each other at the start of the war and now the abominations.
Just as the commanders and captains were contemplating a temporary retreat, a thunderous war cry erupted.
Suddenly, the ogres charged—not at them, but at the abominations.
As it turned out, the ogres were… their allies.
